He needs to stop, try to analyse what's going on, identify the problem and then play some challengers. Get the confidence back up, some wins on ATP level, then back to the normal.

GlennMirnyi

Well, he should get in the main draw anyway in those tournaments, but before... some CH would be nice.

I've been saying that for over a year now and I doubt it's going to happen. I fear that he's too proud and stubborn to make that step. Just like Tim Henman. :o

I don't think he's stubborn, I just think he hasn't identified what's going on. Like, you know when you're doing something bad but you think you're not? That's it.

I suppose there's one more reason why Max isn't playing CHs. Challengers give less doubles ranking points and prize money than ATP tour.

GlennMirnyi

Yeah, but soon he won't be gettin' any MDs in ATP tournaments.

from Jonas interview

Q: You played the doubles with compatriot Thomas Johansson in Båstad, will you and Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi continue to play together?

Bjorkman: "Yes, we have played as many tournaments together this year as all the other years: Monte Carlo, Rom, Hamburg, Paris, Queens and Wimbledon. Max is off every day I play at Båstad and due to lack of results in the singles, he plays several tournaments when I have off and the same thing happened last year. So luck has not been on our side but now we're focusing on the US Open."

Q: How do you explain this year's poor doubles results?

Bjorkman: "Both me and Max play singles as well as doubles in the big tournaments so we don't have much time to play together, but go straight into the doubles when we lose in the singles. That means that we don't have enough time to get back into the game as we had last year."

Max' schedule is stil a puzzle for me. Why on earth he is not playing New Haven?

Why didn't he commit to the asian tournaments after the US Open? Why did he play on clay after Wimbledon instead of grass (Newport) or hardcourt? Why doesn't he play a few challengers? Let's be honest, his schedule has been crap in the past 2 years. He won't end the year in the top 150 if he continues like this.

You know, all you need is one big win to get back on track; maybe this is it?

His doubles ranking dipped, too - he's down to #7 now, with finalist points to defend at the USO.
I hope him and Jonas make a run for it, or at least try. And hopefully he'll have some success in mixed doubles.
Wish he'd play with Ai again, but doubtful.

I'm so sad... but stil not suprised at all after what I saw in St.-Petersburg on Tuesday and Wednesday. The score of the match against Kunitsyn/Jimelstob doesn't present real situation, Igor and Justin helped Max and Jonas a lot as they made all errors typical for players who have never played together before.

I really have not idea what is happening to Max lately but it is :help: :help: :help:. To be honest, he is completely out of form and not competitive even in doubles :awww: It was Max who was the weak link in the team. :o
Maybe it is better for him to end this season NOW. :awww: because I really see no point of going to Bercy :sobbing:  there are no chances they make into SF there  Max looked really tired so I would be glad to hear that he withdraws from all the tournaments this year and take a rest.. but I know that won't happen and he stil will play Paris.

Sorry for being in a such pessimistic mood today   but I just came this morning from St.-Petersburg, and I wished I wouldn't have gone there at all. It was very painfull for me to watch Max play nowadays... :speakles: :hysteric: :crying2:

I'm so sad... but stil not suprised at all after what I saw in St.-Petersburg on Tuesday and Wednesday. The score of the match against Kunitsyn/Jimelstob doesn't present real situation, Igor and Justin helped Max and Jonas a lot as they made all errors typical for players who have never played together before.

I really have not idea what is happening to Max lately but it is :help: :help: :help:. To be honest, he is completely out of form and not competitive even in doubles :awww: It was Max who was the weak link in the team. :o

I know exactly how you feel Nadie. I watched Max's match versus Murray on the internet and it's really a shame to see what he has become. He can't hit the easiest volleys anymore and to be honest, he looked as if he didn't even want to be out there. God, if I compare this week's match to the one they played at Doha this year, it's as different as chalk from cheese. He should have won their match in January but unfortunately totally forgot his gameplan after he went up 6-3, 1*-0. He couldn't even keep the match close this week although they played on an indoor carpet court. He has to play a few Futures. Challengers aren't an option anymore considering that he's getting thrashed by players ranked outside the top 200. :sobbing:

Alex are you reading my mind?
The whole crowd was from the beginning on Max side of course. But then I noticed more and more spectators (even me :tape: and my friends) began to clap Andy because he showed class, he hit awesome shots and even that play was an easy walk for him he was focused on match till the last game and I really enjoyed watching him. :hatoff:
And Max was just :smash: standing near the net, not running for the ball at all  and waiting for Andy hitting passing shots into the sideline :( so it looked like two ways: he's just to bad and couldn't even move or if he didn't want... :o

I'm comparing this match to his match vs Soderling during the DC, where I was also... The difference is so large :awww: :crying2: He had no motivation to play at all, well I guess it's ATP match not DC, but no motivation to defend his QF final last year???  :fiery:

 oh I would love seeing him next summer at Futures series here in Russia
 but I'm afraid he will prefer play only doubles at ATP tournaments till his doubles ranking allows him.
I wonder if Jonas is going to play with him next year.

from master-cup.com
Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner qualified after Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram made a first round exit at the BNP Paribas Masters on Monday. Eric Butorac and Frantisek Cermak saved one match point at 9-8 in the Match Tie-break and eventually beat the Israeli duo 7-6(1) 2-6, 11-9 (Match TB).

The eighth and final position hinges on whether defending Tennis Masters Cup champions Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi win or loss their first match at the final ATP Masters Series event of the year. :scared:

Should Bjorkman and Mirnyi win their first match they will qualify for the circuit-finale. Otherwise Erlich and Ram will get the nod for a second trip to Shanghai.

-There are at least three alternatives who are waiting for our confirmation: Fabrice Santoro, Mikhail Youzhny and Jamie Murray. But Max would like to continue playing with Jonas.

and some news about doubles rules posted in GM :hysteric: :cuckoo:
However, a few months ago, the ATP announced that they had finally taken the first step towards finding an answer to the problem. They have introduced a rule, only valid for doubles matches (men and women) to start with. It's called the "doubles withdrawal rule" and it is aimed at preventing players from giving up matches using false injury reasons to leave in time to get to another tournament.

And the rule is new for doubles because players 'tanking' matches is much more common in doubles than singles. It comes into effect from the second round in any tournament, no matter at what level. So a player who announces, during a match that he or she is injured and cannot continue, has two choices:

He/she can quit the match in the middle and lose all points and prize money accumulated in the tournament up to that stage (be it first round or final), or he/she can simply "tough it out" and keep playing to the end
:tape: :tape:

Cat123

Excuse me? That's stupid. What happens if the player obviously injures themselves during the match? Or if it's a genuine sudden illness and to continue would jeapodise their health? I see where they're coming from, but....
