Hi Miss!!
Thanks for a nice pic! by the way - where and when was it made? :)
Also thanks for the info! I am just wondering, why is he this way (I am about his character)?there should be some reason -is it a form of star sick (which I hope not) or a sign of not confident person or something else??? (I have no idea, maybe u have some thoughts on this question) I guess he makes friends only with other swedish players like T.Johanson and S.Aspelin. But I've never seen him with a girl...i guess if she existed we would see her somewhere! As I can see he is very related to his family and to tennis! It seems that it is all he needs! :)

Hi Little Eva;)

U're welcome about the pix:)it was in Goteborg for the Davis Cup this year in April(on 8th).So,I don't think it's a star sick but u're right, exactly what u said:lack of confidence. In fact it's strange cause on the one hand he seems to think that he's better than everyone even if it's wrong and on the other one the entire contrary.Perhaps if he had more good friends OUT OF TENNIS COURTS who give him more assurance he would be different or better...He isn't veru open minded so it's dificult to have some relations with him cause he's not very talkative too...about girls,he was with a stockholm girl called Tilda Rosen some years ago but that's not the case anymore.
hum he's very very unknown when he wants...u can see all that on my blog if u want^^
u're right,he has his family, his coach and tennis and he seems not to need ther thing.i'm angry with him many time cause he's very difficult but i think he only shows one side of his personnality,he can be so sweet when he wants.
take care Eva xx

what u didn't like in his behavior and why did u change ur mind?Hum...i think it's easy to understand!!he's so...hum..not very talkative and especially he doesn't trust anyone lol and...and...and...he's a difficult one that's all.And i changed my mind cause...i can't say sorry,it's the same question than before:)

lol Hi Eva!hope u're fine sweetie.And that's a pity but that's life.especially cause I think it's must be different with Robin.but it's done and congratulations to US!

Well, yeah I play tennis in high competition.I have already played Les petits as de Tarbes and Les raquettes d'Or de Dijon when I was younger but I've never been very gifted or...lucky I don't know-in international competions.I played at the Racing Club de France for the Paris Cadet but I played vs a very great player this day I can say.

Now,I have less time for the tour but I'm gonna to play more tournaments this year to have a better ranking and next year I wanna go to US fo my studies and...play tennis a little more, especially in universities.

And u??

hi Miss!
I was searching for some news about DC and came across an article which was made during DC 1/4 final (Sweden-Argentina):
For Sweden’s Robin Soderling, the tie is like a homecoming. “I’ll have my family, friends and girlfriend in the stands,” said Soderling, who played club tennis for Goteborg’s Royal Lawn Tennis Club and lived two years in Sweden’s second largest city.
I guess he has found a new gf?

In Sunday’s final Llodra will face Swede Robin Soderling, who took just 50 minutes to oust Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-1. Llodra and Soderling will be facing off for the first time.

Soderling converted on all five of his break point opportunities, while dropping just seven points on serve throughout the match to improve his lifetime record against Simon to 2-1. He also snapped his six match losing streak in ATP semifinals.

The 23-year-old will be appearing in his sixth career ATP final and his first since Memphis two years ago. He has a 2-3 record in ATP finals, titling in 2004 at Lyon and in 2005 at Milan.

Soderling reached the Marseille quarterfinals last week in his first event of the 2008 season. It marked his first tournament in six months - he retired from his first match at the Rogers Masters in Canada last August due to a left wrist injury - during which time his ranking slipped from No. 28 to No. 59 this week, his lowest since April 2006.

Simon, currently ranked No. 36, was looking to reach his fourth career ATP final. He now has a 5-5 record for the season, with one of his wins coming against World No. 3 Novak Djokovic last week en route to the Marseille quarterfinals.

I also fears Tiebreaks a lot!!! Even at Robin!

Kristen
02-29-2008, 09:32 AM
lol, his opponents are good! In Rotterdam everyone he played was ranked above him. Then in Marseille he beat Jarkko who is as awesome as they get, lol, as well as Gasquet and Ancic who are either allegedly good / or at least were. Ancic is/was coached by Rosengren so of course he's gonna be good ;)

I don't have a good memory. I went here:
http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/playeractivity.asp?player=SA49

But when I saw a couple of Hanescu's matches in January, yeah, I thought he was a little on the crap side and didn't know how he maintained a decent [by my standards] ranking. Let's hope the match was enough practice for the next round :p

EDIT: That 'drool' was originally for 'husband' Rosengren, but can be applied either way. I like a smart man, even if he can't coordinate the simple task of wearing white undies with white shorts. I cannot stress how important this is :o :bolt:

He again lost in a final. That is very sad. I hoped really for the title here, after he beat Roddick and Stepanek. And i hate it, if my favs lose in finals. And he was favourite vs Darcis. There was Jonas closer...:)

But another nice week, do not know how long he can play on this level without taking a break!

swedes_rule
03-02-2008, 10:16 PM
Its very frustrating for him to lose two finals in a row after playing so well at both tournaments :( I'm sure he'll get there eventually though - these good results will help his ranking and then he can start getting seeded at tournaments again.

i do not think so. He has played 13 matches in just 3 weeks, thats a lot for a player who has not played official matches since 6 months.

From this website (http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/mar/02/no-headline---2008-03-01-233909733108/).

Sweden rising?
After producing a stream of top tennis talent in the 1970s and 1980s -- from world No. 1s Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg -- Sweden finds itself struggling to return to prominence. The country is without a player in the top 40 and has only three inside the top 100.

Robin Soderling and Jonas Bjorkman, ranked 42nd and 85th in the world, are trying to stage a rally in the first few months of the year. Soderling reached the finals of last week's Tour event in Rotterdam and Bjorkman reached the semifinals in the RMKC. Veteran Thomas Johansson, the 2002 Australian Open champion, is ranked 54th.

'Jonas is playing good again, he won some really tough matches here,' Soderling said of the 35-year-old Bjorkman, a former world top 5. 'We are the only three left since (Joachim Johansson, the 2004 Memphis champion) retired.
'Thomas and Jonas have played for a long time. They are probably not playing that many years more.'

Soderling is the only member of the trio under 25 years old. Later this month, Johansson turns 33 and Bjorkman 36.

"I've heard we have some good juniors,' Soderling said. 'They are maybe 13-, 14- or 15-year olds. Maybe in four or five years they'll be on tour.'

Robin's form is amazing. He can go to the end. But don't be so sure he will play to Federer. Ancic is really working hard(6 hours a day) and is ready to beat Roger finally. So who ever comes in Last 16 from that match could be really tired after big fite. That should give Robin a good chane for QF.

Biofile: The Robin Soderling Interview

One of Robin Soderling's fondest tennis memories dates back to the day he faced Stefan Edberg, Magnus Larsson and Pete Sampras in succession — and watched intently as each man made his mark in Soderling's psyche.

"My first memory from tennis is actually when I was in Sweden and I went to, I think it was Gothenborg and I watched Sweden play the U.S. in Davis Cup. That's maybe my first memory from tennis," Soderling recalls. "And it was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Yeah I was there. I didn't even really remember who was playing but I enjoyed it a lot. The big arena, the big crowd, I was running around there collecting autographs. So it was really a nice memory. I think I have Edberg and Larsson (autographs) at home. And I also think I have one from Sampras as well."

A dangerous player indoors because he can serve big and generate substantial pace off his fast, flat ground strokes, Soderling reached successive indoor finals in Rotterdam and Memphis in February beating Marcos Baghdatis, Fernando Verdasco, Andreas Seppi, Gilles Simon, Andy Roddick and Radek Stepanek along the way.

The 49th-ranked Swede owns two career tournament titles — the 2004 Lyon and 2005 Milan — and has scored wins over Nikolay Davydenko, Richard Gasquet and David Ferrer.

Scoop Malinowski caught up with Soderling for this Biofile interview.

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 180 pounds.

Born On: August 14, 1984 in Tibro, Sweden.

Tennis Inspirations: "When I was younger I liked to watch a lot of tennis, I watch a lot of matches. But I didn't really have a hero. Of course I liked the Swedes. But I think I liked more the game."

Hobbies/Interests: "I like to watch sports on TV. Especially I like to watch table tennis — my dad used to play. And I like the sport, it's a fun game. Also ice hockey and soccer."

Nicknames: "No, not that I know [smiles]."

Favorite Movies: "My favorites are Gladiator and Scarface [smiles]."

Favorite TV Shows: "No, I'm traveling a lot. I cannot watch that many TV shows. I liked to watch TV shows when I was younger back home in Sweden."

Musical Tastes: "I like a lot of music. Almost everything. Like to listen to music, so almost everything."

Early Tennis Memory: "My first memory from tennis is actually when I was in Sweden and I went to, I think it was Gothenborg and I watched Sweden play the U.S. in Davis Cup. That's maybe my first memory from tennis. And it was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Yeah I was there. I didn't even really remember who was playing but I enjoyed it a lot. The big arena, the big crowd, I was running around there collecting autographs. So it was really a nice memory. (Which autographs did you get?) I think I have Edberg and Larsson at home. And I also think I have one from Sampras as well."

Pre-Match Feeling: "I'm often a little bit nervous before the match. Because I think you have to be a little bit nervous to perform your best. But I got used to it. You know, you play a lot of matches. When I was — a couple of years ago — I'd get very angry and sad after I lost the match. But now maybe one hour after match I start focusing on the next tournament. You know, that's what you have to do."

Favorite Meal: "I like spaghetti with meatballs."

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Chocolate."

Current Car: "BMW (silver)."

Greatest Sports Moment: "For me...first ATP title in Lyon (defeated Xavier Malisse in 2004). And when I won the Swedish championships for juniors when I was 11. That was a great feeling. I think I won the final 4 and 4. And I was very happy after that match. It was the first time I played the Swedish championships and I won it so I was very happy."

Most Painful Moment: "It's actually when I lost 7-6 against Fish in the final in the Stockholm Open (2003)."

Closest ATP Friends: "It's the Swedish players. I'm a good friend with all the Swedes. We all like to hang out together and they're all nice guys."

Funniest Players Encountered: "Funniest...ooooh, that's a tough one. Safin, he's funny. He's always relaxed, I think he has a laid back attitude and he's not taking too seriously. He's very funny guy."

Toughest Competitors: "Everyone. I played Srichaphan two times and he killed me both times. Before he became injured he was a really good player."

Funny Tennis Memory: "Don't remember. I'm not sure."

People Qualities Most Admired: "People that are nice. Especially in tennis, as I said about Safin. He's not taking it too seriously. But he of course, people likes to win and practice hard but then they're not taking it too seriously. It's not life and death."

GRAND PRIX DE TENNIS DE LYON
Lyon, Russia

October 26, 2008
Soderling Captures Third Career ATP Title

© AFP/Getty Images
Robin SoderlingRobin Soderling (pictured) ended nearly a three-year ATP title drought by Sweden after capturing his second Lyon trophy on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 win over Frenchman Julien Benneteau.

The last Swede to win an ATP title had been Thomas Johansson at St. Petersburg (d. Kiefer) on October 30, 2005. Since that date, Sweden had gone 0-7 in finals.

Soderling will break into the Top 20 of the South African Airways ATP Rankings for the first time, at around No. 18 or No. 19, on Monday. His career-high is No. 23 (January 8, 2007).

"As a player you always have the goal to reach the Top 100," said Soderling. "Once you get there, you want to get to the Top 50. Reaching the Top 20 feels great. It has been my goal for two or three years.”

The seventh seed, who won his first ATP trophy at Lyon in 2004 (d. Malisse), broke Benneteau four times to capture the third trophy of his career in one hour and 43 minutes. He also won at Milan in 2005 (d. Stepanek).

The 24-year-old improved to 44-20 on the season, which includes three runner-up finishes at Rotterdam (l. to Llodra), Memphis (l. to Darcis) and Stockholm (l. to Nalbandian) two weeks ago. He has a 22-6 mark indoors.

"I lost three finals this season so I'm very happy to finally win one," said Soderling. "You really have to be consistent and play well during a whole week to win a tournament. I'm glad that I made it this week.

"Lyon is a special place for me since I won my first title here in 2004. I think that I'm more consistent now than back then. I move better and my defense has improved as well."

This week Soderling posted back-to-back Top 10 wins in the quarterfinals over No. 7 Andy Roddick and No. 10 Gilles Simon, both of whom have yet to clinch their places at Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai.

The 26-year-old Benneteau reached his maiden ATP final at Casablanca (d. Simon) in May. He dropped to 22-20 on the season. Next week he will move to around No. 46 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. His career-high is No. 35 (May 21, 2007).

"If somebody told me at the beginning of the week that I would be losing the final in three sets I would have been more than happy,” said Benneteau. “But I'm still disappointed because it really could have been the perfect day for me today. Winning my first title in Lyon close to my hometown would have been unbelievable.

"Robin is one of the best players indoors. If I played him outdoors, on clay with some wind it might have been a different story."

Soderling received 225 South African Airways ATP Rankings points (45 Race points) and €115,500 while Benneteau collected 155 points (31 Race points) and €62,400

SODERLING WINS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

Robin Soderling was on a mission this week and he accomplished what he came to do at the BMW Tennis Championship. He regained his confidence and claimed his first title in 2009 defeating top seed Tomas Berdych 6-1, 6-1.

As the No. 26 ranked player, Soderling expected to be playing this week deep into the late rounds of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells (CA) and then off to Key Biscayne for the Sony Ericsson. After earning a first round bye he lost his opening round match to Nicolas Lapenti and his plans took a major turn. Instead of third round match in California, he was off to the BMW Tennis Championship and needed to win three qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main draw.

The seven matches he played leading up to the finals must have been the prescription he needed to gain his confidence as he dominated Berdych needing less than an hour to claim the straight set win. Soderling didn't drop a service game and blasted seven aces. He also capitalized on capturing five of eight break point opportunities.

"Today I played almost a perfect match," said Soderling. "I wish I can play like this all the time."

Soderling led 5-0 in the first set before closing out the set 6-1. The only time Berdych challenged was the fourth game of the second set when he had the opportunity to tie the set at 2-2. Soderling saved two break point opportunities to go up 3-1 and knew he was on his way cruising the rest of the way winning the remaining games.

"When you play a good player there is always one point in a match when they can turn it around," added Soderling. "There was almost that moment and when he didn't take it I got up 3-1 and knew that was it."

Berdych was very upbeat after the loss knowing he faced a player at his best and that he also accomplished what he wanted to lead into the Sony Ericsson.

"He [Soderling] was playing so solid from the baseline," said Berdych. "He didn't make many mistakes. But I played five matches this week and it was good for my confidence."

Both players had to play two matches today due to the rainout of play on Saturday. Soderling defeated No. 3 seed Feliciano Lopez in his semifinal match 6-4, 6-4. Berdych cruised past Janko Tipsarevic 6-0, 6-4 in less than an hour.

The championship matchup included a number of firsts including the first time a number one seed and a qualifier advanced to the finals of the BMW Tennis Championship. Additionally, an ATP spokesman reported that no other finals in the challenger series has ever had two players ranked this high. Berdych entered the week ranked No. 22 and Soderling was No. 26.

Bingo. Remove Jonas from the mantle. For sacrificious reasons leave it there as a shrine but will there ever be another post in it again?.

Soderling is the future of Swedish Tennis. Sweden has finally produced something special since the time of Bjorkman & Johansson. With Bjorkman in a wheel chair and Tojo with a walking stick.

Berta also has potential but I don't think he will be anything super special. could crack top 100 one day.

I mean, everytime they asked for his forum we got more than 15 "yes" but he never go it. Of course he may not be so popular, but if that´s the problem I would post there every tournament. He is on a good ranking now and he has 3 titles. I mean, he´s still young also and the only top swede player. This winter I think he ll get his.

originally i liked him because he's swedish but I STILL like him because of who he is - he was really fantastic with me in brisbane this year :) i think most people dont like him because he can be a bit immature at times and doesnt always have a fantastic attitude, but his coach is working on that and i think (based on what i saw in aus in jan) it is really improving.

From Dusseldorf website...
Germany has suffered a bad setback in the battle to make it to the final of the ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP 2009. Germany’s No. 1 lost the duel against the Swedish top player Robin Soderling 0-6, 0-6. With comparison to Rainer Schuettler’s strong performance against Gilles Simon on Tuesday, the “shaker” seems completely different. He didn’t find his rhythm and seemed completely lost in the match against Soderling who is better ranked by four places. As intended, Soderling mainly made the points with his forehand and won his seventh singles match in a row at the Rochusclub, sending his opponent off the court without even capturing a single game. Only once before in the history of the ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP did a player lose without winning a single game. In 1987, the German, Damir Keretic beat the Australian player Paul McNamee 6-0, 6-0. Your memory is not totally accurate. He crushed Monaco in the 1st round and then Capdeville in the 2nd. He took the first set against Benneteau in the 3rd round 6-1, had a couple of setpoints in the second set, but went on to lose it in a tiebreaker, completely lost his head, and then only took one game in the last two sets.
