I don't see a snooker thread there ;)

Thought I'd make a thread after I won a frame score bet with odds @ 10.00 yesterday from Matthew Stevens winning over Steven Hendry in 9-7

Anyone here do snooker betting?

I made a Snooker thread for the World Championship earlier this year. So yes, I bet on it. :D But I was away lately so that I couldn't see anything on Eurosport and so I didn't bet in the last tournament. Let's wait for the next one. :yeah:

Premier League Snooker tonight, of course draws are possible in Premier league snooker, but I'm going for Ding and Ronnie to take them.

Ding at @1.9, Ronnie @ 2.25

The first ranking tournament starts on Saturday (64 players).

My single predictions for the first round are:
2.85 McLeod over Hunter
1.60 Carter over Swail
1.45 Murphy over Selby
1.45 Holt over Lawler
1.45 McCulloch over Hull
1.40 Dott over Pettman
1.35 King over Mann
1.30 Stevens over Harold
1.20 Hendry over Dale

I don't know McLeod, but Hunter lost his comeback after his cancer treatments few days ago in Germany with 0-3 against Bingham, so he obviously needs some time.

The German commentator talked about the possible tournament winners and their odds and said that he would bet on Stevens, McCulloch, King and Holt to win the tournament. I will make it a bit different. Most of the players I would bet on are in the bottom half, so that I will take Carter and Ebdon from the top half. Carter could take advantage of the weak/uncertain form of O'Sullivan and Hunter. Ebdon has a good draw for the first three rounds.
Stevens/Hendry is a possible QF match in the bottom half.

So finally my tournament winner bets are (small plays):
67.00 Ali Carter
33.00 Peter Ebdon
11.00 Matthew Stevens
9.50 Stephen Hendry

My bets for the first round are:
2.85 McLeod
2.18 Dott x Stevens x Hendry
2.16 Carter x King
2.10 Murphy x McCulloch

I am putting a bit on Murphy for overall @ 13

1.44 J White over M Dunn
1.22 S Hendry over D Dale
1.30 M Williams over F O' Brien
1.25 S Maguire over M Judge
1.20 J Higgins over P Davies
1.30 M Stevens over D Harold
1.10 R O' Sullivan over B Haneveer

2.18 Dott x Stevens x Hendry

4.40 Hamilton to beat O'Sullivan
2.32 Murphy x Greene

If O'Sullivan plays like he did in the 1st round, he'll have problems against Hamilton. Murphy over Hicks should be safe and Greene is my favourite against Gunnell. His 5-0 win over Lee looks far more impressive than Gunnell's 5-3 over Parrott.

2.32 Greene x Murphy

4.40 Hamilton

Greene - Gunnell 5-2
Murphy - Hicks 5-2
Hamilton - O'Sullivan 2-5
------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday pick:

2.50 McCulloch over Higgins

It's McCulloch's home tournament, he was in the final last year and he is one of the strongest players mentally. Higgins on the other hand is one of the most talented players, but was very unreliable the whole last season. I see McCulloch winning this one.

Hendry will have a hard match against King, the odd of 1.27 is really not good enough to back him.

JMG
10-13-2005, 08:15 AM
Of course, all the other plays I considered (White, Holt, Norman) would have been succesful, but McCulloch had no chance. ;)

I noticed that betandwin, the biggest idiots, has better odds than gamebookers for Snooker. :o

All on Thursday:
2.26 O'Sullivan (x Pavel)
2.16 Holt x Hawkins
2.09 White x Murphy

JMG
10-15-2005, 11:33 AM
What I feel about today's matches is that O'Sullivan will win 6-3 and Higgins will win 6-4. But because I'm Hendry-fan I will stay away from it. I would have the chance to play Ronnie to win with -2.5 HC @1.80, but it's too risky for me. I've heard that Hawkins has played the most centuries so far.

(best-of-17: round of 32):

1* Stevens over Bingham x Dott over M.Davis @2.39

Its Swail, plus He's in much better form, confidance and sharpness than Maguire right now...
i dont like betting against my players, as ive done with mcCmanus already this week... but my snooker head thinks swail could coz a shock and he's @1.62

Doherty @2.25 over Higgins, obviously John is in amazing form, and made a 145 v Greene... but Ken is still a great player and especially in big events like this, he will feel better and be more dangerous now that he has a win under his belt and has beaten Higgins in the last 2 major meetings between them (here and World champs a few years ago, in a famous match where he led John 10-0  before eventually winning 13-8)

for me, maybe small bets on the irish but still hoping the Scots will prevail :) for the next round, Big money to be maid from Bingham and Dingalso i can see Mark Williams going far

1.45 Maguire - Swail 2.55
1.33 Higgins - Doherty 3.00

I made that bet a bit too fast I think. I didn't know they don't play today. :tears:
Swail looks like a mediocre player to me. :) Maguire - the Federer of Snooker - will crush him I think. It's time for a good tournament.

Ding should fly through his Semi (money to be made :d ), i dont see the big match situation affecting the young star, his face never shows any emotions anyway!
Bingham Bah... he choked a bit sadly (8-9 loss from 8-7 up), but still a great prospect.

hello JMG :wavey:
a new season hmm..
im still feeling great from Dotty's world glory last season :)
he gave ronnie his ass on a plate in that Semi final.
cant believe Doherty was 1 match away from being No1, the rankings really confuse me because he was nowhere the year before and Higgins had a much better season than him as well, its confusing.

JMG
08-12-2006, 07:09 PM
:hatoff:

And can you believe that Hendry is #1? ;) Well, Doherty earned a few points more the last two seasons. I guess the only two reasons why he is better are that Higgins played his best at the Masters and that doesn't count for the ranking and that Higgins lost early in Sheffield. Too bad there is no bet for new number one, because I think Higgins will do it. Doherty, Hig and Dott almost had the same points in 05/06.

I won't have the chance to watch this tournament, so I won't make more bets. Usually I reach my topform in the quarterfinals, when I have already seen some matches and in October I will prove that. Unfortunately there's only the Pot Black Invitational before October and that's not really a tournament for betting. :o

One more bet:
Michael Holt to win @126 - 2 to win 250 ;)
I hope that assclown will have a lucky run here.

Most of my snooker bets are from bwin.com (betandwin). Judge is still @2.

I don't know why, but they have good odds for snooker, while the odds for many other sports (especially tennis) are poor.

I'm loving the Premier League Snooker the underdogs have served me well in this event. I have done some quick maths and I believe that even though Jimmy White has finished his matches he will be difficult to dislodge from the semi final spot where he sits at the moment. He has a better frames won/lost average than the other guys in contention and I believe that he will qualify. This makes him a great bet to win at 10.0.

The Tennis Ninja
11-19-2006, 08:18 PM
Junhui has now pulled out of the tournamant to play the asian games making White a more or less surefire semifinalist.

The dogs have got to be worth a punt at 10-1 each with O'Sullivan at odds on.

My outrights for the World Champs, all small plays of course

8.00 Higgins
11.00 Hendry
17.00 Maguire
21.00 Doherty

The two top-favourites O'Sullivan and Ding Junhui play each other in the first round, the winner plays Robertson, the #1 of this season and in the QF the winner might play against Higgins. So there's a reasonable chance that Ronnie goes out early.

Maguire has a good draw for the early rounds, then it could be defending champ Dott in the QF and the winner of the Ronnie/Ding/Robertson quarter in the SF. Of course my hope is that Ronnie loses in the first three rounds already.

Hendry and Doherty are my favourites to make the SF in the bottom half of the draw.

Higgins is a bet I made months ago and now you would get him at a better price, because he wasn't in form lately.

JMG
04-10-2007, 01:40 PM
My first bet will be

Carter x Ebdon x Hendry @ 2.00

Carter is 1.50 against Hicks. If he can keep his form from recent events, he will win this won for sure. The other two should win easily even if they play crap.

There's not much value at all in the first round. The only +odds bet I'm interested in is Lee over Selby @ 2.10. I have to find out what kind of personal problem Lee had last month and then I may take it, because in form I rate him a bit higher than Selby.

Other lean: Hawkins @ 1.55 vs O'Brien

Perry @ 2.55 vs Maguire is also a nice price considering Maguire's weak performance against Murphy in China, but I won't bet against my outrights at this early stage.

The World Champs start on 21th April btw ;) and I'm sure there will be a lot of live streaming on the Eurosport site, for those who can't watch it on TV.

Of course Hendry isn't at the top of his game as he once was, but he's still consistent, still backable and still in the mix of players you have to consider to win this tournament.

Can't resist a shot at this:

Parrott over Murphy @ 9.00 (1 unit) - score is currently 5/4 in favour of Murphy, but the momentum is with the elder man having recovered from 0/4 down (although only 1 frame has been played this morning). Murphy is obviously no stranger to this place, having won on his debut 2 years ago, but Parrott has experience that Murphy can only dream of. Parrott edged a nervy opening encounter with friend, and fellow presenter, Davis...he is firm underdog in this match and should continue to play with the mindset that he has nothing to lose. What's more, Murphy hasn't been at his best this year, and is certainly by no means unbeatable.

Neil Robertson to win World Championship #17.oo

Imo, the winner of the Robertson - O'Sullivan match will win championship this year. There is no other such a pure talent as the Rocket, but with him you'll never know. And the Aussie will be truly tested here.

If he passes O'Sullivan than I really don't see player who can be a competitor for him. Higgins is poor, or at least far from his best. Maguire is simply worse player... and then, in the final... ok, maybe Ebdon with his irritating style of game could trouble him a bit... but in the end i think Robertson should win there...

Surely, firstly he have to beat O'Sullivan. But he did it twice this year so why not another one... And if he beats him than you can forget about price over 10.oo...

Barring a totally unforseen comeback. Poor stuff from Hendry, blown a number of frame winning opportunities. Credit to Carter, he has taken all of them.

Higgins is not so far from his best I think, he can win the whole thing.
I was watching his first session against O'Brian and he was really disappointed then. Missed easy shots, played awful safties, really nothing impressive. He had luck becasue he played against even weaker opponent.

Yesterday he built some nice breaks so maybe this first session was only one bad day???

I like him, wishing him well, but its a bit irritatintg he always looks like he is about to cry in a while ;)

6* Maguire x Higgins @ 1.68

Even bwin had 1.80 for this, but it's still good enough for me. I don't think Higgins can lose this one, he should win something like 13-7. "The Outlaw" Joe Swail can be dangerous, wasn't much worse than Maguire in the first round, but I think Maguire will improve from round to round. He's by far more talented and the semifinal spot should be his (would play McCulloch/Hamilton next).

Selby and Allen +2.5 are interesting, but I won't play them. :o

Fergal cant be under-estimated here, has beaten higgins and ronnie on the way to the final.

On the otherhand Maguire has been very impressive, beating ding, murphy and robertson on route to the final.

Think this will be tight and fergal has the home rampant crowd but i reckon nerves will get the better of him and maguire will win.

Barry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I chucked away my slip, i had to fill out a lost reciept form at the bookies.

For today...

Cope and hawkins have history, i believe a few months ago Hawkins choked against jamie in a ranking event, not sure which one, this one could be close and i am tempted on Barry, he must be buzzing after that comeback.

I reckon

Fu looks solid at 8/11 to beat Perry- Perry was lucky to beat Robertson, Fu usually very good in long matches, beat the ever impressive day 9-6 and recently won a ranking tile beating ronnie in the final, in form.

Selby also looks good at 4/7 to beat Harold- I rarely see Harold back up shock wins, he beat ebdon last year and then lost 9-2 to Nigel Bond in the next match, big of a fruitcake this harold i reckon.

Williams trailes 5-3 to allen, currently 2-1 to win. Williams has been awful for 2 years now but recently hooked up with his coach terry griffths this relation gave o him many titles a few years back. Dont forget that williams use to be a beast on the snooker scene, won to world titles, masters, uk , china open and many more. Has an absoulutely brilliant record in the uk event and at 2-1 is big to win.

Williams beat allen 2-1 (trails 5-3)

I was sure that Ebdon would lose in first round : this guy always plays "risky offensive" snooker. Peter could be the best in the world when he played like last year at Uk Championships but a poor player when confidence is gone, like it seens to be since a couple of months. If a member could post what was Ebdon's odd against Ian McCulloch. I was surely in a flight during his match ( ) but it would have been the biggest LAY of my life if odds were 1.45 and less. :haha:
