They cut the coverage. And if it goes to 5th set, you may be able to watch it on CBS on east coast.

I know me too. I don't understand why they have to show Law & Order (re-runs prob.) when they paid to show the US Open!

jbone_14
09-06-2005, 03:04 AM
To see some damn Law and Order which comes on 30 channels everyday, every hour. This is crazy. I was getting ready to see some good 3rd and 4th set action and then they just cut off.

They said their coverage window had run out and so they went off the air to show Law & Order reruns. It sucks. I was enjoying that match too.

I am too pissed.. I switched to cbs they showing the news.. usa not showing tennis and the match is in the start of the 3rd set.. I'm sure if this was roddick they wouldn't end coverage..

whats going on, its not like this was an extra match to show, this was one of the featured matches.

09-06-2005, 03:07 AM
I really don't know what just happened. They have extended their coverage before, why not this one? There has to be a reason. Today was probably the worst coverage of tennis I have ever witness with CBS and now USA.

USA Network sucked badly today, first, Jim Courier who by the way only speaks one language, made fun of Richard Gasquet's accent. And then, they cut their night match coverage for Law and Order??!!! What the hell is wrong with this network????

Allure
09-06-2005, 03:10 AM
Ugghh...I'm so freaking pissed off. I wanted to see the whole match. They barely show Gasquet matches enough as it is and the one time they do show him, they cut it short. WTF? No offense to L&O, but isn't it on everyday on USA plus Wednesdays on NBC. :(

This is ridiculous!

Are that many people really jonseing for the umphundredth repeat of L&O that they will cause riot if it is not shown?

USA has extended coverage for other matches so why the sudden switch tonight?

And it was a good match!

Awww...I am so disappointed. I went downstairs to wash my face and get some nail polish remover, expecting to go upstairs and use the tennis to go to sleep(it was a good match and all, but it would get me to sleep faster than me thinking about life or something :)) I get upstairs and see some freak man and realize it is Law and Order.
Argh.
Today was not a good tennis day for me. It kills me how on last Monday I was so excited about the Open and now how little I am actually enjoying it, and I think it is partially the fault of CBS and its cronies.

Wow. They wouldn't do this if Agassi, Arod, Fed, or others were on. Nadal/Jenkins went on way later than this.

I am about to just give up on the point tracker...it is so slow that it becomes irrelevant.

I heard, this is f'ing ridiculous to say the least. Thank goodness I have no tv in college, cause otherwise I'd be flaming and steaming, probably would have thrown my tv out the window. I mean f'ing reruns of law and order cause I am dead sure its reruns they havent shown new episodes in like years now. This is how much respect american telecasters pay to tennis, BS really which they could all shove up where we all know where.  lame lame!

This annoyed the hell out of me. We missed the third set which, from the stats, looked amazing.

Combined 41 winners and only 13 errors.

Oh well. Shitty tennis coverage strikes again.

My dad watches like 8 episodes of Law and Order a day, so he is probably thrilled. It sucks for me though, I totally missed Richard winning the third set, and I don't know what happened when his game fell apart towards the end... I will definitely send them an email.

Here is a response I received from USA today regarding my complaint of the interrupted coverage last night.

Dear Viewer,

Thank you for your e-mail. We greatly appreciate your input. Regrettably, the high volume of correspondence we receive prevents us from providing individual responses to every e-mail. Though we may not be able to answer all mail directly, we will make sure all comments are directed to the appropriate contacts.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Best regards,
USA Network

Go help them if they interrupt tonight's Venus-Kim match or tomorrow's Agassi-Blake. :armed:

USA Network Pulled the Plug
By THE NEW YORK TIMES

The USA Network left some tennis fans confused Monday night when it left the Robby Ginepri-Richard Gasquet United States Open match in the third set to join its regularly scheduled showing of "Law & Order: SVU" at 11 p.m.

USA is not contractually obligated to carry matches past 11 p.m., but routinely has in the past, and did Saturday night for Ginepri's third-round victory over Tommy Haas.

But Monday night, Gordon Beck, USA's executive producer for sports, said he determined that the slow pace of the three-hour Ginepri-Gasquet match made it unlikely that it would end at a reasonable time. When USA broke away, each player had won a set, with the third set just starting. "My judgment was that it would take a long time to complete the next two sets, let alone a fifth set," Beck said.

He said USA received about 30 calls to protest his decision.

The last part of Ginepri's five-set victory was seen on CBS's late-night tennis show, which begins at 12:37 a.m.

Beck said if one of the players had been Andre Agassi or Roger Federer, USA would have stayed past 11 "because you know it would have been a broader audience."

Don't blame networks. It's tennis's scoring fault. You need to know when a match would end !!

Just curious....did everyone who sent USA an email get the same BS response. belows is thier response and my reply. At least the article mentioned above admitted if it were Federer they would have stayed on, but using the time excuse is BS. I would prefer they simply say, "becuase Ginepri and Gaustet are weak draws and we'd make more money on L&O rereuns.

Also, kind of curious why the CBS coverage is tape delayed on the West coast...are all thier matches delayed into prime time out there? GB

USA Network -

Nice try….the Clisters/Williams match went WELL PAST your end time (it also concluded on CBS); the Agassi/Blake match is also going WELL PAST the cutoff, and several other matches were obvious from the start they would go well past 11 EDT. So why was the Ginepri match really cutoff? A little honesty would be appreciated!

Subject: Re: Commitment to US Open coverage

Thank you for expressing your concerns about our US Open coverage; all opinions are appreciated, both positive and negative. Regarding Monday night's match between Robby Ginepri and Richard Gasquet, it was determined that the match would continue well past our scheduled end time of 11PM (Eastern time), and so we resumed our scheduled programming at that time. Had the match been closer to its conclusion we would have continued our coverage. CBS aired the end of the match during their late-night US Open highlights show, which was live in the East and on tape-delay in the West.
