Joachim "Pim Pim" Johansson, 23, blir borta i åtta månader.

It says he had an shoulder surgery.
Poor Pim Pim!!!! Get well soon

Pim Pim in surgery - away for eight months

http://www.aftonbladet.se/sport/0507/27/pim.jpg

Here comes a shock for Swedish tennis. Joachim "Pim Pim" Johansson, 23, will be away from professional tennis for eight months. Today his shoulder was in surgery in the hospital of Mölndal.

- "While I'm recovering I will train my body again. And I look forward to be able to train my serve and not just serve if there is a match", says "Pim Pim" to GP.
Johansson started the year well with ATP-victories in Adelaide and Marseille. But after that it has been very hard for the 23-year-old. "Pim Pim" disappeared quickly in Wimbledon and even failed in his home tournament in Båstad.

The pain at his shoulder has been bothering him for a while and it has been doubtful (don't know that word tveksamt) if he could be ready for the US Open in August. But the damage was worse then that. Today it became clear that "Pim Pim" will miss the rest of the season.

The shoulder specialist Ulf Nordenson from the hospital in Mölndal did surgery on Johanssons right shoulder today - and now awaits a long period of recovery.
- "Normally it takes about eight months to come back to professional tennis after a surgery like that", says Nordenson.

I think it's a shame that Joachim is away for so long now. I'm not really a big fan of him, but he's a great player and pro tennis will miss him for sure. Well I hope he recovers quickly :)

Johansson set for lengthy lay-off

Sweden's Joachim Johansson will be out of action for up to eight months after undergoing a shoulder operation.

The 23-year-old was ranked 10th in the world earlier this year after capturing titles in Adelaide and Marseille.

He is currently 14th in the rankings after missing the French Open with an elbow injury before reaching the third round at Wimbledon.

"During the rehabilitation I'll work on building up my body," Johansson told Swedish newspaper Goteborgs-Posten.

I just heard this news.

But Mats tipped us to this back during Davis Cup when he said Joachim needed to put a priority on taking care of his body. He's not been the same player this year as last. We've all worried a bit about him and his level of play.

Shoulder surgery is very difficult to recover from. Look how long it has taken TJ to come back to his level.

Anyway, thanks for the article and the translation. :clap2: :hatoff:

”Jag borde opererats tidigare”

Pim-Pim, efterklok.

hello, don't normally post on mtf, but the article ends kind of humorously (well...probably not for him!), so i thought i'd post it for you. Here it is bablefished:

Pim-Pim, efterklok.
” Pim-Pim " fails US Open - Davis's cup was for kul
The damage came olägligt.
Now fails Joachim Johansson US Open, where he went to semifinal last year.
- afterward should I been operated before Davis's cup, says Johansson, 23.
The previous Tuesday took Joachim Johansson resolved, that does that he becomes out from the tip tennis in eight months.
- I magnetröntgade the arbor. First, I intended to take cortison, but before or latter must I do an operation, says Pim-Pim on a press conference in Stockholm.
How long has you to sensed of the damage?
- the first time each in Adelaide January 3.
Has you evil now?
- no, I have not had ont after the operation.
Should you have been operated early?
- afterward, when the results not where so good, should I been operated before Davis's cup. But Davis's Davis's cup is always kul to play.
He sheep also criticism on home ground. SVT: s tennis competent Janne Gunnarsson thinks that Pim-Pim has played too many turneringar and the the select fast money.
- I spoke with him in Båstad. He willed can to be more upright. The criticism is incorrect. The last half-year has I not had any income. I have played in order to few games, says Pim-Pim.
- he is up and bikes than once.
So the chat about that you willed be greedy does not agree?
- the thinks I not. I have not played so a lot of, not more than someone else. Had I intended on money had I not taken decisions to operate myself now.
*******

Surgery puts Swede in doubt
By DOUG ROBERTSON
29jul05

DEFENDING champion Joachim Johansson has had surgery on his right shoulder and is in doubt for the Australian Men's Hardcourt Championships in Adelaide in January.

The right-handed world No. 14 reportedly had surgery on his serving shoulder on Wednesday but Men's Hardcourt co-director Peter Johnston said he would not write-off the determined big-hitting Swede.

Johnston is yet to hear from Johansson's management but said he expected a full report at the weekend.

It was reported from Sweden that Johansson, 23, would miss up to eight months which, if accurate, would rule him out of the Adelaide tournament, the first of the new season.

"We haven't been told anything official from his agents so I still wouldn't write him off," Johnston said. "Until it's confirmed we can't assume anything.

"Even if he has had surgery, we're still optimistic he'll be here. It's only the end of July so there's five-and-a-half months until the tournament so he's got time (to recover).

"I know he was very keen to come back down here and defend his title and this (championship) would be a good sign-post for him to work towards getting back for the new season."

The fast-rising Swedish Davis Cup player damaged the shoulder during a tough January in Australia when he won the Australian Men's Hardcourt for the first time and lost in the fourth round at the Australian Open to Andre Agassi in four sets.

He aggravated the injury at Wimbledon, losing in the third round. In his most recent tournament three weeks ago, he lost in the first round at the Swedish Open on clay, his worst surface, but won the doubles title with Jonas Bjorkman.

Johansson confirmed at Wimbledon his intention to return to Adelaide in January. Johnston said he knew then Johansson had a suspect shoulder but did not expect the Swede would undergo surgery.

"Of course, we'd like him to defend his title and we're not too worried because there's quite a few months to go," Johnston said. "Either way we expect to make a few exciting announcements about who will be in Adelaide in January in about six to eight weeks."

Hewitt to play at home
18aug05

WORLD No.3 Lleyton Hewitt will play in the Australian Hardcourt Championship in January in preparation for next year's Australian Open, Tennis Australia said today.

Hewitt was eliminated by American Taylor Dent in a quarter-final at this year's hard court event in Adelaide, his hometown, but went on to post his best Australian Open result a few weeks later.

He became the first Australian since Pat Cash in 1988 to reach the final, although he lost in four sets to Russian Marat Safin.

The Adelaide tournament is where Hewitt made his ATP Tour breakthrough in 1998 when he won the title to become the youngest tour winner (16 years and 10 months) since American Michael Chang in 1988, and the lowest-ranked winner in Tour history (No.550).

He won again in 2000 having also been a finalist in 1999.

The Australian Hardcourt Championship takes place at Memorial Drive, Adelaide, on January 2-8.

Sweden's Joachim Johansson has announced he plans to be back to defend the title.
