Tour de France just started, today there was first stage.yesterday in the prologue Lance Armstrong finished 7th,the winner was McGee and Ulrich did ride really well.also Simoni was great, considering that he isnt a time trial specialist.so what do ya think?Ulrich,Simoni,Beloki or someone else will be able to challenge King Lance?I hope not,cos Lance is my fave cyclist!
neway if u follow the Tour and want to exchange opinions, here is a thread for this! :)

The sprinters ruled the day today, with Petacchi (Fassa Bortolo) taking the first full stage of the centenary tour. There was a large crash within the last 500 meters, with numerous riders getting caught up in the carnage, Lance was caught up in it, but came through relatively unhurt. Tyler Hamilton with the bad luck of the day, a contender no longer in the race, a broken collar bone taking him out of the race.

I hope Amstrong won't win this year and i hope someone will fight with him because it was boring to know who will win after one , two mountain stages.

Today (Saturday) they start the mountains :D

Should be very interesting

Many say Lance will make a move today. My money is on someone like Botero or Mayo

I was waiting all week for today, because the mountains are the best part of the tour de France. C'mon Lance!

Richard Virenque won

He took the Yellow Jersey and the Polka-dot :clap2:

I never really liked him - seems too arrogant and full of himself - but he deserved the win and both jerseys.

Tomorrow will be a hell of a day

Yeah, it will be a hell of a day - pity British Eurosport coverage doesn't kick in until 3pm our time. I suppose we'll catch the ascent of l'Alpe d'Huez, but isn't there another major climb before that? Col du Galibier?
The mountains are the best bit!

 @ Eurosport

it is frustrating but quite understandble

Sunday is a motor sports day and motorsports are more popular in UK than cycling

Hmm...it's not only Sunday that gets ruined by motorsport - it's usually the whole frigging weekend, so I suppose I should be grateful for the amount of TdeF we got today!

I'm just not the grateful type! ;)

Then I'm happy that I can watch the Tour de France on three other channels too :)

I hope Lance or Michael Boogerd will win today. There are always lots of Dutch fans on the Alpe d'Huez, Dutch people often call it 'the Dutch mountain' because lot's of Dutch people did win there.

I would be happy for Boogerd and Rabobank if they get the stage today but Michael doesn't seem to be in very good shape

My bet is either Lance or a good climber who is out of the race for the Yellow Jersey (like Botero or Simoni). A pity the Pirate isn't here

yeah it's a shame that Eurosport coverage starts at 4 pm CET :fiery: I'm watching it on ARD though :p
I hope Lance will finally get the yellow jersey today :notworthy

Ivan Mayo won :bigclap:

Lance took the Yellow Jersey but did not look very convincing.

Perhaps he is showing signs of mortality ?

i didnt really understand if today was just a bad day for Lance and he did prefer to let Mayo go (considering that Mayo isnt that good in TT)...or maybe how u said Lance is showing sings of mortality.

GO LANCE GOOO!!!PLZ WIN UR 5TH TOUR!!! :)

Today should give a good indication as for Lance's form, although I don't think he will try to win it. Probably there will some escape group with someone like Botero or Simoni trying to win the stage.

Simoni is totally out of gas..he disappointed me a lot.i expected him to be a real threat on the mountains,as for botero, but they arent in a great shape right now.

Poor Beloki

Beloki's was the saddest thing.
We'll be having a completely different race from now on

yeah poor beloki  even tho i'm a big armstrong's fan,i hated to see beloki out in this way.

The thing is that Beloki surely was not going to beat Lance... but for us watching it, he was making the race look very interesting. :)

It's not only about the actual threat to Lance - it's mainly sad because this has been the first year that he was really really active - attacking all the time.

i think vinokourov can be dangerous as well, and maybe mayo on the pyrenees.but i still wonder what they both will do in time trial on friday...Lance's clearly the favourite and he said that will be the TT of his life so I'm sure he'll ride great.

Yoel etc.

Today is the Time Trial. Today some questions should be answered:

- Is Lance really less stronger this year or will he simply dimolish everybody in the TT?

- Will Mayo still be in contention after today?

Personally, I think (and hope) we are going to see good performances from Hamilton and Ulrich

Ullrich  Lance :(

Well, at least the tour is more interesting now...

Ulrich won in a breathtaking performance. It was simply incrdible. Lance looked in complete shock when he crossed the line.

I agree. It's been a long time since so few second were between #1 and #2 at this stage of the race. I think hell will break loose in Basqe land in the next few days.

Yoel etc.
07-20-2003, 07:27 PM
Well, hell didn't exactly break loose, although we had a nice fight between a few groups of riders.

Simoni :)

Nice ride by Vino and Mayo. I'll take a chance and say that tomorrow will be a very dramatic day.

I'd love that you were right, but I can't see Jan attacking, and I don't think Lance is able to attack... It's going to be all about (again) Vino and Euskaltel riders, and I hope Basso moves a bit too :o

Yoel etc.

In today's post-stage interview Lance said that he's going to be more aggressive tomorrow..

We'll simply have to wait and see... :lick:
