The life of a developing professional player is such that Britain's Andy Murray has found himself journeying from his first ATP Tour final against Roger Federer, the world No 1, in Bangkok last Sunday, to face Ivo Heuberger, a Swiss probably best known as one of Martina Hingis's early boyfriends, in a lower-level Challenger event in Mons, Belgium, today.

Murray, whose progress at the Thailand Open elevated his ranking to No 72, is the seventh seed in Mons. He won two Challenger tournaments in the United States in the summer, which also helped raise his status.
Having worked so hard in Bangkok, Murray would have preferred to have taken a week off. But, having committed himself to the event in Mons several weeks ago, he is obliged to go there, even though victories there will not make an appreciable difference to his world ranking.
Should he overcome Heuberger, the 18-year-old Murray would be likely to face Xavier Malisse, one of Belgium's finest players, in the quarter-finals.
Murray's longer term plans include trying to qualify for the Madrid Masters later this month. He may also try to qualify for Basle, and the Paris Masters. For the moment, however, he must concentrate on an indoor court in Flanders.

Tim Henman, the British No 1, voiced his approval yesterday of the teenager's rise to worldwide attention.
"It was obviously a fantastic week for Andy reaching his first ATP final," Henman said. "It's always easy to say that if he'd played a bit better then he might have won. However, one of Roger's great strengths is his ability to play well enough to get the job done, irrespective of who he's playing. There's no doubt he's beatable but it was always going to be a big ask for Andy to do it under the circumstances, but I'm sure he'll take a lot of positives from his performance, particularly in the second set - and rightly so."

Well if Gabashvili can extend Ollie to 76 76 on a surface he doesn't have much experiance or good results on then Lucasz should have a reasonable chance especially as he will be far better rested and will be playing on his favorite surface.

yes, i must agree, but you know Lukasz's mentally weak at times. he might get scared or something. however that victory over Bracciali uhmmm... (of course i predicted it ;) ) i really don't know... Gaba is a great fighter, his style is totally different to Lukasz's and he loves to play against the crowd.

He lost, but it was him whom the crowd supported and after the match finished, he played some balls to few guys in the stands. It was :yeah:

Are you from UK? That guy's gotta have lotsa points to defend next season but what I have to say, I believe in him ;) He's good on grass, he can feel this game, but doesn't have too much experience on this surface. He played in 2nd round of doubles with his Hungarian friend, after Q in 2004 as far as I remember.
What he said in Szczecin at press conferences is that he's trying to play more on hardcourt, that's why he modified his service. From what I saw, he really improved his game, including to what I saw in Sopot or especially Wrocław against Tabara (better forget that match... :rolleyes: ) this year. He has a coach from Czech Republic and spends quite a lot of time in Prague. Before, he used to train in Austria. In Poland, he's a player of club in Wrocław, b'cause he's born in this region (Lower Silesia RLZ!).
And what I think he needs, is to try himself in ATP Q events. He's already got some stable form in challengers, it's pretty good :yeah: and won his first one couple of weeks ago. He's on the list to Vienna Q. I wonder if he appears there.

I do sympathise. It has happened at Wimbledon so often. We dream of a British win, and then Henman goes out in the semi finals. But there are other Belgians left in. Who knows, Malisse may beat Murray tomorrow.
