Had an horrendous dream about Jonas last night. I don't know what the hell he was doing in my dream, or why he did what he did... but one second we were discussing Andreas Vinciguerra's return to tennis, and the next thing I knew, I was standing under a tree, had this huge gash on my leg, just behind my knee, omg it hurt... and Jonas was there again pulling all these weird things out of my leg. I had a crobar (sp?) amongst other things. So disgusting, it hurt so much  I was screaming at him to stop, and he did. Ahh why can't I have a more normal dream

I think this one had meaning to it though :yeah:

Soon and very soon...

A new final - and a new narrow loss... I play well, but I don´t seem to have that last little bit of luck at the moment. Me and Mahesh Bhupathi had our chances to break and possibly win on Sunday, but Davydenko and Andreev won (in Moscow) with 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. They were inspired on their home turf, and Davydenko also won the singles, where I lost to Youzhny in the last 16, and he went on to the Semis, where he lost to Davydenko in a very close and thrilling game...
This week I am playng the Masters in Madrid.

Weird incidents

The last couple of weeks has had its strange moments. I lost all my luggage on the plane to Moscow and had to phone around like crazy to find shoes, shorts, shirt... something to play in. In Madrid, I came in late, but had to play almost directly anyway on the high altitude, lost early in a match that had to be postponed due to rain - indoors! - and then spent a whole day at the airport since my plane had to turn back because of engine problems. 10.30 pm I finally arrived in Stockholm - but my luggage didn´t... So, how exciting life on the road ever might be, it feels quite good to be back in Stockholm and focus on Stockholm Open in time, peace and quiet!

Sorry to hear that Jonas had problems with his luggage. It's funny when he said "peace & quiet". It seems that many Swedes had problemes in Madrid this week. Enqvist didn't have a practrice court because MR JCF decided to practrice there, the hotel rooms cost 40€ more that the public price. And, Johansson said that Stockholm should be a Masters Serie instead of Madrid.

Well, I think all the Swedes will be happy to be back in Stockholm, a peaceful and lovely city !!! Anyway, good luck to the Swedes in their tournament. Sad that Magnus is not playing there.

Up against Arthurs
I will play against Wayne Arthurs in the first round of Stockholm Open today. In total, I have 3-2 up on him, but I lost in our last match in Indian Wells. Ha has an incredible first serve - he ought to give his opponents a bullet proof west before each game! - so I might not touch the ball in some games, but I have to be really alert when I get my few chances. If I beat Arthurs I will propably meet Andre Agassin in the next round. Tough, but I great challenge and a good match for the audience at my home gorund.

No chance for Jonas, but 1 win 1 loss is o.k. against these opponents. I think he will for sure play the qualies, cause he is not playing doubles in Stockholm, so some time.

There is an outside chance to get into the main draw, if 2-3 players still drop out in Paris.

well to be honest i didn't think jonas was going to beat agassi so this isn't surprising. he put up a good fight. he might not have to qualify for Paris because its the last TMS and many players withdraw.

Hello all!

Hope you didn´t miss Thomas Johansson against Agassi in the Stockholm Open final? Great to see how Thomas has been able to come back after his injuries. It looks good for all of us Swedes. If Pim-Pim, Robin and Thomas Johansson keeps their form (and Enqvist and I shape up a little bit...), I think we will be very tough to beat in the next round of Davis Cup.
I´ve been succesful in the doubles lately, but that has also meant that I´ve arrived late to the next tournament and not been able to get used to the new conditions in time.
And it didn´t get any easier to focus with those new "ball boys" in Madrid...

Talk to you soon!

Semi in Paris today

Todd Woodbridge and I are playing the semi final in Paris today against the young French pair Benneteau and Mahut, who has been very succesful lately. They have beaten the Bryan brothers a couple of times, for example. We will face Black-Ullyett or Bhupathi-Mirnyi in the final on Sunday if we win today.

2004-11-08
Finally in Paris

That felt good! Todd Woodbridge and I won our first victory indoors in Paris yesterday, when we beat Black and Ullyett in the final with 6-3, 6-4. It was a great feeling, because we strive to win as many different Grand Slams and Master Series tournaments as possible, and with this one, we have one less to hunt down... I have played ten doubles finals this year, and won four (Sydney, Wimbledon, Båstad, Paris). That´s not really good enough, but since Todd and I won the most important one of them all - Wimbledon, third consecutive year - I have to be satisfied after all. I´m going to Houston and the play offs with Todd on Wednesday.

No problems in Houston
Houston, we have no problems whatsoever! It feels very good right now. Todd Woodbridge and I have just won our second match in the "Group of Death" in the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, defeating the Bryan brothers with 6-3, 6-4. In our first match we beat Bhupathi and Mirnyi 6-3, 6-2. This means that we already are through to the semi final. We have been playing almost perfectly, couldn´t have asked for a better start, and it would be great if we could end the year with a win here in Houston.

We won our third and last match in our group in Houston against Etlis and Rodriguez, 2-6, 7-6, 7-6. We didn´t play as well as we have done earlier this week, but it was difficult on lane 1. For instance, we had to play without any light! Well, we are through to the semis on Thursday or Friday.

I can't believe Jonas and Todd aren't going to be playing together any more! They have won five slams together and have been a great team and I am really sorry that this is happening. I wonder if this split might be a sign that Todd is planning to retire sometime next year? I remember he said he wanted to spend more time with his family and that meant he wouldn't keep on playing for years and years, and as he now has the overall doubles record, plus the Wimbledon doubles record, maybe he is running out of motivation to keep playing after having achieved these ambitions. But I hope he keeps playing into 2005, at least for a while, maybe bowing out at Wimbledon as he said that would be his ideal place to stop when he did eventually retire. And of course I hope Jonas continues to have success in future too. :) He won two slams even before he started playing with Todd, so I'm sure he can carry on doing well in future; Max Mirnyi has won doubles slams too so I think he and Jonas could work well together. :)

(I posted this in the yahoo group (http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/jonasbjorkmanandswedes) already)
This article is from The age, an Australian newspaper, so there's a lot of bias towards Todd. Never mind the fact that Todd spent a large amount of time with his family this year, leaving Jonas to fend for himself>>>>>

Position vacant: Todd Woodbridge's doubles partner. Must be able to serve big, rush the net and know how to lift a trophy.

The king of the two-man game has been left high and dry less than two months before the Australian Open by the totally unexpected decision of Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman to terminate their partnership.

Woodbridge and Bjorkman were beaten 6-4 6-2 by Zimbabweans Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett in the semi-finals of the ATP Masters Cup a fortnight ago, a match that ended up being their last together.

Despite his nine Wimbledon victories, more doubles titles than anyone in the Open era and Davis Cup records galore, Woodbridge has nobody to play with.

His phone will be ringing off the hook, you'd imagine.

A disappointed and slightly perplexed Woodbridge confirmed Bjorkman's move in a television interview on the weekend.

Bjorkman is expected to partner either Leander Paes or Mahesh Bhupathi in his first outing of 2005, the Chennai Open in India in early January.

Woodbridge will kick-start his season with an appearance at the Sydney International at Homebush Bay, where he finished his long and prosperous union with Mark Woodforde at the 2000 Olympics, but the question is ... with who?

Davis Cup team-mate Wayne Arthurs looms as an obvious candidate.

Woodbridge and Bjorkman won Wimbledon last year but lost 6-1 6-1 to Bob and Mike Bryan in the semi-finals of the Australian Open; 6-2 6-4 to Xavier Malisse and Olivier Rochus in the fourth round of the French Open; and 2-6 7-5 6-4 to Paes and David Rikl in the last 16 of the US Open.

A very good year, for any Wimbledon triumph is to be savoured, but nothing miraculous for Woodbridge given his 82 career titles.

The 33-year-old won 11 grand slam events with Woodforde, only one less than the legendary combination of John Newcombe and Tony Roche, plus the 1996 Olympics. He won five majors in four years with Bjorkman, including the last three Wimbledons.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/Breaking-News/Woodbridge-loses-his-doubles-partner/2004/11/28/1101577336594.html?oneclick=true

Thankyou, Aussie media. For destroying any hope I had of even slightly liking an Australian player

One more  At least this one has quoted Todd! (seven.com.au)

Todd Woodbridge may have found new partner Mahesh Bhupathi on the rebound but he believes they are capable of winning his 10th Wimbledon doubles crown next year.

The doubles supremo admits he was stunned and disappointed to be dumped by Jonas Bjorkman after collecting five Grand Slam titles during their four-year association.

"It was a huge disappointment finding out that Jonas does not want to play with me anymore," Woodbridge told AAP.

"I got to Paris this month (for the Masters event) and as is often the case I was the last to find out, that was a touch embarrassing.

"It was out of the blue and I think everyone on the circuit has basically said to me that he was nuts.

"We won five Grand Slams and finished no worse than No.3 (in the world) in four years."

Former World No.1 doubles player Bhupathi, a winner of four Grand Slam titles and 36 doubles titles overall, was also recently axed from his partnership with Max Mirnyi.

"That is the funny thing, Jonas and Max are together now and they dumped the two of us, we are on the rebound," Woodbridge said.

"But I am sure it will put a little bit of fire in my belly and it may be a good bit of motivation to show what I can do, it is a good challenge and I am not going to back away from it."

The New South Welshman, the most successful doubles player in history, thought Bjorkman had looked to Mirnyi because the Belarussian would play more regularly on the ATP tour.

Woodbridge and Bjorkman's last match was a straight sets semi-final loss to Zimbabwean pair Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett at the Masters Cup in Houston this month.

"He wanted me to play for more weeks of the year and I could not do that because of my family," said the winner of 16 Grand Slam doubles titles and 82 overall.

Bhupathi will be Woodbridge's third doubles partner following his successful ten-year partnership with compatriot Mark Woodforde (11 Grand Slam titles) and four-year association with Swede Bjorkman.

Melbourne-based Woodbridge, 33, said the beauty of his new combination was that both would play in their preferred positions with the Sydney-born Woodbridge taking the forehand and Bhupathi the backhand court.

"If we get into the big matches, he has already been there and done that and he is not going to be intimidated by the situation," he said.

The only problem I see with this, is the way Todd found out...
but of course, I guess he would have had to have a look around for a potential new partner, before he told todd. I guess that's how rumours started! I don't blame Jonas. It'd be nice if they could see it from his point of view, I mean, Todd wants to be a family man, and Jonas can manage to do both, since he's based in Europe. Todd would hold JB back a little if he *only* played with him. He's not getting any younger :scared:

Björkman dumpar Woodbridge
29. november 2004 11:41

The quotes are only from Todd and he says the same (that he is very disappointed that he is the last person who got to know this and that this thing motivates him a lot cos he wants to show what he can) like in the

But I hope Jonas will also say something to this subject soon. I really want to hear his comments on this

Former Heineken Open champion Jonas Bjorkman is right on the cut off for the 23 direct entries with a ranking of 70.

From JonasBjorkman.com December 6th.

It is decided.
After four fantastic years, Todd Woodbridge and I will not play together next year. Instead I will pair up with Max Mirnyi.
There is no drama behind the decision. Todd and I go very well together, both on and off the court, and we will remain the best of friends.
We have had fun, and we have had success. Five Grand Slams and 15 other titles. We have been ranked number one in the world both as a team and individually. We made each other better players.

Since Todd moved back to Australia in 2003 with his family, it has been more difficult for him to travel and play as many tournaments as we need to play if we want to be number one again. We played ten tournaments less than our competitors this year, but still managed to end up third in the rankings. For next year, I felt that I needed to play more and really try to be number one again, but that would have been impossible for Todd.

This can also be a kick for us both. Todd thought of quitting after this season, but now he will go on together with Mahesh Bhupathi.
I think that Max Mirnyi and I will go very well together. He has a huge serve, and he is very athletic, and he dislikes losing as much as I do... I think it will be tough mentally to go up against us.

Vaccation in South Africa
We went to South Africa for vaccation at the end of November. The weather wasn´t the best, but it is so beautiful and grand with a breathtaking landscape. At first we stayed in Pezula, a magnificent resort a few hours northeast of Cape Town, right on the coast, and then we went on a safari. A lot of animals, indeed. We chased scorpions and gigantic spiders out of our lodge, and saw lions just a few meters from our jeep. It is a stunning experience. Max was super thrilled to see animals he just have seen on tv before.

Exhibition games in Malmö
Last week I played exhibition tennis in Malmö in the south of Sweden together with Mats Wilander, Thomas Enqvist, Magnus Gustafsson, Magnus Larsson, and Michael Ryderstedt. If you look at it professionally, it was... a minor disaster... I lost 1-6 to Gustafsson... but it is fun just to joke around on the court once in a while.

Christmas in Stockholm
Last year we celebrated christmas in South Africa together with our parents and children. This year we will all meet up in Stockholm for a traditional Swedish holiday, just as easy and quiet as possible.

Start up in Chennai
My schedule for 2005 is starting to unfold. It looks like I am leaving home December 29 or 30, and then I will play in Chennai in India, Auckland in New Zealand, Australian Open in Melbourne and Milan indoors.

A gift for Jonas
Hi guys! After a couple of days, I will make this into a poll... but first, I need your help on something. I've discussed with a few of you, the possibility of making a plaque (trophy thing) for Jonas, in recognition of his efforts in tennis / rapport with fans. The problem is, I can't decide, or think of, appropriate words, to have engraved on the plaque. These are what I've been thinking about tonight:

1. A true sportsman
Thankyou Jonas, for your dedication to tennis and your fans

2. Jonas Bjorkman
"Giving the fans something to cheer about"

3. Jonas Björkman
"Giving us something to cheer about"
-from the fans-

I'm thinking of adding words like 'sportsman, entertainer, friend, dedication, and attitude.A few weeks ago, FrogBurger posted this in the 'qualities about your favourites' thread, and this is what I've been using to try to come up with something:
JB is a true sportsman. His dedication to training, good attitude off and on the court, and his never say quit attitude has made him one of the greatest assets Professional tennis has to offer, and also made him very dear to fans young and old alike. In addition, we fans greatly appreciate the time and energies that JB has devoted to his fans.

Fans love JB and we like to express our appreciation, so Thank you very much JB for taking the time and talking with us, for signing autographs and for taking a few pictures with us now and then.
and, by Star: A true sportsman who conducts himself with honor on the court and with generosity and humor off the court.

Please help me out with a short sentence or two if you can!
Thanks a lot!

- JB is a player who transfers joy and fun both on and off court.
- You can see that he really likes his job and he is very social (like engaging in wheelchair tennis).
- He shows big respect for his fans and shows how important they are for him when, for example, he invites them to DC matches to make a good audience.

Don´t know if you can use anything from above, but these were just some more things which came to my mind while thinking about Jonas.

Jonas Björkman ska spela i katastrofområdet

Tennisåret 2005 inleds nästa vecka i indiska Chennai.
En hårt katastrofdrabbad stad med tusentals dödsoffer.
Dit åker i morgon tennisstjärnan Jonas Björkman, 32,

This article is about that Jonas will play in India next week. He says he would like to cancel the tournament because of everything that has happened there, but he can´t withdraw without any medical attest.
It is also said that Jonas himself know people who are effected by this big tragedy. Detailed translation will follow this eve, cos I am at work right now.

How I build up
I have been training for the upcoming 2005 season since December 11.
We have been sick in the family, and I have had problems with a foot
and not been able to run 100 percent, but I still feel in good shape
physically. I have changed my build-up from last year a little bit,
focusing more on building speed than muscles. During the second part
of the 2004 season, I felt that I lost in speed, became one step to
slow, got forced back and couldn´t reach the net as often as I wish.
That will all be changed 2005!

Schedule for 2005
My playing schedule for the first three months of 2005 is now

An act of sympathy

We have all witnessed unimaginable scenes from South Asia the last few days. The horrific tragedy that have followed the earthquake at sea last sunday is impossible to fully comprahend or put in words. But it is possible to act.
Everybody who can should do whatever they can to support the victims of the tragedy. Help will be needed for a long time to come.
As tennis players, we can support India and the surrounding area in the way that we play the tournament in Chennai as planned. And more so. The tournament in Chennai and ATP have decided to raise money for the victims of the catastrophy, and so have the players. Mahesh Bhupathi and I, who plays the doubles together in Chennai, will donate prize money, and I am right now trying to reach the other players in Chennai to follow our example in a way that they feel is appropriate. As soon as we all come together in Chennai we will decide how to move forward. This is an act of deeply felt sympathy, and it is the least we can do.

Total support in India

Once here in India, everything has worked out the way I hoped and thought: the world of tennis acts together to support the victims of the tsunami disaster in South East Asia. Everyone who plays in Chennai this week will donate their prize money for this cause. I will be back next week with a summary of our work, on every level.

Jonas Bjorkman Statement on Tsunami Relief Effort

We have all witnessed unimaginable scenes from South Asia the last few days. The horrific tragedy that has followed the earthquake at sea last Sunday is impossible to fully comprehend or put into words. But it is possible to act. Everybody who can should do whatever they can to support the victims of the tragedy. Help will be needed for a long time to come.

As tennis players, we can support India and the surrounding area in the way that we play the tournament in Chennai as planned. And more so. The tournament in Chennai and ATP have decided to raise money for the victims of the catastrophe, and so have the players. Mahesh Bhupathi and I, who will play the doubles together in Chennai, will donate prize money, and I am right now trying to reach the other players in Chennai to follow our example in a way that they feel is appropriate. As soon as we all come together in Chennai, we will decide how to move forward.

This is an act of deeply felt sympathy, and it is the least we can do

Important result in Chennai
It was a bit annoying to lose the doubles final in Chennai. We had a matchpoint at 6-5 in the decisive set, but lost in tiebreak. I have 8 finals in my last 11 tournaments, but have only won three of them. We have to do something about that!
Still, the most important result in Chennai was the way that the tennis community supported the victims of the tsunami disaster. We rallied approx 120 000 dollar, and now the tournaments in Australia and New Zealand - about 10 altogether - will follow that example. The money will be donated to UNICEF.

Tough draw in Melbourne
Australian Open will be interesting. It is my first tournament with Max Mirnyi as a regular partner. In the first round of the singles I will face Greg Rusedski, and then Andy Roddick if I win. That´s a tough draw, but I have a statistic advantage against Rusedski.
I´ve had a few disturbing injuries going into this season. Problems with a foot in December, with a strained back in Chennai, and then I managed to catch a "flight bug" on my way to Australia, which kept me, like, out off bounds for four days. Therefor it was good that I lost in Auckland, so that I´ve got a few more days in Melbourne to recover and find my form again. I´ve been feeling a little bit better each day.

Nice pick.... on the bright side of his loss (if there is one) that match was possibly the best match of the week so far. Apart from that third set, it was really closely fought, and they both played fantastic serve and volley games. Feelin hot, hot, hot!
Time to believe in miracles... Despite that I´ve had a fever since Saturday, I won with Max Mirnyi against Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry today, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5). It was close, but a great result, keeping in mind that I wasn´t sure if I should be able to play at all. Strangely enough I hit the ball incredibly well, and when Max ran for us both, we pulled it off. I will stay in bed all day tomorrow too (as I have since Saturday), because I have to be one hundred percent in the quarter final on Wednesday against Michael Llodra and Fabrice Santoro. They are good, really good.

Jonas chatted with his fans on Aftonbladet.se

Here are the questions and his answers:

DC-vinsten i Göteborg över USA?

Semi final - no sick joke!

Fantastic! Max Mirnyi and I are somehow through to the semi final after beating Llodra and Santoro today, 7-6, 7-5. We where under pressure up to 5-5 in both sets, but then played our best tennis when we needed it most. A strong performance. They have three consecutive finals in the Australian Open, and won the tournament both 2003 and 2004.
I am still sick, in a cold. Have just been resting in bed between matches for five days now. I can´t stretch or get any massage after my matches, because my fever could blossom again, so my body is pretty sore...! I had to take a pain relieving pill in the sixth game today.
Max Mirnyi has been outstanding. He has always a positive attitude and he is working incredibly hard to make it easier for me. I have played quite well, strangely enough. Because I am feeling the way I do, I have no expectations on myself, so I have relaxed completely - and found my game.
We will play already tomorrow again against Mike and Bob Bryan in the semi final. Very tough match. I heard that it might rain tomorrow. No objections here...! A day of rest sounds like an excellent idea!

Here are the main parts of the translation... For Peggy and all other Jonas fans ;)

Do you think it is nicer to play doubles than singles?
J.B.: What should I answer? It is a lot of fun playing both. I think generally I am more a team player, but it is also great to be alone on the court and to finish a match. When you are alone on the court, this is a fantastic feeling, almost like at a soccer match.

Is it a problem for you with the heat in Australia?
J.B.: Yes, today it was for example more than 35 degrees, so this is a big problem and it is difficult to play.

Who do you think will be the next Swedish No. 1?
J.B.: Everyone says it will be Pim Pim and I also think so. The only problem I see is that Pim Pim came up at the same time like Roger Federer and right now I don´t see anyone who can stop Roger. He plays in another league and even Agassi was looking like a junior against him.

Why did you stop playing doubles together with Todd Woodbridge?
J.B.: He did not want to play as many tournaments as I wanted to, last year we played only 13 tournaments. He lives in Australia and it is difficult for him to go to all tournaments. And if you don´t play that often, your game won´t be at the same level anymore. Unfortunately it is like this, so it was a natural seperation for both of us.

How does it work with Max Mirnyi?
J.B.: It has worked very fine. This is the 4th tournament we play together and we get to know eachother better and better. We have decided to play together in 2005 and then we will see.

Jonas, what will you do the day you stop playing tennis?
J.B.: That´s a good question. There are many things I could imagine to do. I am very interested in mental training, so this could be something. It could also be interesting to work with Swedish tennis talents and to see how they develope. When will I stop playing tennis?
I have said to play at least until 2006, then we will see...

Jonas looked so sick in the Llodra/Santoro match. At one point (when he was in front of me), I thought he was coughing something up into his towel (I'm sure he wasn't, it just looked that way), and he was sort of resting on the linesperson's chair, one foot up on it while he had his head in his hands. As a Jonas fan, you can imagine how scary it was to see that sort of body language! He's been having a lot of difficulty with serves this week, hopefully it's just due to illness, but he managed to hold serve quite well through the Aus Open (again - thankyou Max!).

The Llodra/Santoro match was my final Jonas match for the year (HOPEFULLY he'll be back next year ;)). I wasn't going to go, the weather was around 37 degrees that day, but I thought about it, and I didn't want to miss Jonas if I had a chance to see him!

Out in semi

Bob and Mike Bryan played almost perfect tennis and beat me and Max Mirnyi in the semi final of the Australian Open today, 6-1, 6-3. They served very well and took advantage of the fact that I have been sick for almost a week in a smart way. They put a lot of pressure on me with a fast game, and I simply hadn´t the strength to respond. I will go back home and rest for a few days now, and then on to Milan next week. Hopefully I get a late entrance in the tournament so that I get enough time to get well.
