It's not a win. He himself looked ashamed leaving the court. But he played really well, that's for sure. He broke Hewitt twice. But Lleyton was doublefaulting and not at his best, that's for sure too... Seing the opposition was better than he thought it would be. He took the wise decision to retire to be fit for the USO.

Amazing. This makes his quarter of the draw totally wide open. Ancic, Coria, Ferrero, Rusedski or Hrbaty could reach the semi-final.

According the Sky TV he has had some king of gastric bug since Sunday - the Doctors advised him not to play but he thought he would give it a go but couldn't manage.

I agree. And I wouldn't call it nice, either.

Be well, Lleyton

Hewitt called his doctor a "Poof" and then told him he was going to play anyways. Stupid "Poofs" what do they know anyways.

I'm pretty sure that the last time before today that Lleyton retired from a match was in 1998, when he turned his ankle while playing Agassi.

Hewitt called his doctor a "Poof" and then told him he was going to play anyways. Stupid "Poofs" what do they know anyways.

This isn't entirely correct. You see Lleyton went to the Dr. because he had diarrhea and vomiting, possibly from eating too much fish. The Dr. told him that he had gastroenteritis or the "stomach flu." Lleyton told him, "listen mate, how can my stomach have the flu and not the rest of my body? I want a second opinion." The physician told him, let me bring in my partner, to which Lleyton replied, "What is this some homo hospital? Do you need poof of insurance? I'm leaving, I'm not taking advice from a couple of poof-quacks." My girlfriend Lorraine's, cousin's neighbor's daughter, was on the cheerleading squad with a girl who works at the Dr.'s office, where Lleyton was seen. That's how I know.

Was I the only one thinking that Lleyton's shirt looked like the old England football shirt?

Crappy for Hewitt, but I am glad Florent had the slightest form of a window of opportunity

That's sad for him. I hope he gets better soon.

It seems like his quarter has really opened up to Ferrero or Ancic get into the semifinals. I think it's gonna be one of the two. Whoever wins might challenge Agassi, I just hope Baldy is strong enough to survive this field. He seems to me like the most probable player to win, but you can never count out this two, and mostly Roddick and Nadal.

I'm pretty sure that the last time before today that Lleyton retired from a match was in 1998, when he turned his ankle while playing Agassi.
I was pretty close:

Hewitt pulled out of his first round match against French qualifier Florent Serra with a stomach ailment while trailing 4-3 in the first set.

Hewitt said he considered not starting the match at all, and decided to give it a shot about 20 minutes before the start.

"I haven't been able to eat anything the last three or four days, which just really hit me up because I've got no energy whatsoever right at the moment," said Hewitt, who retired from a match for only the second time in 504 career singles matches and the first time since July 30, 1999.
