Lee 08-30-2005, 03:12 AM Let's cheer for Guga here!! Lee 08-30-2005, 03:14 AM I don't know the form of Guga since he didn't play on hard court at all. Hopefully, Paul Goldstein is not much better. Billabong 08-30-2005, 03:17 AM I almost forgot about his match, I feel I haven't seen him in a decade:sad: On UOL they say Guga has a plan, will play as he has nothing to lose and will go for his shots. Guga didn't talk about any injury or stomach problem, said he knew Goldstein well and let's hope for the best:) Billabong 08-30-2005, 03:19 AM The problem is, Goldstein played a lot of hardcourt challengers recently so he certainly has more rhythm and match play than Guga. But will Guga feel some magic and optimism:)? Will he play like we know he can:)? Anything can happen! kallrose 08-30-2005, 03:32 AM HI Lee and Seb :wavey: It's been so long since I've seen or cheered Guga, I hope he does well. GO GUGA!!!! I hope it's not too painful for him  I♥PsY@Mus!c 08-30-2005, 06:20 PM 3-0 Time to enhance bps conversion. :boxing: Lee 08-30-2005, 06:21 PM Guga needs to bring his 1st serve up at least to 50%. Lee 08-30-2005, 06:49 PM Wow 23 aces for Guga. :rocker: Billabong 08-30-2005, 06:50 PM Poor Djokovic:sad::tears: He really looks dead and in pain out there, but why isn't there anyone to help him:eek:? Billabong 08-30-2005, 06:50 PM NOOOO Break point:mad: save it Guga! Billabong 08-30-2005, 06:52 PM UFFFFF Guga held serve, 1-1:)! But is it me or Guga has more trouble to hold his serve since the last few games? Cmon Guga keep it up!!! Lee 08-30-2005, 06:58 PM Guga dear, get your first serve in please. Billabong 08-30-2005, 06:58 PM 2-1 Goldstein, Guga will serve... I wonder how he's feeling right now?? I hope everything's okay:) Lee 08-30-2005, 06:59 PM UFFFFF Guga held serve, 1-1:)! But is it me or Guga has more trouble to hold his serve since the last few games? Cmon Guga keep it up!!! His 1st serve % is 25. Tough to win a game with this, right? Billabong 08-30-2005, 07:00 PM lol Lee that's terrible:eek: 2-2 Guga:) Go get the break Guga:) Lee 08-30-2005, 07:06 PM Finally an easy service game for Guga 3-3 Billabong 08-30-2005, 07:08 PM Guga has less chances than in the first 3 sets to break, 30-0:( Cmon Guga focus on the return game (while serving well):D! Lee 08-30-2005, 07:09 PM I have to keep saying! Guga dear, cut down your UEs. Billabong 08-30-2005, 07:09 PM Guga has 71 winners to 19, have you ever seen that:eek:? Billabong 08-30-2005, 07:16 PM Deuce on Guga's serve... Cmon GUGA hold!!! Lee 08-30-2005, 07:16 PM Guga has 71 winners to 19, have you ever seen that:eek:? Guga has been dictating plays all the time. So, it's normal but I think the actual stat is 82 for guga and 23 for Paul right now. Lee 08-30-2005, 07:17 PM 30 aces for Guga. Come on Guga!!!! Lee 08-30-2005, 07:18 PM Guga's on TV again but has to save another bp. Go Guga!!!! Lee 08-30-2005, 07:20 PM He's definitely still miss his rhythm. Good save with an ace and 10th duece. Lee 08-30-2005, 07:23 PM  The crowd cheered loudly for Guga even he's playing vs an American. Lee 08-30-2005, 07:27 PM I'm smashing my head for all those BPs missed. I♥PsY@Mus!c 08-30-2005, 07:28 PM What's up? :armed: He can't take the bps again? :help: Billabong 08-30-2005, 07:29 PM OMG WAY too many UFES in the net, stop that Guga! Well done Guga, now destroy Robredo:banana:!!!!!!!!!:woohoo: Dirk 08-30-2005, 07:46 PM Guga was so sweet and nice to Paul at the net. He smiled and talked to him and put his arm around him. Guga was so great today. He was hitting winners all over the place. I love his hair too. Glad he is back and I hope he can do some damage next year during his favorite season. Cris 08-30-2005, 07:49 PM Well Done, Guga! Vamos!!! :yippee: kallrose 08-30-2005, 07:52 PM WOO HOO!!!!!!!! GUGA WON!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: brazuca5copas 08-30-2005, 07:55 PM OMG I'm so happy !!!!!!!!! I didn't saw the match just the scores ... this is really good to Guga ! Billabong 08-30-2005, 08:03 PM Guga is sooooo inconsistent though, but he did hit a lot more winners than UFES, so he's definitely in the right direction:yeah: The stadium was all with Guga, even though Goldtein is American:lol: Loved it:D! It reminds me again and again why Guga is by far my all-time fave player:D! Robredo will be a lot tougher, I just hope Guga can play his game, be aggressive and outplay Robredo:D! When Tommy is angry, he can tank points and be very negative, so watch out;)! Lee 08-30-2005, 08:09 PM A 4 sets match is a good way to get some of his rhythm back. His UEs are mainly contributed by his lack of match play. A slight hesitation when approaching his shot results in most of his UEs. Tommy is a top 20 player while Goldstein is the "challenger king" (according to Jim Courier). It's a whole new ball game and I'll be happy that Guga will play a good one vs Tommy. I don't hold much hope of him winning. shotgun 08-30-2005, 08:10 PM I could only watch the first four or five games. Guga was playing in a really agressive style. Too bad that it took him more than 3 hours, he must be really tired. But let's hope that he gets 100% by the time he faces Robredo. Olê, olê, olê, olá... Guga.... Guga... Guga didn't look tired to me when I watched the last set. nomanda 08-30-2005, 08:20 PM Awww Guga, good job!!! I'm sooo happy :D I hope he'll have an easy match in 2nd round... And I hope they will broadcast it on "Eurosport".. Billabong 08-30-2005, 08:42 PM I agree with Lee, Guga didn't look tired at all:) He was ready for a fifth set, and he enjoyed his match I think:) He looked very positive:D! Lee 08-30-2005, 08:46 PM The hot and humid weather is a plus for Guga as he's used to it while it's tough for his opponents. amethyst 08-30-2005, 08:47 PM :bounce: Guga won a match :bounce: When I came home, I could catch a replay of the deciding tiebreak on Eurosport. It´s great he´s playing aggressive again and his body didn´t break down in such a long match. His hairstyle is a bit strange  Lee 08-30-2005, 08:52 PM Guga is aggressive because Goldstein is not much a player (at ATP level) so Robredo will be the BIG test. Goldstein basically allowed Guga to dictate the whole match, 99 winners to 73 UEs and compare to Goldstein's 26-32. Goldstein just hit the ball back and waited for Guga to make mistake most of the time. And 3/18 (17%) bp conversion rate is just sick. Of course, it's better than 0/7 for Goldstein. amethyst 08-30-2005, 09:02 PM Guga is aggressive because Goldstein is not much a player (at ATP level) so Robredo will be the BIG test. I know Robredo will be a completely different story - and I don´t exspect Guga to win this. But compared to the match I saw in Stuttgart I think it´s quite a progress for Guga being aggressive again. And it´s also a progress he didn´t falter mentally after wasting so many bps and comitting so many UEs. Jorge 08-30-2005, 09:35 PM Guga vs Tommy? I really like both of them but Guga always will be my número 1. Boa Sorte Gustavo! :) tall_one 08-30-2005, 10:12 PM WTG Guga! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/fuzwadd/smileys/b_tennis.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/fuzwadd/smileys/b_pompom.gif Good Luck versus Tommy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/fuzwadd/smileys/b_pompom.gif Billabong 08-31-2005, 01:14 AM Awesome Guga comments:) New York (U.S.A.) - the victory in the estréia in the Opened one of the United States in this tuesday meant very for the Brazilian Gistavo Kuerten in its fight for the complete recovery of the surgeries suffered in the right hip. Today, it defeated the American Paul Goldstein for 3 sets the 1, partial of 6/2, 6/7 (5/7), 6/3 and 7/6 (7/3), in little more than three hours, detaching mental force that made it to escape of situations complicated in the estréia. "Still I am not 100%, I feel lack of force in the leg, but I am each better time and the truth is that I not wise person very well what it went to happen. It has times did not play a long departure, but the mental one favored, left difficult situations and left squares it without pain, with a normal muscular fatigue, in extreme conditions of heat ", commented the tricampeão of Roland Garros. "For me it was as if it was my first victory in a Grand Slam, a very good moment", said Guga, that did not win a game in a match of this category since Roland Garros, in the last year. "It made much time that did not gain a departure of Grand Slam and here in the US Open also. I am very happy to leave squares with a victory, after three hours of game. Nowadays, to gain this game means very for me. It gives the certainty to me of that I can come back to play mine better tennis and of that I am in the certain way." In one it squares completely 11 full of Brazilian fans and American, Guga was one of the great attractions of this terça in New York. "As I am without clothes contract, a friend mine of Floripa draws these shirts for me and made this special one for the US Open." For the next departure, in the thursday, Guga will have another test against the Spaniard Tommy Robredo, 20º of the world. "I go to tan this victory until tomorrow and already starting to think about the next game, facing as a harder test still." I try to think positive that Guga survived many bad service games and are improving. Tommy will be very frustrated not able to break. It's quite amazing that there's only 1 bp from 13 receiving points won by Tommy in 4 service games by Guga. Lee 09-01-2005, 04:27 PM *phew* saved another bp. Tommy should be very frustrated now.
