I want to get myself a new digi cam because my old one isn't that good anymore, I can still take fab pics with it but I just hate the fact that it doesn't have an optical zoom.

So, I was wondering...what kind of digi cam do you have and have you made good or bad experiences with it? Or which cam would you like to have and why?

I want a Nikon Coolpix 4800 by the way. Until a few days ago I was still dreaming about a Sony Cybershot P93.

The Nikon Coolpix 5700 I have is pretty good, the problem is it focus real slow so it's tough to take action pictures. I heard that Canon is pretty good and the newer models of Coolpix is better in focusing.

Nicole do you want to take player photos during a match?

Actually I'm not just interested in taking pictures of player during matches. I also want to take pictures of me and my friends and of sights during holiday trips. I guess the defination "camera for all occasions" sums it up.

Well, I don't want to spend more than €350 . :o

A friend of me bought a Minolta Dimage Z3 and I think it's a really
good compact camera. She paid € 300.

Probably best not to talk about my cameras :D i have spent about 4 grand on my own equipment. But photography is one of my hobbies.
Now what is important for you? do you need a camera with a 12x optical zoom, or are you ok with 4x?
I will take a look for you, to reccomend a 350 - camera maybe.

What are the main uses :P photos of holiday snaps and moments with friends? or planning to use for sport ?

ok i had a look, and this one is actually quite good!

3.9 million effective pixels
4.1 million sensor photo detectors
35 mm - 420 mm (12x) zoom lens
Announced 07-Jul-04

reviews and samples here:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Konica_Minolta/konicaminolta_dimagez3.asp

dpreview is great, so if you are looking at a certain camera. go there and you can see sample images and reviews. But for a point and shoot, something like this would be great ;) 420mm is super

Had a look and there are some nice functions:
can change iso
shutter speeds
2.5 photos per second continious mode
exposure compensation
4 mega pixels is fine too.

I bought a Casio EX-Z55 some months ago and I am very satisfied with this camera. It is very small and I paid around 300 €, I think.

Digital Cameras suck Cell Phone Cameras RULE :)

There is no comparison between the two because a digital camera is the camera while a cellphone is first and foremost meant for talking!

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P100. It's 5.1 megapixels or something.

Anyway, I absolutely love it. It's small enough to toss it into any of my purses, even the smaller ones...and still takes awesome pictures. Love it. :yeah:

There are some good 'views' of the camera on this site...

Does the camera in your cell phone has a zoom lens and built in flash? :o

I have a Palm Zire 72, which can double as a cell phone (with additonal parts), has a built in digital camera and video recorder and voice recorder, but the quality of the pictures is very inferior compare to the my Coolpix 5700. :p

Well, my main uses would include holiday pictures, pictures of me and my friends and also taking pics at sports events. :p

And yeah, about the zoom...well, I wouldn't mind having a 12x zoom but even a lower one would do.

Yeah they are shitty though, have to hold them steady like a marksman to get a nice sharp images. Also a big question is size ;) do you need a really small one? because the z3 is actually quite big for a point and shoot around 500grams i think. I prefer bigger cameras, they are easier to hold and usually stronger.

The smaller the cam is, the better. I also want to be able to carry it around in my handbag. :p

Thats what most of the girlies say :p always wanting a small one
But the really small cameras, dont tend to have a big zoom on them. Maybe 4-6x usually for the smaller cameras.

Sure as for cameras I want a small one. ;)

6x zoom also sounds good to me, my old camera had a 125mm zoom and I got so many great pictures with it, I still use it sometimes when I go somewhere and know that I might be in need of a zoom in order to get good shots.

Cool phone. I love Samsungs in general because they look very stylish but mine doesn't have a cam. I think it's better that way because if I had a cam I would end up having an even higher phone bill 'cause I'd be constantly sending MMS to random people.

Just felt like bumping this old thread.

I still haven't treated myself to a new digital camera and since my latest Monaco photos turned out to be crap due to my old camera's lack of zoom and stuff like that I've come to realize that now it's officially time for a new camera.

I was thinking about buying this one because it has a killer zoom and it's also not so expensive.
