Grand result. It would grant me a lot of pleasure to see him have one last hurrah during this American hardcourt season, pounding forehands and nailing many an ace against some of the best -I imagine he could still mix it with the top players if he can get some consistent physical form going.

How comes that Younes plays this tournament? I saw he was even #27 in the entry list. Why?

he's still using his protected ranking?

anyway, great result for him...he is a really nice guy who has been missing from the tour for too long...I'm happy for him and hope he can continue to do well.

As for Feli....:retard: *no comment*

Wow. Younes!
I imagine how bad Lopez was playing but this is some serious stuff from Younes anyway.
I admire him for how he's still hanging around in tennis. He's almost as old as Agassi, but he has no results. Any other guy would have retired already.

How long can he use this protected ranking? One whole year?
Nothing against him, but it's strange to see him at #27 in an AMS event, while a player like Verdasco isn't in the main draw.

Nothing against him, but it's strange to see him at #27 in an AMS event, while a player like Verdasco isn't in the main draw.

Taken from the ATP site.

The Entry Protection shall be in effect for either the first eight (8) Tournaments that the player competes in using the Entry Protection (excluding wild cards and entries as a Direct Acceptance with his current position in the INDESIT ATP Entry System) or for the period up to nine (9) months beginning with the first tennis event that the player competes in, whichever occurs first.

All this means is that it depends on which comes first using the ranking for 8 tournaments or up to 9 months, considering he only started playing this year, we are not 9 months into the year, and he has only played 6 main draw events, so he is quite within his rights to use it and also he didn't use the protected ranking for challengers.

It's Verdasco's fault that he isn't in the main draw and no one elses.

For 8 tournaments. He's played some tournaments on challenger level, where he didn't use his PR, but entered by WC. That's why he played more tournaments than 8 already.

If he uses a WC instead of his PR, then it doesn't count.

Feli didn't play badly at all. Except for a few sitter volleys he missed - high quality stuff from both guys. And Feli dug himself out twice from 0-40 down and had chances to break Younes when he served for the match. But Younes came up with some clutch serves and outright winners in the final game to hold on.

You could tell how much this win meant for Younes and it was great to see.

Verdasco shot himself in the foot by not entering the qualies. GWH is right, Nando has no one to blame but himself.

Well done for Younes! :yeah:
Finally he broke his match losing streak and it seemed to be a good win. Also the loss to Robredo yesterday looked very close by the scoreline.
