lol...spastics. Swedes are SO frustrating!
But good on them for giving it a shot. I'm still stunned that ToJo df Robredo!!

Ooh, and I read an article that said pimpim was replaced due to a strained hamstring. Right.... I'd say its a combo of that AND the fact that he's less than ordinary on clay ;)

Björkman Awarded with 2005 ARAG FAIR PLAY TROPHY

Jonas Björkman was awarded with the 2005 ARAG Fair Play Trophy during a ceremony at the Staendehaus in Düsseldorf. The trophy was presented to the veteran Swede by Brazilian star Gustavo Kuerten, who has been practicing at the Rochusclub for Roland Garros, and Dr. Paul-Otto Fassbender, Director with ARAG.
Björkman, age 33, was chosen for his great sportsmanship both on and off the court – known to sometime overrule wrong decisions by umpires.

The veteran doubles specialist is playing in Düsseldorf for the ninth time. He was part of the winning Swedish team in 1995. Björkman became the third Swede after Stefan Edberg (1989, 1995) and Magnus Larsson (1994) to win the prestigious trophy, and said he was delighted to join his two countryman on the list: "I'm very proud of being awarded with the ARAG Fair Play Trophy", the father of a two-year-old son said during the "Night of the Champions." Bjorkman even asked all guests to stand up and sing “Happy Birthday” for Frenchman Michael Llodra who celebrated his 25th birthday on May 18th.

Guests at the Staendehaus included ATP Europe Director, Horst Klosterkemper, as well as all the players and captains from the competing teams at the ARAG ATP World Team Championship.

The French has opened
I lost in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6, 5-7, against Igor Andrejev. He is strong on clay and in good form, he beat Rafael Nadal and then won the whole tournament in Valencia recently, but there still is a few points in our match that is bugging me a little bit. I had 0-30 and 0-40 in his serve in second and third set, and I was 4-2 up in the fourth. But still, I forced him to play his best tennis, and I was close to taking the match to a uncertain fifth set. That is OK.
Max Mirnyi did also lose, which means that we can focuse totally on the doubles (I will also play mixed together with Anastasia Myskina). I´ve been knocked out early in the tournament the last couple of years. This time around, I really want to reach the second week, and hopefully go all the way since this is the only Grand Slam title that I still haven´t won. Max and I are in good form. We will meet Almagro (Spain) and Monaco (Argentina) in the first round.

Awarded in Düsseldorf
I was rewarded with World Team Cups Fair Play Trophy in Düsseldorf yesterday. It is the WTC´s organisation, the players and all present media that each year is putting their vote on the player they think has shown the best sportmanship and professionality, both on and off the court. This is certainly a very flattering award to receive, especially when the other players also are voting. It tells you that you are doing a good job. To have an honest and fair attitude is as important as winning new ranking points to me. Everybody wants to win every match they play, of course, but the way you act on every level through a tournament is equally important. Previous years Stefan Edberg, Pat Rafter, Pete Sampras, and Alex Corretja have received the award, so it is a great crowd to belong to.

2005-05-19
Thomas shines in Düsseldorf
We didn´t manage to go through to the final in World Team Cup in Düsseldorf. We lost against both Spain and Germany with 2-1, so if we beat USA on Friday we will end up third in our group. Thomas Johansson has been the positive factor in Düsseldorf. He has done his best season ever on clay so far this year - he has also won both his matches here in Düsseldorf - and if ge gets a good start in Paris, I think he will do his best French Open ever this year aaw

2005-05-19
50 weeks anniversary
I celebrate my 50th week ranked as the no. 1 doubles player in the world this week. That places me 9th over all since 1983. Todd Woodbridge is superior with his 203 weeks ranked as no. 1, with Anders Järryd on 2nd place with 107 weeks.

2005-05-16
Prestige in World Team Cup
World Team Cup starts in Düsseldorf today. We have Spain, USA, and Germany in our group. I will play against David Ferrer, Spain, today, and Thomas Johansson will play against Tommy Robredo.
Spain are big favourites on the clay, but I think we have a fair chance. With a little luck we can win our group and reach the final.
World Team Cup is a perfect preparation for the French Open. But there is also some prestige involved in the tournament. Chile have won two years in a row, and I am sure that there is more than one nation that feels that enough is enough!

2005-05-16
A fantastic final!
Max Mirnyi and I have won our second title of the year! We beat Michael Llodra and Fabrice Santoro in the doubles final in Hamburg - 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) - in a match that is the most fantastic that I have ever played.
They won in Rome, and this became a match with many long, almost unbelievable duels, in point after point. It was only 7-8 degrees warm, so it was hard to "kill" the points. They served for the match at 5-4 in the second set. We had 3-0 and a double break in the third. Finally, after three hours and very good and entertaining tennis (that got standing ovations...), we could win through aggressive tennis in both tiebreaks.
It felt so good to win this. Max and I won in Miami, but we have lost in the semi finals in the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and Rome. This was the perfect preparation for the French Open in Paris, which is the only Grand Slam that I still haven´t won.

2005-05-10
Close in Rome
I am content with my week in Rome. Clay is, as you know, not quite my cup of tea, but I played two really good singles matches, and I was very close to reaching the final together with Max Mirnyi in the doubles. We lost to Bob and Mike Bryan in the semi final, 3-6, 6-4, 2-6. They took their changes in a few decisive points, while we didn´t. It was close, and I think that we would have had a good chance against Llodra and Santoro in the final, but we will do our best to correct that this week in Hamburg instead!

:haha: at the italic text!!!

I will create another new section on the web site this week. Great crappy victory!
The French Open started with att great crappy victory! Max Mirnyi and I beat Almagro and Monaco with 6-3, 6-4 in the first round yesterday without playing well, which is an excellent sign. We lost our serve immediately and continued to do simple mistakes, but when we could break back and win the first set, we started to play calmer, making fewer mistakes, and finally won thanks to our steadiness.
Today I will play mixed double with Anastasia Myskina against the French couple Monfils and Cornet. He (Monfils) is 18 y.o., she is 15, which means that they are the same age as me - together!
On saturday Max Mirnyi and I will play the second round.

Max Mirnyi and I won the third round of the French Open yesterday against Davydenko and Andreev with 7-6, 6-2 in a very tough match. They served for the first set, but we managed to break back, and then played very good tennis in the second set.

Semi finals X 2 in Paris
I will play two semi finals at the French Open in Paris tomorrow. Not so bad.
Yesterday I first won the quarter final against Arthurs and Hanley together with Max Mirnyi, 6-4, 7-6. It was as tough as it seems. We won with the only break in the first set, and then fought back from 2-4, and then in the tiebreak from 2-5 in the second set. We are very strong under pressure.
Tomorrow we will meet Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu, the Olympic champions, in the semi final. They are even better on clay than on hardcourt as in Athens, so we have to play aggressive tennis and attack at the right moments to win. They hit very hard from the back of the court. But I think we can have an advantage of the fact that we already have beaten Andreev/Davydenko and Almagro/Monaco who plays in a similar way.
In the mixed doubles I won together with Anastasia Myskina against Bhupathi and Raymond, a little bit surprisingly, with 6-4, 6-2. We played really well. The mixed semi final will also be played tomorrow.

Bryans Face Bjorkman/Mirnyi in Final

The Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, will play for their second career Grand Slam title together when they meet Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi in Saturday's Roland Garros doubles title.

This will be the third meeting between the teams this year, with the American twins claiming the first two (Australian Open semifinals and AMS Rome semifinals).

The third-seeded Bryans reached their fourth career Grand Slam final together when the World No. 1 team of Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor had to retire with the Americans leading 6-3 3-2. Nestor had to stop playing because of a left wrist injury.

The Bryans won the 2003 doubles title at Roland Garros.

Bjorkman and Mirnyi got past Olympic champions Nicolas Massu and Fernando Gonzalez of Chile with a 6-3 4-6 6-4.

Bjorkman and Mirnyi claimed the titles at ATP Masters Series events in Miami and Hamburg so far in 2005.

Mirnyi is a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion having won the US Open title in 2000 (with Lleyton Hewitt) and 2002 (with Mahesh Bhupathi). Bjorkman is a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion, but is appearing in the Roland Garros final for just the second time in his career. He reached the 1994 final with countryman Jan Apell.

Hi guys - hope you don't mind me coming here - I have never been over here before, but this is a plea from the heart!!! I've just had an SMS from Peggy (Bjorki), who, as you all know, is a great Jonas Bjorkman fan. Today he is playing in the doubes final of RG and she really wants a video of the match - it isn't being shown in Europe but she thinks it may be shown in the States. She can't get Internet access today, so she asked me to ask if anyone at all could record it for her? Sorry to interrupt your Forum, but I hope someone can help her.

Thanks.

Bjorkman/Mirnyi Win First Grand Slam Together
Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi defeated Bob and Mike Bryan at Roland Garros for their first Grand Slam title together.

The second seeded Bjorkman/Mirnyi duo came through 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in one hour, 32 minutes. The match was stopped for 32 minutes after the second set due to rain.

Less than a year after teaming up on a regular basis, Bjorkman/Mirnyi add the Roland Garros championship to ATP Masters Series shields won in Miami and Hamburg in 2005.

For Bjorkman, it was his eighth Grand Slam title and first at Roland Garros having now completed a career Grand Slam in doubles.

It was the third career Grand Slam crown for Mirnyi, and the first in Paris, having won the US Open title in 2000 (with Lleyton Hewitt) and 2002 (with Mahesh Bhupathi).

The Bryans, who won Roland Garros in 2003, defeated Bjorkman-Mirnyi twice this year in semifinals at the Australian Open AMS Rome.

The third-seeded Bryans reached their fourth career Grand Slam final together when the World No. 1 team of Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor had to retire with the Americans leading 6-3 3-2.

Bjorkman and Mirnyi got past Olympic champions Nicolas Massu and Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-3 4-6 6-4 in the other semifinal.

In the mixed doubles final, sixth-seeded Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes fell to Daniela Hantuchova and Fabrice Santoro 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:

Bjorkman: It's an awesome feeling, to achieve, to win all four Grand Slams was something in the beginning that I never really expected. Then once it got closer, it's more that I've been, you know, pushing harder and harder to try to achieve it.

Honestly, going into the match day, I was a bit nervous. I started off not that good, and managed to regroup and be sharp in the next two sets. That was very nice because I think it meant more than I was trying to sort of get the feeling of for myself. It is an awesome achievement.

Mirnyi: Well, it certainly is good to win. To be honest, I was way more nervous going into the semifinal round. I've been here three times in the semifinal before and haven't been able to come over that hump.

You know, the match, game-wise, I was much, much less of a player in a semifinal. But I guess that's why Jonas is my partner today because he was able to get me through that match and help me in some difficult situations and we make a good team today that we help one another.

Val, constantly... I'm worried that Jonas might think of retirement. But, he is only 33. Max is 2 or 3 so has at least another year off school. I think something like this would be motivating for him. Feel like a king in Queen´s

After a few highly enjoyable days since my victory in Paris, I have now arrived in London to play the Queen´s Club tournament on grass. It is a quick adaption. I have practised three times on grass, and today I will meet Dmitry Tursunov in the first round, a Russian who has been living in USA for a long time. From what I know, he can mix high with low both in his mood and in his game. On Wednesday Max Mirnyi and I will play against Hewitt and Philippoussis in the first round of the doubles. Looks very tough, but both of them have been injured lately, so it is hard to tell how their form is. Everything feels just great right now, and I am really looking forward to throw myself into the grass season.

Excellent so far

To sum things up, almost halfway into the season: Max Mirnyi and I have gone tremendously well together since day one. We won three consecutive titles going into the final in Queen´s, where we were close to win our fourth, losing in two tie-breaks against Bob and Mike Bryan. Out of 9 tournaments this year, we have reached semifinal or more in 8. We have won three titles, including the French Open. We have 29-6 in matches. We are ranked as no. 1. My own score as a doubles player are 36-11, and I am ranked no. 1.
In the singles, I still have some job to do. 4 won games, and 10 lost is not good enough. It is little differences pointwise between the players ranked, say, 70-110. A few really good results will take me higher in the rankings, which I absolutely strive for. If I can reach 85-90 the following weeks, that is OK. I am aiming for a QF in Ordina Open, Holland, this week, and a 3rd round/QF in Wimbledon. I work hard on my singles game right now, and I will only play singles this week, and also in two or three tournaments after Wimbledon. My goal is to end this season around 50-55 in the rankings.

2005-06-13
Focusing on the singles

My coach Gary Muller has been practising with me the last four days, and he will stay this week, and also during Winbledon, in order to help me find the right intensity and quality in my singles game. I am hopeful, it feels like my top form is close, and then I just have to get it all out in my matches.
I have to say that I am disappointed about not getting a wild card in Nottingham this week. Ordina Open in Holland is a great tournament, competitive with Nottingham in every way, but I have won twice in Nottingham, been loyal and an "ambassador" for many years, so I think it would have been a proper gesture from their part to appreciate my contributions with a wild card, now that needed it.
Instead, I will play in ordina Open in Holland this week. Andrei Pavel in the first round - tough. But it´s just to get in there and fight!

2005-06-13
So close to four straight

Our fourth consecutive title was millimeters away, but Max Mirnyi and I lost 7-6 (9), 7-6 (4) in the Queen´s final against Bob and Mike Bryan on Sunday. It was extremely close, both teams served really well, eather side could have won. Max and I showed that our form still is very good, and that it takes a lot to beat us. We have won three of our four finals this year, and everything looks promising with Wimbledon coming up soon.

Green, green grass of mine

I have found my form on grass. I took Mario Ancic to three sets in the Ordina Open in Hertogenbosch last week, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6. It was his toughest match in the tournament, which he went on to win. He reached the semi final last year in Wimbledon, and he is mentioned with the greatest respect this year as well.
Max Mirnyi is also in good form, reaching the final in Nottingham. Looks promising for our upcoming doubles matches. I don´t mind winning the title for the fourth year in a row...
I am up against Jeff Morrison, USA, in Wimbledon´s first round. He is good on the fast grass, and I have to return very well to beat him.

2005-06-21
Wimbledon - second round

I am through to the second round in Wimbledon, beating Jeff Morrison on Monday with 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2. Opened up with a 5-0 lead in the first set, and broke Morrisons serve early in the second set as well. Then both Morrison and I seemed to think that this was a done deal. He relaxed, I wasn´t aggressive enough. In the fifth set I found my game again.
I will meet Nikolaj Davydenko in the second round on Wednesday. That is a real test. He is good on all surfaces, and the player who has improved most on the tour the past year. He is 3rd on the race, ahead of Marat Safin and Andy Roddick. Davydenko won in three straight sets over Scott Draper in the first round, which is good, because with that kind of relaxing start, he might not be ready for the challenge he will face on Wednesday...

Didn't really know where else to put this. Seems crazy to me that some 2nd rounds are played, and some 1st round matches still aren't.
*****************wimbledon.org******************** *
Defending Wimbledon Doubles Champion Todd Woodbridge was almost inconsolable after being defeated in the Men's Doubles by qualifiers this evening.

The Australian No.6 seed, with partner Mahesh Bhupathi, crashed out in straight sets to fellow countryman Stephen Huss and South Africa's Wesley Moodie 3-6, 6-7 (3-7), 3-6.

After the match Woodbridge, who is the most successful doubles player in the Open era history with 82 career titles to his name, buried his head in his towel whilst being comforted by his partner.

For the past three years the Australian has won the Men's Doubles event with Jonas Bjorkman. He also took the title with the Swede in 2000 and between 1993 and 1997 basked in Championship glory with Australian Mark Woodforde.

But while the crushing defeat is sure to hurt Woodbridge, Huss and Moodie will be celebrating. The pair fought through the qualifying event at Roehampton to secure a place in the Main Draw. Once there, they overcame Cyril Saulnier and Tom Vanhouat in a convincing four set win.

The men are only occasional partners but the doubles combination seems to be working. They won an event in Noumea earlier this year. Now, having knocked out the No.6 seeds, it is perhaps only a matter of time before they become permanent partners on the tour.

GLAD MIDSOMMAR - I´LL BE BACK AFTER THE WEEKEND!

:haha: :haha:

2005-06-23
Odd victory

I am through to the third round of Wimbledon. In a odd way. Nikolaj Davydenko had to give up because of injury at 2-1 in the second set, having won the first with 7-6. The important thing, though, was that I played really well up to that. I was much closer to breaking his serve than he was to breake mine. I am starting to find my way back to the capacity I have within me more and more. Feels great!

Midsummer is a nice fest in Sweden which is today and tomorrow. This weekend is the one where it is light outside very long and the Swedes celebrate this with many partys and lots of alcohol
They put up a tree and dance around it, very funny indeed :)
This is also where "små grodorna", the dance Pim Pim was doing in Melbourne, is from.

Peggy heres my Jonas story i was talking to you about: On 9th June at Queens!

I called Jonas over and said ‘did you get that plaque that Kristen gave you in Australia?’. He paused and thought about it and I said ‘the plaque with a message on from your fans?’ then he said ‘yes I did’ and smiled. I asked him if he liked it and he said ‘yes’… ‘was it from you’ and I said ‘no, well it was from all of your fans’ and he smiled.

Then I asked him to sign my ball and I said ‘I post in your guestbook on your website’ and he said ‘oh really, then I would know you’ I said ‘yes…Thomas is doing ok’ and he said ‘is he winning?’ so I said ‘Its 1-1 in sets and I think he’s leading in the 3rd set.’ Jonas said ‘oh ok’.

Then I said ‘do you remember on Tuesday after you lost I said to you ‘well done in France?’ and then he said ‘ah yes I was in there yesterday looking at it’ I got confused and smiled and said ‘oh right’ as he smiled at me! I said, ‘it was good that you won in France, I was so happy for you’. He said ‘yeah I played good there but I didn’t practice enough here on the grass’. I said ‘it doesn’t matter because you’ll win Wimbledon’. He smiled and said ‘it would be nice’. Then I said ‘I hope you do because I have tickets for the final. He said ‘For the Saturday?’ and I said ‘yes’ and he said ‘ok I will try to get there’ I laughed and said ‘thanks’ and Lou my friend said ‘Good Luck’.

I forgot to get a picture with him so I walked to where he was signing autographs and said ‘Jonas can I be a pain’ and he said ‘pardon me’ so I said ‘oh can I have a picture with you as its my birthday?’ and he said ‘sure, congrats’ and I had a pic with him, he put his hand on my shoulder aww and I said ‘thanks very much’ and we parted!

Bjorkman and Mirnyi Stand Firm
Thursday, June 30, 2005

The top-seeded pairing of Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi progressed to the semi-finals of the men's doubles today with a straight sets win over Rainer Schuettler and Alexander Waske, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

In the first set, the No.1 seeds looked as though they were in for a tough fight, with the unseeded German duo of Schuettler and Waske managing to hold their service games until the 14th game of the opening set.

The 160th ranked Waske was particularly eye-catching. He made a statement of intent with two aces in his first service game and proceeded to more than hold his own, not only against the big-serving Mirnyi, but also Bjorkman - winner of the men's doubles at Wimbledon for the past three years with Todd Woodbridge.

However, the top seeds managed to make the crucial break with the match poised at 6-5 in the first set courtesy of a superb cross-court forehand by Bjorkman. Once the Swede and his Belarussian partner sealed the opening set, they took firm control of the match.

The second game of the second set was the one that drew the most applause. With Waske serving, Bjorkman hit a forehand to the back corner. Then Mirnyi lobbed exactly to the same spot. At the break point, Mirnyi dived to return a drop shot successfully, and Waske hurled his racket into ground in disgust after volleying his reply wide.

From then on, the experience of the top seeds told. Waske and Schuettler voiced their frustration many times as they were unable to stage a fightback in the second set. It was small consolation that Schuettler managed that rarity - a return winner to Mirnyi's first serve.

The third set was a formality as Bjorkman and Mirnyi broke their opponents serve immediately and raced through the set to take it 6-2. They will face Stephen Huss and Wesley Moodie, who beat third seeds Mark Knowles and Michael Llodra, in the quarter-finals.

Semi in Wimbledon

Max Mirnyi and I beat Schuettler and Waske in Wimbledon´s quarter final, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. We got an early break in the second set, and then we never let go.
We will meat Wesley Moodie and Stephen Huss in the semi. They are the big sensation this year, beating both Bhupathi-Woodbridge and Knowles-Llodra. We have to play our best tennis to beat them, for sure.
Bob and Mike Bryan play against Black and Ullyett in the other semi, which means that the first, second and third couple in the rankings all goes into the semis. That promises great, competitive tennis.
It would be truly great if both Thomas Johansson (in the semis in the singles against Andy Roddick) and I would make it to the final. We will give everything we have. Thomas has lost to Roddick two times, and never won, but I think he can do it this time. His returns are one of the key factors.

such a shame they both couldnt make their finals :sobbing:

2005-07-02
Stopped in semi

So close, but not all the way. We lost our doubles semi today - 6-2, 2-6, 4-6, 6-7 - against Huss and Moodie. We got a perfect start which made them insecure, but then we made a really bad service game immediately in the second set, which changed things. From then on, it was close. They took advantage of their three break points, took risks, gambled, stood up, were tough. And they didn´t fold at the end which I thought they might do. All credit to them. We didn´t play bad at all, but this time it just wasn´t our turn. Still, we are always up there, always fighting for a shot at the titles, and we have gone all the way several times already this year. Now, we are looking forward to the US Open. I think that the hardcourt (and clay) suits us better than grass.
Nice to come back home, too. Båstad is always great. A bit abrupt to threw yourself from grass to clay, but the atmosphere and the people and old friends.... it will be good.

2005-07-02
Sharp focus on my singles game

After Båstad I will take four days off. Then I will try hard to improve my singles ranking. I will only play singles in Indianapolis and Los Angeles, maybe both singles and doubles in Washington. My singles game have the highest priority right now.
