That would be horrible; but, at least he isn't rushing back like in 2003. The last thing he needs is to damage it more.

Get well soon, Marat.

No, please not :sobbing: :hysteric: I was afraid of this moment, but still hoping
Where did you see the interview?
What exactly did Tarpichev say?

I'm not believing this until I see what Safin says, and even that I'll take with a pinch of salt.

If it's true, it isn't that bad idea. Marat shines at indoor season and i don't want hm to rush anything

Let's hope Marat Safin has better doctors than Lina Krasnoroutskaya had. But so far not so good. What looked to be a glorious year for Safin is turning into an injury riddled year. :(

One thing is for sure, it's very hard for very tall tennis players to stay healthy.

But he really needs to take his time and get fully healed before coming back, soon hopefully. Poor Marat.

That sucks ugh!....he's such a great player and there'll be something definately missing without Safin there.

I've done a "google" search on this and also visted Marat's official site - and can't see anything about this at all. Like jtipson, - I tend not to believe it until I see a verified link to the article or hear more about the source. I certainly hope it's not true.

i thought Marat was having his knee worked on, not having a sex change :tape:

anyway i'm not believing anything Shamil says, the man doesn't know what he is talking about half the time, once it shows up on ms.com then i'll believe, well mostly anyway

Marat was supposed to start practicing on Monday and figure out his hardcourt season prospects after that . That is according his official website. If there was some good news, we would have heard from them already. I tend to think that Shamil got some feedback from Marat ( and he is very interested in Marat's prospects for Croatia, first of all ) that no one else has it. At this point I would bet 3 to 1 that Marat is not playing Canada.

ys, I believe that you are accurately reporting what you have learned :D. Only problem is, we have had contradicting info about Marat so much in the last year its hard to believe anything unless there is video of him saying it himself (and his official site has been wrong before too, sadly). I think that we should all just wait a little while and see if Marat issues a statement directly. It would be a shame if he misses the USO, he usually plays well there.

Thanks Kosm. And for those people who want to see it, - here is the link to the report (in Russian):-
http://www.rian.ru/sport/tennis/

It basically says exactly what ys has told us - that Tarpischev says Marat will not be well enough to play  From reading a few other things on this site, it seems that Marat started training seriously again on Monday this week, and he was just waiting and hoping that things would be OK after a few days practice - but seems that he is not 100% yet

does it say whether he will back for us open?

I read this as it says he won't be ready , but several people have pointed out that a more true and exact translation would be that he MAY NOT be ready - nothing definate - and it is all Tarpischev's opinion anyway!

Adman

With that happening that leaves Federer open to take the title really but the only other person who could stop him is Nadal.

The only thing I would say is that from scanning this website, there is nothing said by Marat himself - nor by Peter Lundgren. As someone here said earlier, Tarpischev can be full of **** at times, - so perhaps don't get too despondant until we hear something from Marat himself.

Well, do not overdramatize it just yet.. Tarpishev said MAY , not WILL. I still think that the chances are that Marat will play US Open. But very little chance for him to play any warmups, it seems.

OK thanks - my understanding of the written word is very rusty these days - I certainly read it that he won't be there - but as I said - this is only what Tarpischev is saying - not Marat himself. Think I will edit my original post in case it scares anyone unnecessaily!
