Yeah, it would be great if he could make the main draw in one of the two masters coming up (Montreal next week, and then Cincinatti the week after) would be great for his ranking and a good performance at either would really help push his case for a wildcard into the US open main draw as it looks unlikely his ranking will merit a direct place and he would obviously love to skip qualifying is possible!!

my dream is to see Andy playing in a TMS or the US Open this year, it would be awesome and probably nudge him along to even greater achievments next year!

Great draw, and i am sure Andy will be really excited about it!!! I can't wait!!!

He beat Dent at Queen's but this will be totally different. Still he knows he can match him so he has a good chance! Safin though in next round, bring it on! Would LOVE to see Andy take him on!!

Wow that draw sucks for Andy!!I mean ya he can beat Taylor but its still not going to be easy!!!And Marat is very tough!the only good news about him playing marat in the 2nd round is that they will show coverage of his match!

Duncan
08-14-2005, 10:07 PM
let's say he beats Dent in the 1st round..... Marat has been out for a while!

shyscots25
08-14-2005, 10:26 PM
hmmm one match at a time. dent has been in good form recently and will be all out for revenge and to put young Murray back in his proper place! Will be a tough match!

Andy can win, but against marat? Let's discuss that when he is through! Marat plays jan hernych (who beat Murray on his ATP debut in Barcelona).

Let's hope though! Any points picked up here would be great!!!

shyscots25
08-16-2005, 07:34 AM
the bookies have Dent as favourite, and if you look around you can get up to 4/1 for murray to win in straight sets.

It will be tough and very different than Queen's, but this is the challenge for Andy, can he continue his challenger form and mix it up with the big boys??

Never mind Safin, i think beating Dent for the second time would be a great achievement for Andy. It would also be the highest ranked player he has beaten off british soil...

Let's hope he can do it!!!

nah i checked the forecast showers expected this morning, should be ok this afternoon. however more showers forecast for thursday and it is supposed to be generally overcast all week. should be ok for play later but we will have to wait a little longer than we had hoped for Murray. Might be a late one after all!

What happened to your clock?

08-16-2005, 05:02 PM
Hiya Tim, I flew back from Florida yesterday and missed the night's sleep as I can't sleep on planes :(
I was cursing the timing of coming back when the draw came out thinking Murray vs Dent might be televised, but it looks like I'm saved the frustration of sitting watching the rain!
I hope they do play at some point later.

Great win.

Tennis was patchy - first set wasn't that impressive.

But 2 superb tiebreaks especially the second one which was fantastic tennis.

Not remotely confident about facing Safin on that form but who knows?

Duncan

I am, Marat was rusty to say the least after a few months out due to hisinjury

Great time to play and BEAT him

I didn't see the Safin match though I noticed he was on the verge of losing the first set only to recover a break at 5-4.

YAY!!! Well done Andy! Woo hoo! Congratulations!

Did any one see the match on TV? He said that he wasn't too pumped like he was at Wimbledon, and it must've worked for him to keep his concentration and win!

Marat...he is one of my favourites actually, but I think this win for Andy would be enormous for his confidence, and not to say, his ranking too! So c'mon Andy, show us what u got! ;)

He controlled himself really really well but did celebrate in the 2nd set breaker especially when he got himself the match point!

I watched his match, very enjoyable performance, and he has reigned in his actions a bit :) His post match comments were very mature & sensible :)

I hope he performs well against Marat today.

Good Luck Andy :D

We all hope he performs well. It would be AMAZING if he can win, but really we just want to see in his first meeting against a player at the top level the signs that when he is nearing more of a peak that he might be the equal (or better) of a Safin. Safin's serve isn't going to blow Murray away so it will be interesting to see how the rallies work out!!!

Where is Andy going next week? Anyone know?

shyscots25
08-18-2005, 08:38 AM
I was just wondering the same thing? IF he has to play US Open qualifying he won't be playing anywhere and he will just be resting up for that! Otherwise maybe he would get a WC for Pilot Pen??

After watching the match yesterday v safin it is clear his body is telling him its time for a rest. He looked a little low in that match and had the obvious problem with his shoulder which affected his serve. Rest up and be fully pumped up for the Open is the best thing he can do. He has been playing a lot of tennis, needs a wee break i think!

ClaycourtaZzZz.
08-18-2005, 10:37 AM
Oh, what a shame, 1-6 in the 3rd:eek: But 6-1 against Safin:woohoo: better than nothing!

Duncan

He does have to play the US Open qualifies, and anyway he would have been forced into taking a much needed rest as there aren't any Pilot Pen WCs available with people like Safin and Henman getting offered them.

stuey87
08-18-2005, 11:15 PM
he needs a break!!

He does that! No one should play every single week, especially on US hardcourts! :explode:

Shame he lost to Marat, but he's still developing and he should be top 100 after the USO I'm hoping.
