I have a picture of Verkerk on my conputer, I made it myself... but I can post it here  Because...
1) the file is too big

Anyone have his schedule?

sam
07-11-2003, 12:10 PM
He's playing in the Dutch Open and the two masters series.
I suspect he'll play Indianappolis because he got to the qs last year.

Martin Is Awesome. I was a ballgirl for him last november at a challenger, and it was sooo weird to turn on the frnch open final knowing that someone I handed tennis balls to less than a year ago was in it!

He's quiet, but he's very nice

Sam do you have internet problem? I know you are using computer in school.

sam
08-15-2003, 01:52 PM
What do you mean?
I have very limited internet access. When I'm at school I get about 5 hours a week. At the moment I go to the library and when i can afford it, internet cafes, so only get about 2-3 hours a week.

sam

Martin won a match in Montreal, over Sargisan, then lost to Kucera in 2 tiebreaks. He also lost 1st round Cincinatti. Let's hope he plays better @ the US Open.

Wojtek
08-17-2003, 08:32 AM
I hope he will better in US. His season after RG is one side downhill.

sam
08-19-2003, 12:17 PM
After a good tournament usually comes a slump for an unexperienced player like martin.

sam
08-22-2003, 12:35 PM
Here is Martin's part of the draw where he is seeded 16th:

Ferreira(Seed) V Miranda
Ginepri V Ferrer
Yim v Todd Martin
Bogomolov (WC) V VERKERK.

I think that getting to the 3rd round would be an excellent result, especially with old Martin lurking around.

sam
08-26-2003, 02:34 PM
Martin won his first match. The score was 7-6, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 retired.
He plays Todd Martin in the next round.

sam
08-28-2003, 12:34 PM
It's getting a little lonely round here!!
Martin plays Todd Martin tonight. He and raemon Sluiter are alsoplaying doubles. They won their first round match 6-4,6-2 over Martin/Massu.

sam
08-28-2003, 12:35 PM
BTW, in the 2nd round they play the no.8 seeds Damn/ Suk. Good luck, guys!!

sam
10-23-2003, 04:06 PM
Martin lost to Tim Henman quite easily.

However...............he and James Blake beat the top seeds in their first round doubles match 6-3, 7-5. The Bryan brothers were well beaten. In the next round they play Humphries and Meklein.
Go guys!! :)

sam
10-30-2003, 04:41 PM
Martin is in round 3 of Paris; he beat dominik Hrbaty. :) He next plays Roger Federer, which is winnable, especially after the shock upset iof the world number 1!

Jazzy
01-17-2004, 07:58 AM
dizziness, that's odd?!?

Claire007
01-17-2004, 08:44 AM
Yeah I know...
And have you heard about Carlos Moya.
He also gave up the match against Leyton Hewit...
So Leyton Hewit has won the tournament in Sydney...

I don't know if it is said before in this tread or somewhere else, but I heard today that Martin Verkerk probably isn't able to play in Melbourne Australian Open.. *dissapionted*

Lizan
01-20-2004, 09:53 AM

Claire007
01-20-2004, 10:41 AM

sam
02-12-2004, 03:41 PM
Martin won both his singles matches in the Davis Cup match against Holland, 4 setters. He and haarhuis lost the dubs because Haarhuis retired. Well done. martin! More wins= more confidence :D

sam
02-12-2004, 03:44 PM
Martin beat Sanguinetti 7-6, 6-4 in the first round of his defence of his title in Italy. A very good win against a dangerous floater.

sam
02-18-2004, 09:54 AM
Martin lost in the first round of the Rotterdam tournament   , a vert tight match against Niemenen.

sam
03-01-2004, 02:10 PM
He plays in scottsdale this week. He's the number 2 seed and plays a qualifier. He must win some matches here!!!!

stephB
03-01-2004, 05:30 PM
and he plays double. together with john... :)

sam
03-06-2004, 01:07 PM
Martin got to the quarters of the scottsdale tournie. He lost to Victor Hanescu, which i think is a pretty bad loss; however, he did have to finsih his second round match earlier in the day.

CooCooCachoo
03-07-2004, 11:22 AM
No excuse, really. Victor Hanescu is a poor player, but he is improving for sure. But he lost to Kiefer in the semis, so that is not good either. A consistent top 20 player should beat Hanescu, in my opinion.

Lizan
03-26-2004, 01:05 PM

05-03-2004, 08:43 AM
Martin played very good! Davydenko was standing 2.5 meters near the baseline. That is the reason why Martin has so little aces. But he is coming up and hopefully he plays well in Rome against Martin!

Flokkr
05-03-2004, 12:48 PM

It's funny though, Martin vs. Verkerk.

05-30-2004, 09:52 AM
Sad that he went out vs Hewitt. He's a great guy... unlike Hewitt ;)

Flokkr
05-30-2004, 11:45 AM
I really dont like Hewitt's behavior on court. I'll never deny his strength, he runs for every point he can get, but he is so annoying. If I hear his 'Come on' once more I think I'll have to kill him. ;)
It's sad for Verkerk, he had some trouble with his leg in the doubles match on Friday but he continued playing. Well, there's nothing left to loose for him. No more pressure.

is Marting going to play in Toronto TMS ?
if so should he play in qualies ??

Snoopy_Girl
07-21-2004, 02:57 PM
Martin in qualies of a TMS? I think he's automatically accepted with his ranking :p... According to his official site (www.martinverkerk.nl) he is supposed to play Toronto.

zik013
07-22-2004, 02:19 AM
if he want play this tournament he must play in qualification. look in entry list http://canada.masters-series.com/1007/news/news4692_rx.asp - i don`t see verkerk

Q entry deadline 5 july. in Q can play top 28 players+4 WC. look in atp ranking from 5 july http://stevegtennis.com/rankings/2004/s070504.htm - verkerk occupy five place (after ancic, mayer, enqvist and volandri).

Snoopy_Girl
07-22-2004, 07:26 AM
Well...then he is playing qualies... Might be cuz they made the entry list a while ago when Verkerk just lost his top 50 position after RG... Cuz since his Amersfoort win last week, he is top 50 again.

Snoopy_Girl

As for Martin playing Toronto.. he cancelled his Toronto plans.. This week, he already had to gave his second round opponent in the Hilversum Challenger a walkover cuz of a chest/shoulder muscle injury. Now it seems he won't be playing TMS Toronto either..

Dutchie
07-23-2004, 09:20 PM
They will make a new photo of the muscle over two weeks to see if he can play at the olympic games...fingers crossed!

Wojtek
02-28-2005, 05:48 AM
When he will come back?

Gosjke
02-28-2005, 11:02 AM
I thought somewhere in April... He recently announced that he was gonna postpone his comeback another month, because he has an inflammation somewhere around his collarbone. The operation was succesful though, so he should come back around April...

Wojtek
05-04-2005, 07:49 AM
any news?

Gosjke
05-04-2005, 09:18 AM
As far as I know he had some surgery done on the same shoulder again at the 28th of March. If and only if the whole thing was a success he MIGHT be playing again after about 4 months (according to the man himself). So it's all just guessing at this stage I think...
That's the only news I heard, don't know if any of the other (more diehard maybe ;))dutchies heard something.
Hope that helps :)

He won't play in Amersfoort nor the US Open. His first goal is the Australian Open, according to some papers earlier this week.

It would be awesome to have him back, even though he lacked good results since his RG final appearance surprise, he was very interesting to watch for me because he showed lots of emotions, I was a big fan of his great serve, had quite a powerful overall game :yeah:

He's comming back in 2006!!! :) Expect to see him at the Australian Open for sure!!!! :D
I read in an article last week that he is training fully at the moment and everything is OK again with his shoulder! He could play tournaments right now, but he decided to train some more before making a comeback as it's the end of the season anyway. As soon as he returns, Martin has a protected ranking of about 38 or something for a while. It was also mentioned he wished he could play at the Hopman cup in preparation for the AO, but they offered the place to Wessels first. Anyway, he's ready!

Go Martin! :yeah:

Verkerk verheugt zich op rentree
08-12-2006

could you please say in English or German what is included in the article? I'm really glad to see Verkerk back on the tour; hopefully he will not get injured again

The bottom line is:

After years of injurie ( pfeiffer and shoulder ) martin verkerk will play again in 2007, There were some times when he thought about quitting the game (when he played in naples). He met an alternative healer due to Bettine Vriesekoop ( tabletennis ) and that guy said Martin needer a period of three months with total rest. but that isn't in Martin Character just like guys as Body Miller and Marat Safin, he wants to live life. The split up with his coach was for money reasons. Nick Carr learned martin all the things he needs to know to play professional tennis on a high level and he claims he is wiser than before. The australian open is the first tournament of his SE tournaments. Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome and Roland Garros will follow, the others are to decide.

No worries

Martin Verkerk is back in Ahoy. The former 10th in the world ranking worked through a training session on the side courts with the Spaniard Ferrer. Im happy to be back in the Netherlands on a tennis court.

Verkerk was on the sidelines for a long time with various injuries. Tournament director Richard Krajicek handed him a wildcard for the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament Friday night. Former Davis Cup captain Tjerk Bogtstra is coaching Verkerk in Rotterdam: Its great having Tjerk here on the sidelines. Hes able to give me tips on things like my toss. Physically, well just have to wait and see how things go, but Im not worried about my shoulder. I put in plenty of hard work in America in the last few weeks. Theyve got good training facilities, so Im very satisfied with that. On the other hand, it is great being back in the Netherlands. Id been away for ten weeks and that feels like a long time. The lights on the training court did take a bit of getting used to. I felt like I was in a disco.

Groeten,

Martin

The future bring futures...I found his name in the $10K Nuernberg F17 futures draw this week, where he received a wildcard. He has dropped to the lowest level but I'm sure he will win a few matches here. It's about time of course with a 0-11 (1-22 sets) record this year.

What now, seniors? :)

To be fair Martin Vacek was probably the worst possible draw, he has been on fire in futures recently.

In a reaction to the news of Sluiters last tournament in Rotterdam. Verkerk says: I won't quit, I will play a tournament in 3 weeks, My fitness coach said to me to wait. I wanted to play earlier. I lost 20 pounds and I am faster then last year. He loves to play again

It still is a strange dude, after saying the things posted earlier. He now says he hasn't got motivation to come back beceause he understands finally that it won't be as a top 20 player. He doesn't want to be a 80-120 player

That's an interesting interview, he said he was out of shape and built up his physical condition in the US during a few months in the US, lost 12kg (25 pounds). He said he found it tough at the beginning to admit to playing futures/challengers again. Sounds like he was in a real psychological crisis at some point in the last few years, he mentioned isolating himself and being on the booze for a period.

Mardy won't play for twee weeks, only training in the states, then maybe a wild card for Poertschach. No
Roland Garros qualies in that case, He says he rather plays an atp event and that he wants to be a direct entrance next year

After his loss last week in Portschach against Vanek in 3 sets, where he showed at least not being too far away from the ATP level, he reached the SF in Karlsruhe, with again some good wins over topplayers in the challenger circuit! Today he defeated Munoz-de la Nava. Next match tomorrow against Kamke or Ferreiro. Of course, everything is possible, and a win here might put him into the top 300!! Come on, Martin, you can do it!
