Has he done anything to make us think that he can?

My answer: no he cannot. His draw isn't horrible. I could see him winning a maximum of 3 matches before his USO ends. But by the time he gets to Coria/Chela/Lopez that'll be the end, in my opinion.

He sucks. He always has sucked, he always will suck. He's one of the suckiest suckers that ever sucked. Except...no everything about his tennis sucks.

:secret: ( I just love taking a page out of Fumus's notebook).

Oh, and unless I wasn't very clear on this - he won't win the US Open.

I'm chilean and a fan of Massu (because he's chilean, not especifically coz he has "good tennis" ) but I never ever thought that he can win a slam. At least not for now, coz his game is so poorly at this moment. He needs to gain confidence again for his play and then he just will be able to obtain good results.

Off course Massu can win the US Open. Here's how I think he'll do it:

He'll beat Gambill in the 1st round and Norman in the 2nd easily.
Puerta in the 3rd round. Massu leads their H2H 1-0 so he should have the advantage.
Lopez in the 4th round. H2H is 2-0 to Massu - Massu will win.
In the quarter-final, he plays Roddick. H2H is 2-0 to Massu so another routine win.
Meanwhile, Agassi and Nadal will play eachother in the night session and go to 5 sets. Agassi will edge it but he'll be too worn out to play Massu in the semis and will have to withdraw.
So to the final: Federer v Massu. H2H is 1-1 but Massu won their last meeting on hard courts in Long Island. This will give Massu the psychological edge and he'll beat Fed in 5 sets.
Well Done Nicolas!:bigclap:

Btw, Will Hill put him at 200/1 to win. Worth a fiver?

Sorry to disagree but you have no argument to substain that Massu has certain chances to win the title at the Usopen or even a Grand Slam. If you think that beating guys like Spadea, Fish, Dent or washed out Kuerten and Moya players likes is enough to be considered a contender for a Grand Slam then you are a :smash: .
He is a great player of course olympic champion, but not a grand slam champion. Never.

im not gonna be hrrible, he is a player like anyone else, but to put it delicately he doesnt possess grand slam winner material in his game. I mean look at federer, he can mix and match his gmae inside out to beat who he likes. Nadal will out run anything on the court, and will get any ball. Roddik can fiercly hit anyball, so can safin, and not to mention hewitts mental attitude towards the game.

These are the true contenders of the slam title.

Will Nico win it? Probably not. Can he win it? Yes, like any player. Who would have thought Andy would be out in the 1st round? Upsets are unlikely but not impossible. He could go quite far. He's got Gaby as coach back so who knows. He had worked himself to the top 10 before injuries so he has talent and works hard. In reality there are very few players I would bet could beat Roger in the end but Impossible is Nothing.

No you aren´t buddy . He is such an asshole. For me , for you, for the ballboys, for the umpires, for the spectators , for everybody .
Always faking injuries, always complaining, always taking more time than allowed between points, what a pain in the ass.
Having said so , Coria is the same type of player. Has the same defects and he´s not my cup of tea either even being a fellow countryman .
Please, we have to stop with those " so-called smart guys " who always fake injuries and don´t respect the opponents. ATP should be stricter concerning these issues.
Coria please learn to serve or put a picture of Dementieva in the ads of your tennis Academy. Just to show your clients how they´ll serve in the future with your advice ...........

A Massu win is unlikely of course but there is no reason he can't do well at the AO. Obviously there is a short list of favorites to win the title and but surprises do happen and Nico or anyother player can always have a great run and give us an unexpected result. And as far as I'm concerned that is a lot more fun than the usual supsects always winning.

So VAMOS!!! to Nico and all those players no one thinks have a chance to win!!!

Yes, I was at that match...Nico gifted the match to Guille who was serving at about 80 mph. But he had done very well to get to that point, and as you said, did much better than anyone would have thought he would have done. :yeah:

This year, however, I doubt that he will get past the first round. He has less than zero confidence.

08-25-2007, 12:40 AM
In fairness one could suggest that he was only in a winning position because Coria gifted him the third set, he served for it at 6-5 and then proceeded to serve 8 doubles in a marathon game which he ended up losing and then the tiebreak along with it. I'm sure that was the match where the serving woes began, I don't remember it happening before then and it was incredible how they were all over the place all of a sudden.
