Good luck Robin :yeah:
hope the knee is OK

10-29-2004, 08:28 PM
He has not withdrawn so far, so i really think, he is ready to play. Bad stories at the moment, Norman retiring from Tennis. Söderling has a wounded knee, Pimpim had to retire against Ryderstedt....not so good news!

it looks like Swedes can not win TB :(
Robin u should have won the match :smash:

It really seems so, it was the 6th match of a swede in last 5 weeks that was 3rd set tiebreak, and only ToJo could win this one vs Agassi (a big one :) )

Robin had this match vs Volandri with 2 MP's and now vs Mirnyi. He should have won both. Better next year Robin! Unbelievable that this guy is out of the Top 30 in the rankings, he is playing so much better!

12-15-2004, 03:46 AM
found a new pic of Robin... well, it's from 2002 when he was a junior, and it's crappy quality, but i thought i'd post it.

Hi Swede fans!

Last year when we went to the Australian Open we got to see Soderling play ......I think it was Escude.

We noticed........well, we couldn't help but notice *grins* the Swedish cheering squad. They were unreal! My two daughters and I found them very entertaining. There was one guy who kind of 'led the pack'. He'd stand up and start shouting a cheer in Swedish and then the rest of them would join in. It was a real sight to see. Brilliant.

Anyway, tomorrow Soderling is playing and my 14 year old daughter is going to the open and would like to see him......and hopefully...the cheer squad. He is playing on court 18, against Dominik Hrbaty (who my fav. player Sebastien grosjean beat last year in the fourth round *grins*) Allez Seb! (sorry!)

Ahem...anyway, we were wondering if you guys know who these Swedish cheering people are and whether they'll be cheering Soderling like they did last year.

She hopes to get a seat right near them.

Please reply a.s.a.p

Oh yeah.....and GO SODERLING!!!!

01-16-2005, 05:45 PM
Welcome to the Sweden board, Sammy!

Well, there are always a lot of Swedish supporters in Australia, most of them are always living there, but I think a few only come for the tournament.
So this is the reason why the Swedes get great support every year. So far I could unfortunately only follow the Australian Open on television (I live in Germany), but there have been many Swedish fans every year.
So I am sure it will be the same this year and of course, they will also cheer for Robin!!! It would be strange if it won´t be like that...
I hope this answer could help you ;)

Have a great time!

Fourth-seeded Radek Stepanek was the first player to advance to the Internazionali di Lombardia final, with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 2 seed Ivan Ljubicic. Stepanek broke Ljubicic in the first game of the first set and easily controlled the match from there. The Czech never faced a break point during the 65-minute semifinal, winning his 10 th match of 2005

Fifth-seeded Robin Soderling came back from a set down to down No. 8 Max Mirnyi, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4. The Swede saved two break points when he served for the match at 5-4 and hit an ace on his first match point, after one hour and 55 minutes.

The Internazionali di Lombardia is the first European stop on the 2005 ATP circuit as well as the first indoor event of the season

Stepanek: “I took away the strongest part of his game today, the serve, by returning very well. I controlled the match from the very first break. I am happy to have had an easy match today.”

On Ivan Lendl “I met him for the first time last summer, I was injured and went to Florida to see Petr Korda. Lendl's daughter was playing a golf tournament there. It was nice to meet him finally as he was my idol, like for a lot of Czechs. He told me a couple of things and I listened very carefully but I am not going to repeat them!”

On Petr Korda “I called him (in 2001) and asked if he could help. I was ranked like 600 after having been in the Top 150. He said he would help but only if I did all he would tell me to do. He said that I would be in the main draw of the US Open and in the Top 70 within one year…And that's what happened.”

Soderling : “It will be very tough against Stepanek because he's playing well and he is dangerous indoors.”

“The key against Mirnyi was that I started to return his serve better and could break him.”

The final of the Internazionali di Lombardia, the first European event on the 2005 ATP circuit, will be played at the Palalido stadium in Milan between Czech Radek Stepanek and Swede Robin Soderling, who have never met before

Stepanek, the first Czech player to reach the Milan final since his part-time coach Petr Korda in 1994 (l. to Boris Becker), is looking to win his first career ATP title, in his second ATP final (l. to Marat Safin in the BNP Paribas Masters final in Paris last November). This is his third consecutive appearance in Milan (2 nd RD in 2003, 1 st RD in 2004)

20-year-old Soderling is the first Swedish player to reach the Milan final in 20 years (Anders Jarryd lost to John McEnroe in the 1985 final) and is looking to become the third Swedish champion in Milan after Bjorn Borg (1978) and Stefan Edberg (1984). This is Soderling's fourth career ATP final, all indoors (won 2004 Lyon, runner-up at 2003 Stockholm and 2004 Marseille). This is his first appearance in Milan. :yeah:

Soderling withdraws from Sweden's Davis Cup tie
Fri Feb 25, 2005 10:04 AM GMT

STOCKHOLM, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Robin Soderling has pulled out of Sweden's Davis Cup first-round tie against France next weekend because of a foot injury, the Swedish tennis federation said on Friday.

The 20-year-old was expected to play the singles alongside Thomas Johansson after world number 11 Joachim Johansson pulled out of the tie earlier this week because of a shoulder injury.

Captain Mats Wilander has added Thomas Enqvist to the squad.

02-25-2005, 11:20 AM

Robin is forced to operation
9 March 2005
Soderling went under surgery in an attempt to repair damaged meniscus. He was operated on Monday and will take two weeks rest before he can begin rehabilitation, said his coach Peter Carlsson. The main object for the season, according to him, becomes going to full power again later in the season.

Sorry 2 of your faves had to play each other  It's about time Robin had a decent win/a win in general.

05-10-2005, 12:48 PM
:woohoo: Robin!!

This is a great win on clay for Robin! I was thrilled when I saw the score.

But anyway, just to defend Pim --- Pim is worthless on clay, but Nalbandian is a competent clay court player. I don't think Pim has gone bad. I don't think we will really know how he is doing til the grass season begins.

05-10-2005, 01:17 PM
I don't think he has gone bad. I just think it's amusing to see these scorelines from someone who has some great scores on other surfaces. It's like the tennis world goes upside down sometimes  kom igen grass! (What's the swedish word for grass!?)

Finally soderling will face Verdasco because Pim Pim withdrew and Roger will face a qualifyer. He's lucky Robin, but Verdasco is a tough player.

05-21-2005, 10:14 AM
If it turns out to be Jarkko vs Roger I am going to have a major vendetta against PimPim. :tape:

05-24-2005, 08:20 AM
Jarkko vs agassi. much better :tape:
Just saw a pic of Robin. I'm SOOOO glad to see the Euro-Mullet hairstyle make a comeback. Robin with a shaved head (ANYONE with a shaved head) is not pretty.

05-24-2005, 08:32 AM
Do you have the picture?
I just notice that he won yesterday...I supposed he would have lost but he didn't!!! So glad!

05-24-2005, 08:43 AM
I found it here:
on the pics from Day 1. Couldn't save it or get an URL, because it's part of one of those "Flash" albums. It's towards the end of the photos :) His eyes look SO blue

05-25-2005, 03:50 PM
Lee def. Söds 6-2 6-3 6-4.

05-25-2005, 05:42 PM
Robin :(

05-25-2005, 05:48 PM
so only one swede left now !!!

05-26-2005, 12:18 PM
as I remember, he also lost to Lee last year...

05-28-2005, 04:03 PM
this is odd.

no wonder i can't find soderling in the british messageboards. he's swedish!

hi guys! im just new here in robin soderling's msgboard. he's name sounds so english and i failed to look for his profile since i first saw him in the hamburg tournament and assumed he's one of henman's compatriots (i must admit that i just taken real notice of the sport just several months ago).
And there was a funny skit about him and marat talking about myskina on the opening or maybe qualifiers' day at rg.

2 ATP titles ... not bad.

05-28-2005, 04:25 PM
Hi gianina!
Welcome to the forum/Söderling thread:)
We'll teach you more about him ;) (have you been to
And with a bit of luck, we'll probably encourage you to support all the swedes! They're cool ;)

I'm Kristen, 23, Aussie girl by the way! :wavey:
See you!

05-28-2005, 06:15 PM
:wavey: Welcome, gianina!
Nice to see another Soderling fan here :)
 Kristen, already trying to recruit more swede-fans??? ;)

05-29-2005, 01:57 AM
Always. Give it a few weeks and gianina will know all about Jürgen Melzer as well ;) :tape:

05-29-2005, 06:40 AM
thanks for the welcome guys! :)
thanx for the site kristen!
The mullet or something look definitely looks better on robin than his shaved hairstyle.

I'm 20 from the philippines, by the way.

I like pimpim a lot too and mario ancic the croat.

and as for jurgen melzer, he's one of the top austrian players right? I dont see him much. I think I saw him last at the arag world tournament, but i'm not sure because supersport2 had a little glitch (damn cable).

06-07-2005, 02:57 PM
Robin came close to beating Federer today. it went to 3 sets and the 1st 2 were tb's. score: 7-6 6-7 4-6. nice try robin!!! :bigclap:

06-07-2005, 03:52 PM

Philippines! Someone in a similar timezone to me! (Or is it the same!? I have no idea). You're right, Jurgen is currently the #1 Austrian :D Very cool guy. One of those players who is so talented, but goes unnoticed by a lot of people. (And recently, he's learnt how to come back and win, when down a break in the final set. woohoo!)

You can read more fan tales at the Jurgen link in my signature if you get bored  or just check out the photos I took at the aussie tournaments this year (also in signature ;))

See you!

***Robin! I got so excited in the first set  Nice work :yeah:

06-07-2005, 05:36 PM
I was following the scoreboard at work and was very optimistic that Robin would win, but as so often, he did not go the whole way :(

Poor Robin

06-07-2005, 05:46 PM
I was following the scoreboard, too. Looks like he played well, except for the two double-faults at the set point of the 2nd. set and the match point...
anyways, good luck in Wimbledon!

06-07-2005, 07:26 PM
he double-faulted on match point? :smash: poor guy! must me so mad at himself!

06-08-2005, 10:08 AM
More info on the match and more on the final set development is on the Soderling Online ('s match report. This is what I saw on the DSF's record i have.

06-13-2005, 11:47 AM
Robin! :yeah: Straight sets today. 7-5, 6-3

I think Robin should be proud of the way he played against Federer. Of course, he must also be very disappointed because he had chances to win.

06-13-2005, 12:08 PM
Star...who is your avatar?
I always enjoyed studying the muscles which make up the human body :tape: ;)

06-13-2005, 01:00 PM
Yes. I understand your academic interest. I posted the photo as a demonstration of the importance of the strength of the center of the body for tennis. :) ;)

it's someone you probably don't like -- Coria

06-13-2005, 03:24 PM
Right now I can't think of anything he's done to annoy me. lol! I'm pretty impartial, but come July 15-16-17 I will be cheering for him loudly. ;)

Thanks for the demo;)!

Thanks for the demo;)!

I am very thankful that you will cheer for Argentina, Kristen
Argentina just HAS to win against Australia, because my biggest dream is a semifinal and even better final with Argentina in Europe ;)

And Kristen, you will discover some very nice Argentine guys, I think ;)
And pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee, take lots of photos :)

06-13-2005, 11:53 PM
oooh, cheer on Puerta for me! (is he on the team?)

06-14-2005, 12:57 AM
lol Don't know who is on the team :)
I'll cheer for the lot of them...I want to see Calleri, although it may be wishful thinking  and will definitely take heaps of photos. I'll be at the training session/s again ;) Hope I don't accidentally go and watch the Aussies train  although that would work in Peggy's favour;)

06-15-2005, 12:32 PM
Does anyone know what happened in the match with Kohlschreiber at 5-3 in the last set??

Robin was about to serve for the match, but then there was a long delay, after which he lost serve and then the match.
I was at work and followed the score on the internet, and there were no commentaries for this tournament. Hasn't anyone seen the match on TV?

06-15-2005, 12:34 PM
he lost 6-7 (probably 9-11) the scoreboard stucked.

06-15-2005, 12:46 PM
Yea I know he lost, Eurosport's site says he lost 7-9, but I don't think the scoreboard stucked for so long, it was like 15 minutes delay (on three sites - Interwetten, Eurosport and Livescore), and then there were just two games played (to 5-5), so they either were very long games, or there was a delay.

I remember how he lost his first final in Marseille to Hrbaty. Do you remember also? Hrbaty got a injury break when Robin was about to serve for the match and then broke, then won the match. I wonder if the same happened here.

06-21-2005, 03:10 PM
COME ON SODS!!! he hasn't held serve in about 4 games! it's 1 set to 2. i know he can do it!

06-21-2005, 03:54 PM
 he lost. 7-6 5-7 1-6 5-7. poor sods.

06-21-2005, 04:49 PM
To lose four serves in succession on grass? And Igor Andreev is not exactly the almighty on the grass.
That was simply very bad performance. I'm afraid after the choking in Halle, his mental game is nowhere near it should be.
The only thing positive, was, that he saved uncountable number of breakpoints. If he hadn't, he'd lost quite more severe.

I'm really counting on him to start improving soon, the last two matches were embarassing :(

06-21-2005, 04:55 PM
good luck for hard court season, robin!!

06-22-2005, 03:52 AM
:tape: Looks like you get a bit of time off, for updating the website!
Not really a good thing though, is it!? :banghead: Robin!

:tape: Looks like you get a bit of time off, for updating the website!
Not really a good thing though, is it!? :banghead: Robin!

I try to update the sooner I can. But there I write my personal view on the matches, this is just a fansite.
But I'm really angry with the last two matches. They should've been won, I mean, I KNOW can do far better, than what's producing right now.
Really hope in Sweden he'll play more relaxed, he's always done well there.

06-24-2005, 03:53 AM
Do any of you guys know why Robin and Johan gave Erlich/Ram a walkover in doubles? I'm hoping it was just that they 'forgot to show up' and noone is injured

06-24-2005, 02:26 PM
I don't know about the doubles match. But I've translated some of the comments from Robin after the match with Andreev. Even though he talks about some knee procedure, he's not mentioning an injury, and said will play Bastad.
You can read more.. if you don't mind my bad translation ;)

06-26-2005, 09:47 AM

Here's an interview about it, but in Swedish:

12-11-2005, 07:53 PM

I just wanted to let you know that there is a new tennis photo gallery with very hot pics of Robin including many shirtless ones :-).

Here is the link:

01-02-2006, 01:52 AM
anyone know what's up with söds lately? is he playing any tourneys soon? i miss him

01-03-2006, 06:17 AM
He has a knee injury. He will play Heilbronn Challenger and Zagreb.

 do you know in what context this pic was taken? he looks like he's missing tennis ;)

01-13-2006, 12:29 AM
in that picture, he kinda looks like Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer. let me see if i can find a pic.... ok this is the best i could find, but i swear i've seen one that's more alike.

01-13-2006, 06:18 AM
 do you know in what context this pic was taken?

I would, if only I knew some Swedish...

01-13-2006, 09:41 PM
boo, my pic doesn't work... oh well.

01-13-2006, 09:46 PM

You can post the text here, if you like ;)

01-14-2006, 02:14 AM
I want to, but I can't find the article. sorry...:p

01-17-2006, 12:46 PM
The pic is from the 2005 Swedish Open's press conference. It was on numerous Swedish newspapers, alongside commentary on the Robin's pull-out and mainly on the Davis-Cup controversy.

01-29-2006, 01:34 PM
Robin won the challenger in Heilbronn.
He def. Tipsarevic 7-6, 6-2

01-29-2006, 03:24 PM
Robin :bigclap: :bigclap:

01-29-2006, 08:11 PM
YAY!!!! congrats robin! :worship:

01-31-2006, 11:07 AM
Robin won the challenger in Heilbronn.
He def. Tipsarevic 7-6, 6-2

Hmm, sorry, but Robin never played Tipsarevic. This is the result of the semifinal - Zib bt. Tipsarevic. Robin then blew away Tomas in the final.
But the result counts (and also the ranking points and the gained confidence :D ).
So now, good luck in Zagreb, lots of points to defend.

01-31-2006, 11:21 AM
:aparty: Woo! Go Robin for winning the phantom final :D :aparty:
Glad he won something... individual matches are a good start :)

01-31-2006, 01:03 PM

Good luck in the next rounds in Memphis

02-22-2006, 08:23 AM
Poor Max :o But I am really happy for Robin :yeah: It's good to have him playing (well) again. Kom igen!

Will you get a chance to see him play anytime soon?

02-25-2006, 11:21 PM

We had a quick hit on site and then watched a little of the Olympic hockey between Sweden and the Czech Republic in the locker room before we went out to play. There is a large screen TV and a couple of very comfortable couches. Sweden won that and (Robin) Soderling was pretty fired up. He didn't even know that it was on. I was the one who turned on the TV and Sweden was leading 5-3 and then they scored right at the end of the second period. He was saying something in Swedish -- I had no clue -- but he seemed pretty fired up about it all."...

02-28-2006, 12:18 PM
For anyone else, it could be a bodgy photo... but I don't mind this photo of Robin.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Feb 25, 2006 (AP)— Robin Soderling struggled with his serve yet pulled out a 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5) victory Saturday over Kristof Vliegen of Belgium in the semifinals of the Regions Morgan Keegan championships.

Soderling reached his fifth career final, and will aim for his third title against either sixth-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany or French qualifier Julien Benneteau on Sunday.

"I definitely need some rest. This was a tough one. I can already feel it," Soderling said after the 2-hour, 20-minute match.

Soderling thrives indoors, where he is 35-14 overall. The Swede also improved to 5-0 in semifinals played indoors. Soderling, who had two surgeries on his right knee last year, is 6-3 this season after losing to eventual champ Andy Murray last week in San Jose.

It wasn't easy for Soderling, who fought off 10 break opportunities against Vliegen. Soderling converted only 55 percent of his first serves, double-faulted nine times and had only four aces to Vliegen's 10.

"Especially in the third set, I think we both played amazing tennis," Soderling said. "He came up with some great shots on my match points. All the important points he played really well, so I'm really happy to get through this one."

Vliegen came in ranked 65th, and he was buoyed by a crowd that cheered his strong serve mixed with frequent trips to the net for soft drop shots. But Soderling broke serve to avoid a tiebreaker at the end of the first set when Vliegen hit a forehand wide.

Vliegen easily took the second when he broke Soderling twice, then served out for the set with an ace.

The third set featured 11 break points that neither could convert, including Vliegen with three in Game 7. Vliegen fought off three match points and tied the set at 5-5, forcing deuce for the third time with an ace and sealing the game with a service winner.

In the tiebreaker, Soderling led 4-1 before Vliegen won four of the next five points to tie at 5-all. But Soderling won a point on Vliegen's serve with a backhand passing shot, then Vliegen hit a forehand wide.

03-14-2006, 06:21 AM
How can you lose with 9 matchpoints against Andreev???

03-14-2006, 03:46 PM
?!?!?!?!?! wow. poor guy. wonder what happened.

03-15-2006, 09:00 AM
Nothing, he just lost all them. He was leading 6-3 in the tie-break, 3 straight matchpoints, 2 of them on his own serve. Should've finished the match then.
I guess the confidence was badly shaken afterwards.

03-15-2006, 09:03 AM
Robin got a WC for Miami.

03-15-2006, 10:33 AM
I wonder if this has any implications for Mark Philippoussis! Unless he is injured again.

Oh no. I just found this,
Following players have received wildcards:

Robin Soderling
Mark Philippoussis
Nicolas Lapentti
Alex Kuznetsov
Donald Young

Doesn't Mark live over there anyway? Go Robin! Very deserving :)

03-15-2006, 03:27 PM
looks like no WC for Robin.

Guga's wild card goes to Sam Querrey (not Robin Soderling)

04-18-2006, 10:09 AM
Robin def Davy in 3 tough sets. Congrats and keep it up! :bounce:

04-21-2006, 12:35 PM
Another injury. Third break for the year :(

04-23-2006, 11:32 AM
Yea it's suck about the injury. Is he ever going to healthy!?

05-29-2006, 06:11 PM
oh pity he made so many unforced errors against nadal! but it was a good match, hard conditions for both

06-01-2006, 06:10 AM
Robins turn now...
Oh, and he's teamed with Landsberg in Roland Garros doubles. I didn't know Johan was still playing! Good luck to them both :)

06-01-2006, 12:07 PM
I finally switched to better hosting. So now I hope it will perform faster and I may be able to include more features.
Hope in the grasscourt season there will be a lot of good news to report

06-13-2006, 01:25 AM
Yea nice win for Robin in the 1st rnd. The 2nd rnd should be interesting vs Pavel.

Nice site enter I guess thats where all the Robin fans are.

NEW HAVEN -- Wow Swede it is.

When former top 10 Swedish star Joachim Johansson withdrew from the 2006 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament citing a foot injury, it appeared as if Sweden’s hopes for an extended stay in New Haven took a major hit.

As it turns out, as long as 22-year-old Swede Robin Soderling is around, the hits have kept on coming.

The 15th-seeded Soderling used his booming serve to overpower Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday to reach his first ATP semifinal since the Wimbledon tune-up in Nottingham, England in June.

"It was a little bit tougher I think than the score showed," said Soderling, who served at 76 percent and had seven aces. "I think I served really well today. I felt like really I hit the ball well.

"But I was a little bit tired, though. It was tough. I played late, pretty late (Wednesday) night and pretty early today. I could easily have been sleeping a couple of hours more. But it was OK."

The 6-foot-3 Soderling has been opening eyes all week with his 130 mile-per-hour serve and powerful groundstrokes. After his win over rising American Sam Querrey and his upset of third-seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in three sets, Soderling overwhelmed Melzer.

"It is hard to even touch his first serve," Melzer said. "I had (two) break chances. If I take them, maybe it is a different match. He was serving well and I could barely touch his first serve."

The win not only pushes Soderling into today’s semifinals against either Nikolay Davydenko or Olivier Rochus, but it also moves him one step closer to becoming the top-ranked player in Sweden.

Heading into the tournament, No. 33 Jonas Bjorkman held the distinction of being the No. 1 Swede followed by No. 38 Thomas Johansson and then No. 41 Soderling.

Tennis in Sweden is in the midst of a recession. Beginning with the legendary Bjorn Borg’s rise to the top of the tennis world in the 1970s and followed by a flock of Swedes including former world No. 1s Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg, Sweden had been a major breeding ground in men’s tennis circles.

From 1974-1997, a Swedish player was in the year-end top 10. But since Magnus Norman and Thomas Enqvist finished 2000 ranked fourth and ninth, respectively, there has not been a Swedish player in the year-end 10.

"I think tennis is not that popular anymore in Sweden," Soderling said. "We have different sports that are more popular, like soccer, ice hockey."

A lot of kids starts with those sports. After Borg, Wilander, Edberg, everybody wanted to play tennis. Every kid played tennis. They played in their backyards, streets, school, everywhere. It’s not the same anymore. I think it’s pretty normal that we don’t have as many good juniors anymore."

Following the current big three in Sweden, the next highest ranked player from Sweden is No. 186 Andreas Vinciquerra. [woohooooo!]

"I think tennis is getting a little bit more popular again," Soderling said. "They started a new TV channel where they show a lot of tennis, all the Swedes’ matches in tournaments around the world. It’s a little bit more popular again. It’s going to take for sure maybe 10 years before we have more good guys on the tour. I think we’re on the right way right now."

Robin played two great tournaments, sf in Stockholm, and 3rd round in Madrid!
Only losing after tough 2 sets to Blake and Federer. If he had a little bit more luck he may have won both of these games, but it should not be.

Next stop:Lyon

Robin was playing a great match against Federer, he was leading in both tiebreaks, but he could not get it through in the end :(

Thanks for the info guys... I was wondering how he went in the second set. I lost a little heart when I saw Federer come back in the first tiebreak. I was so excited that Robin would take the first, and then...well...he and I were both a little disappointed  Still, good work.
