Good draws for a lot of my favourites: Sherwood, Hilton and Norman :D
I'm in no way confident Arvind's gonna beat Mahut though.
Poor Ivo Heuberger drawing the top seed :(
Tough draw for Falla and Bogomolov Jr! What could quite easily have been a final at Binghampton is first round in the Bronx

Those are the results from today (I came home late after watching doubles so I can't update during the day)

As for the Eric match it was so sad. I was rooting for him (no matter what) but after he lost the first set I was really hoping he would make a match out of it. He just seemed so distraught during the whole thing. He kept looking over to his coach and seemed really upset. Nothing could go right for him. He did have chances to break in the 2nd set, but he kept dumping his shots into the net..Then after the match he was walking out right in front of me and he was crying. His eyes were welled up with tears. (I felt so bad for him).

Doubles:

Levi/Sela d. Roger-Vasselin/Dlouch 7-5, 6-1 (this match was hilarious, all four guys got along so well with each other and it was funy seeing how Edouard and Lucas were throwing the match in the last set to save some energy for singles tomorrow)

Mamit/Vahaly also won their doubles match against Peya and who he was playing with (his name slips my mind right now, sorry)

I didn't get to go to the qualies, sorry!

Btw, its Friday now and its raining. It doesn't look as if it going to clear up soon either. I wouldn't be surprised if no plays happens today. Today when I went earlier the rain came just as they were about to start. It started as a light drizzle then got heavier and heavier. When I left (its only like a 15 minute drive) all the players were just sitting at the food court trying to pass the time. (I was sitting there too, but figured if if stops raining I will come back later in the day)... So yeah if I do get to go back I'll come back on later to post the results.

I just saw the Yahoo weather report and, as of 30 minutes ago, it was a light rain. Tennisgirl lives in the area so she knows better than me but if the weather report is to be believed...it looks like they will be lucky to get one match in. Supposed to be scattered thunderstorms on Saturday & Sunday.

Tennisgirl, do you know if there are indoor courts that some of the matches can be moved to if the scedule backs up too much?

That weather report is pretty much right. Its really light rain and then you think its going to stop its starts again. Right now I barely think its raining, but by the time they dry the courts off it could start again.
And the weekend doesn't look to great either. I'm hopefuly though.. *fingers crossed*

Btw, there are no indoor courts. Its a public park in NYC so there aren't much facilities either. I do know that they are planning to move a lot of the matches to the side courts because of the rain. I was there when the tournament supervisor was talking to a Scott Lispky about his match.

Weather Update: I looked out the window and its appeared to be stopped here. (It could still be raining at the tournament). And with the drying of the court I wouldn't expect any play to at least 3:00 local time. That's the earliest I would say.

They have alot of matches to get through with the women being there too. If the weather keeps up, I don't see Alex and Travis getting their Doubles SF in.

any news?

What I read on WTA world is that there's a possibility that the QFs will be moved indoors so I guess they will be moved to a new location if they do that. Don't know what that will do for the Doubles matches though.

I have some results - I don't know if I'm late on this but here they are,
(1) Lukas Dlouhy def. Takao Suzuki
Brian Vahaly def. Kristian Pless
(4) Thierry Ascione def. Nicolas Mahut 7-6 in the third
(10)Edouard Roger-Vasselin def. (WC) Scott Lipsky 7-5 in the third

I did see the Scott Lipsky and Dick Norman first round match and it appeared that Dick didn't have any injury. He just didn't seem interested in the match. Almost as if his heart wasn't in it.

None of the doubles matches were played today so everything is being moved to Saturday after all of the semifinals.

Scores:
Thierry Ascione d. Mahut 6-7(13), 6-4, 7-6 (The first set tiebreaker was amazing. I thought it would never end)
Brian Vahaly d. Pless 6-4, 7-5 (or 7-6, I don't remember)
Lucas Dlouchy d. Suzuki 6-3, 6-0
Edouard Roger-Vasselin d. Scott Lipsky 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 (This match was a rollarcoaster ride. There were 6 straight service breaks and then Edouard held and broke Scot again. It was fantastic)

Semfinal Results:

Brian Vahaly d. Lucas Dlouhy 7-6, 6-1
Thierry Ascione d. Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6, 6-3

I didn't get to stay for the men's doubles semifinals but I did see Benneteau and Mahut practicing before I left on an outer court. And then Levy and Sela were getting ready to practice since they were due on after the women's doubles matches.

he probably wasn't very motivated to win ... he was complaining about this event ... there was no club house, only a few plastic chairs ... showers in a ugly caravan (no hot water), bad food

a real horror for the players
