Armando? Will do, if I see him. So long as he does not coincide with Chadaj or Mahut :p I know somebody else who might appreciate it, not that he ever does me any favours

I will remember to watch Del Potro if I can too :)

Don't think I've seen Squillari live, so why not him too.

I can keep track of who I see and make lame reports when i return, but only if there is interest.

I'm goin on Thurs. and Fri. of qualies (as well as Mon-Wed. of the next week), so I'll try to take random pics and maybe some videos as well. I'm finally getting a computer at home, so I'll be to post them after I get back.

Anyone want to give me suggestions on who I should see play? (Assuming they make it past the first round, of course.)

Not really, only the 9 main draw wildcards help Mankad, not the qualies wildcards, which will be to players below him, which means no spots clear ahead of him.

As of now the cut has fallen 6 spots. I see some 8 to 10 or so US players in the qualifying lists who are candidates for the 9 main draw wildcard spots (well, actually 8 because one goes to the US 18s champion; perhaps USTA may give one to someone like Andy Murray or somebody on a trade with wimbledon or something too). I expect at least 5 or so of the US players to go to main draw from the qualifying list with wildcards. Harsh Mankad is 6 out right now, and looks pretty safe to make it in when the USTA announces the wildcards (today or tomorrow, right?), or pretty soon after.

The next two main draw withdrawals would not affect the qualies list, because those are players who did not put in their names for qualies (sargsian, draper), but there could still be some 3-4 main draw withdrawlas that could put somebody like Bjorkman and Vik into the main draw and out of the qualies too. Finally, anybody who plays the New Haven qualies from the USO Q list and makes it into New Haven main draw, would also be removed from the USO Q (there could be 1 or 2 like that, possibly).

The cut should be dropping to at least about the 13th to 15th spot in the qualifying ALT list when all is said and done.

jayakris

Qualies draw comes out Monday night 8 or 9 pm in NY but we may not know till ITF gets it posted it at the US Open site. ATP is not the one that posts the grand slam draws, so it may not be as prompt. But in recent slams the official website has posted the draws within a couple of hours of making it, the nigh before the qualies starts.

No, it just means they're out of the qualifying draw. In Philippoussis and Blake's cases they are OUT because they got wildcards and they're playing in the main draw.

Yay, Marray and Smeets got in :D
I guess with today being the last day before play it's pretty unrealistic to hold out hope for Auckland as well?

Hard to say actually. Even though there is an entry list, the players still have to show up on site today and sign in before the draw is made, so there could still be some movement on the list in the last hour. Don't laugh, but it happened in 2004. Robert Kendrick flew all the way to Australia and for whatever reason, forgot to go down and sign in so he was taken out of the qualie draw. He would have been seeded too.

Yeah, I forgot earlier that Auckland had entered a challenger this week. Thanks smucav for the confirmation.

That is not correct, fee. The ones who will make cut by late this evening do not need to sign in. They will be autromatically put in the draw. They only need to show up whenever their match is scheduled tomorrow.

For those who miss the cut by this evening and hopes to get in due to any no-shows in the list will need to go and sign in by tomorrow morning, an hour before play starts. They need to do it again on Tuesday too.

The Q entry list and its ALT list are dead as of when they make the draw this evening (well, actually if anybody who is in the Q draw tonight calls in and withdraws by tomorrow morning, they would redo the draw using the Q list - otherwise the list is inactive once the Q draw is made). But ANYBODY can sign in tomorrow morning and wait for a no-show though. Whoever has the highest rank (as of last week) will get the first ALT spot if somebody who is in the draw and schedule doesn't show up. There have been cases where some player simply forgot to enter the Q list three weeks back and had to go sign-in for an ALT spot (The same with somebody who expected to make the main draw, was close to the cut, and did not enter the qualies

Harsh Mankad ended up as the next in by monday night when the draw was made last year at the US Open. He waited for two days and there wasn't a no-show in the Q1 round. Everybody who was in the Q draw showed up for their matches. Sme of them came late Tuesday and played!

Sargsian, Draper and DiMauro and Hehnel are the #1, #3, #5 and #8 in the waiting list for the main draw. If any of them fears that the main draw will not fall that far, they can decide to go in and sign-in tomorrow morning for qualies and wait to be the ALT...

But those who are in the list for qualies and make the cut by this evening will be in the draw and do not have to sign-in. The players do not need to be there today for anything. They will make the draw from the list.

Thanks for the information Jay. Now I need you to explain something to me. What happened to Kendrick that year (I'm pretty sure it was 2004)? I was told that story by another player, and the words he used were 'sign in'. He didn't say that Kendrick forgot to enter, so I am guessing that he was on the qualie entry list, and he would have been a high seed based on his ranking at that time. He was in Australia, he was highly ranked at the time (for him, about 112 I think), but he was not in the draw. Do you have any way to get more info about this? Thanks (as always). :D

ohh JMDP plays Ramon Delgado in the first round. I think he can win this match if he doesn't get scared it's the Grand Slam though. And I remember Delgado playing very smoothly at the US. C'mon Juan Martin anyways.

Fee -- I am not sure where exactly that could have happened. Kendrick was in the 2002 USO qualifying draw, 2003 main draw (wildcard) and in the 2004 qualifying draw..

It was the Aus Open, that's what made the story so funny. He flew all the way down there for qualies, then didn't play his match. I wasn't told that he overslept or anything like that, I am sure the words "sign in" were part of the story. If I see the player who told me ever again, I'll try to get more info because now I am very curious about it all, based on the info you gave me. I really thought that Slam qualie draw players had to check in or sign in, or something. Learned something new from you, once again. :D
