Of course he has, but Feña needs to play well in the indoor season :)

yep, he has to play well :) the good thing is that he doesn't have to defend points until next year :D in 2004 he lost in the first round of every tournament but when he came back to Chile in the press conference he said that this year it will be different because he feels so much better now :yeah:

I admit I was a little bummed after he lost in the 3rd round of the USO-not because that's a bad showing just because I had high hopes for Fena but really if he puts the effort in he can do well the rest of the year and perhaps still reach his goals! He has so much talent and has done so well this year so far I know he can do it! VAMOS FENA!!! :bounce:

:yeah:

Yes it’s great that he’s gone 1 spot up without playing :yeah:

I’ve been following Fernando’s ranking closely all week (thanks to Judio’s great work in his GM thread) and to be honest I was glad to see everyone who was close behind him losing early so that he’s still a good chance to get seeded in IW and hopefully for Miami as well ;)

I’m not sure if for IW seeding the rank as per today or next Monday will be considered. I’ve asked that question in Judio’s thread.

GonzoFan
02-27-2006, 04:04 PM

I was thinking the same thing, but it’s really sad what happened to Johansson – such a freak accident

And that reminded me that Fernando had a similar accident during his doubles match with José Acasuso in the Buenos Aires tournament 2003, but thanks god his retina was not damaged or even detached like in Johansson’s case.

Too bad about Johansson but it would be great if Fena was seeded. Just hate to see it because of another player's misfortune.

Well we don’t need to worry any further whether Fernando will be seeded in IW and Miami since it’s 32 seeds with a bye in the first round :D and not only 16 like I thought. Judio posted this extra info in his thread because he’s probably wondering why we were “panicking” about this weeks or next weeks ranking

hiya all! many of u may not know me, several do!sorry sparko...been busy with fixing my messed up knee!

this may be a bit late, but better late than never.
what matters the most of course is gonzos performances on grand salm levels, adding the masters series as well. with his ranking fluctating all the time, im sure he must be a little worried about his game. or maybe gisela is giving him a little la la and he is preocupied?? (smile) i wont spread a rumor, but seems so!

like i said sparko,,,he was doing so well on his own up until he hooked up with stefanki. he lost 2nd round in roland garos and wimbledon! and wimbleodn to who? david ferrer, a surely strong player but nevertheless uncomfortable on grass! maybe stefanki has been trying to incorporate new dimensions to gonzos game and are still not working. we should see what'll happen next if he goes to defend amersfort and play at the U.S. open. other than that... i really want to see him advaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaance!

:wavey: CTG!!! Great to see you finally posting! Hope your knee is healing ok. (Sorry-I didn't see your post earlier-guess I didn't come to this thread as I don't like to see Fena's rank go down  ) You may be right about Stefanki and not being used to new things. At both slams though he played a great game to beat Safin and then loose in the next round. Maybe he was really phsyched up to beat Marat and then had little left in the next matches. Whatever the reason I'm confident he'll get back in the top 10. He seeems determinded to do so and that is why he is playing hardcourts now instead of the European clay season (he's not at Amersfort this year, but Indianapolis here is the States). He had a taste of the Masters last year and wants to be back this year and wants more time on hardcourts before the next two MS events and the US Open. :yeah:

Going down one point isn't too bad considering he won the title at Amersfoort last year and lost those points but it is a bummer he's not in the top 16 for the Masters. If he does well next week is that soon enough to bring up his rank?

ChinoRios4Ever
07-23-2006, 11:34 PM
feña only will add points if he reach semis or better at L.A.

His non Grand Slams and Masters Series points are:

is good being 16, but the 13-14-15-16 seeds could face roger or rafa in the 3rd rd, and No3 nalbandian and No4 ljubicic also are so dangerous in that round

feña needs a big result either in toronto or cincy to back into top 10 fight

FEÑA IS 13 NOW

But he has 1700 pts, and 14 berdych 1690, 15 nieminen 1680 and 16 ferrer 1655

he needs to reach 3rd rd or better to add more pts to get a better seed at the US Open

Also 11 Roddick and 12 Hewitt defend Final and SF from cincy, A-Rod could face Roger in quarters and Lleyton is out of cincy, good news for feña and also Ancic is injuried too

Gracias, No1 Rios, for listing the points Fena has to defend this year! That really helps us track his progress.

If Fena makes the 2nd week of the three remaining slams, he will gain valuable points -- he can gain the most at the slams.

Next goal for Fena is to do well at the TMSes also, even tho he did make the SF in MC, QF in Roma, SF at Toronto and Cincy and F in Madrid -- at least they're spread out a little.

But the main goal for Fena is to win a title, preferably a big one!!
