really bad loss for the USO ( now who's gonna entertain the tournement? Stepanek oh gosh ! Federer is going to win against Roddick in the finale for sure ! :( ) hope he will recover soon and that he will play pekin, madrid and bercy because he has a lots of points to defend....it's also possible that he won't pay till' the Aussie Open who knows....but anyway even that's difficult to admit but marat took the right decision if he's not enough fit he needs to get some rest and follow a treatment to be in better shape ....

I'm glad.

I always thought it was a bad idea for Marat to be playing on that knee; when I watched him play the last few weeks, I kept wincing at every move he made. Best to let it heal properly.

That's what I wonder, too... he should have listened to doctors' opinion, but he's so obstinate... :banghead: Hopefully he won't overpay it... :tears:

I'm glad.

I always thought it was a bad idea for Marat to be playing on that knee; when I watched him play the last few weeks, I kept wincing at every move he made. Best to let it heal properly.

I was almost happy when he lost to Ginepri, cos he was definitely sore, and I wanted him to take some rest... I hope it's not anything serious... as far as I know, he didn't have a "real" operation, he preferred a seriousless one, in order to be back to US open... I hope he won't pay for his mistakes..
I can't understand why he was so rash... he's already had injuries, he's not a kid! :banghead:

Third year he won't be (really) at the Open. Maybe I shouldn't go now

Let's look at Marat's results at the USO:

2000 Won
2001 Semis
2002 Bounced, 2nd rd.
2003 Injured. DNP.
2004 Bounced, 1st rd.
2005 Injured. DNP.

DOH! :banghead: This sucks.

I suppose Hewitt fans can relax now, I don't see anyone in his section bothering him.
I really fancy P-H Mathieu to make it to his 1st ever Grand Slam quarter-final now. Also Monfils, Djokovic and Ancic will all be trying to take advantage.

Get well soon, Marat.

Well, at least there's still plenty to look forward too this year.
Here in England, they're going to televise the Davis Cup SF, Croatia v Russia. I can't wait to see Marat take on Ljubicic and Ancic. Also can't wait for the 2 big indoor tournaments in Madrid and Paris, Marat seems to be at his best playing indoors.

At his next grand slam in Australia, he's going to be 26. He's not young anymore. From now on he's in his late 20s playing grand slams.

:woohoo: If he/she thinks Marat can take on Lju or Mario and have a good run in Paris and Madrid, then I`m being too pesimistic ;)
Yes, yes...... he`ll be fine, he`ll be back on court soon....

The left knee is the one he have been having problems with during all this time (and IMO this is the important/main/¿only? knee with problems).
Some people posted that during a practise (with Moya??) on Friday he "twisted" his right knee....

It's bad to miss him in this USO, as I'm looking forward to some good semis...

I'm wondering the same, why he played Cincy with the risk of endangering his knees instead of rest to heal them, then maybe he would've been fine in time for USO. God knows what is in mind...Perhaps he wanted to grab the 4th seed for USO...all in all it's such a bad and costly decision. He really should get his brain together in taking good care of his health.

I hope he will be fine soon...at least turn up in TMC.

Sorry I didn't mean to depress anyone. I'm just amazed at how quickly times are changing. I'm sure there are still plenty of titles - Grand Slam and Masters Series - ahead of him.
Now that Davydenko is playing well, I'm sure he can win the Davis Cup too.

such bad news  but it's a good decision on his behalf...he wasn't defending anything and wasn't likely to go too deep given the circumstances with his knee so the best thing to do is rest. Hopefully he is still able to play some tournies in 2005, especially Madrid and Paris...but at the moment, all i want is for him to get better...so if it means he has to miss the rest of the season, so be it. i'd rather that than him pushing himself and doing himself worse damage...

The only player with a remote chance of challenging Federer is gone.. Just give that trophey to Swiss Miss now..

I'm sad for Marat. What started off as a great year has turned into a tough and frustrating year for Safin. Now he has to deal with this career threatening knee injury and hope surgery helps because rest hasn't helped a damn bit. I still can't believe after Marat won Oz he then played hurt at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and missed the U.S. Open because of this troubling knee injury. :( What's worst of all is that once big tennis players get seriously injured they never fully recover. Just ask Rosset, Ivanisevic, Philliphoussis and many others.
