Yeeeeessssssss! Very well done Andy :bigclap: JCF gave him/us quite a scare for a while there (an inhuman 100% second serve in the first set  ) . But he pulled if off. I don't know how but he did  It's not everyday Andy does this now. He's struggled all summer and he's struggled here but he won and deserved to win. :D I'm so haappeeeeee :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Another really good match, I gave JCF no chance at all and he almost pulled the upset. Great match lot of fight from Andy his fans should be happy.

JCF just laid down in the end, well atleast you are still better looking than Roddick

Great fight from Andy. But he proved once again that in order to play inspired tennis, he has to act like a jerk.

I started neutral when the match started. But as soon as I saw Andy acting like a prick on court, I hoped JCF would win the match. The commentator said it best, when Andy was haggling the umpire(" You are terrible etc"), "No, Andy you are terrible". I laughed when I heard that.

With that aside, its good to see roddick playing well.

I will tell you how Roddick did it, 7 aces in the second set, including one second serve ace in the tb, he started to get confident, his first serve percentage went up, Ferrero didn't even get a sniff in the second or third set. Roddick played the best he could tonight and he's only going to get better. I want to see him go far, I think a nice victory over Hewitt and then maybe over Fed in the final could be just what the doctor ordered for Andy.

 Roddick is very fortunate to have won that 2nd set. And then he went up a level in the 3rd while Ferrero went away. Oh, you stupid choker.

Roddick has been struggling a bit this summer with the exception of winning in Indianapolis. I don't think he'll win this tournament, but he can get to the semis at least.

Wouldn't agree on the "outplays" part but he definitely outfought Ferrero in this match was nice to see. Sad for Ferrero but hopefully he'll retain a whole lot from this because he obviously played awesome.

Actually Ferrero had 2 break points at 2-1 in the 2nd set, with one being saved with a net chord. My guess? Ferrero would have won the match if he broke there because he was serving so damn well until the 3rd.

Well I would've use the usual "outguns" descriptive if not for the fact that Juanqui was actually outgunning Andy  Maybe I'll do what some others have done and change it to something more bass ackwards: Roddick ANNIHILATES Ferrero 6-7(3) 7-6(5) 6-2. :cuckoo:

Anyhoo, I'm just pleased to see Andy get over a lot of bad things that just weren't going his way (bad line calls, him getting snitty with the ump again, etc.) Usually he comes undone over such things but for once, it didn't happen. Yay.

Over Fed? To paraphrase you, he sucks - against Fed. He always has sucked, he always will suck. He's one of the suckiest suckers that ever sucked. Except his forehand and serve are ok....nevermind they suck too. :wavey:

A win over Roger at one of the slams could do the trick for Andy but Roger is very good at bouncing back from bad losses, check post Oz results and post RG results this year.

Pretty much the second reason you mentioned. He played 2 sets of phenomonal tennis and then just rolled over and let Roddick spank him.

And to someone who asked when JCF will ever be back... he was back the first two sets of this match. It was vintage. It was awesome. Then Gilbert had to open his mouth, call JCF a dark horse for the USO and everything went downhill.

JCF can pump himself up for the big opponents. He just needs to get back to beating the people he SHOULD beat now. I mean, he gets all up for Federer matches, the match in Dubai earlier this year and the well fought match at Wimbledon this year, the couple matches against Safin on clay, and then the Roddick match yesterday. If he could play the way against lower ranked players that he does against the top guys, he'd be back and no one would be questioning him still. He just plays like crap against the guys he *should* beat.

Raquel
08-18-2005, 05:29 PM
Good to hear JCF found some vintage form in the first two sets. Shame he couldn't close it out in two sets, but this is still encouraging for him. Well done JC

I think another big problem with Ferrero is that he is kind of had a glass ceiling above him in the rankings. Since he is still not really seeded in the larger tournaments, he keeps having tough draws where he will pull the Safins, the Federers, the Roddicks, etc. early. It would be great for him to beat one of them and go deeper in some of these large tournaments. Then he could pull his rank up, be seeded and not have to beat a top -5 player in the second or third round. But yeah- he also needs to beat the lower ranked guys. As he has shown at Wimbledon, the French Open and last night- his game is indeed mostly back.
