My sister and I watched the Wawrinka-Rusedski R1 match at Court BN w our Federerfan friend. As this was the first time we’d seen Stan play, it was good to know that he could take a set off Greg, who was playing fairly well [and who ended up making the semifinals, helped by his contingent of fans, one of whom kept shouting his name loudly behind us until it became rather annoying, given the strong accent].

Stan’s strong shot is his backhand, which he displayed in his exchanges. We can only hope that he will be able to give Switzerland at least one point in the upcoming Davis Cup tie in September. ;)

To be honest, I didn't even realise he had an injury :shrug: someone posted that he picked it up on the Sunday during training? I watched his first-round match against Benneteau and he practically blitzed through it.

The Gicquel match was good - lots of entertaining tennis - but Stani lost a lot of opportunities that he really should've won. I pegged it down to mental inconsistency at that time but then I realised that he was injured :sad: he did seem to take his time during changeovers at that match, like trying to get as much time to recover as he could.

The conversation amongst them went something like this:

"We're supporting Stanislas."

"Okay! COME ON STAN! Is he Russian?" :spit:

"No, no he's.... *rustling paper* Swiss!"

"Oooh, like Lindt chocolate!" :haha: :silly: :spit:

"COME ON STANLEY - DO THIS FOR MARCOS!" :rolls:

If you look at the photo more carefully, you'll see that even the scales don't fit. Stan is in a different scale to the landscape's that surrounds him. :lol:

It didn't look fake to me either :lol: it just looks like the photographer used a strong flash and was a bit overzealous with the Sharpening option in Photoshop, but when I looked at the picture I didn't think that Stan was superimposed onto the background.

Well, the photographer is Benjamin S, a sport photographer for a Swiss news paper.. :shrug:
