I was just wandering when were you the most shocked that a player won a Grand Slam. It might be for different reasons, maybe because of surface, timing, or you may just not have expected it.
Just wandering guys.

Michael Chang RG 1989 ........ he was dead on his feet vs Lendl and he came back to beat Edberg in final
Stefan Edberg US 1992 was a break down in 5th set in 4th rd(Krajicek), QF(Lendl) and SF(Chang) and still came thru to beat Sampras in final that was the best, i can still remember that.
Thomas Johansson AUS 2002 do i need to say anymore
Albert Costa RG 2002 ........ ditto as above

Thomas Johansson was a shocker win, and the best of the year so far :) But as I watched the Aussie Open progress, it seemed almost like Goran at last year's Wimbly--destiny!

Guga in RG 1997, of course. No one knew about him even here in Brasil! ;)
Johansson this year was big surprise too.
Goran last year in Wimbledon!
All of them good surprises, I should add. :D

I would never expect Costa to win a Grand Slam before Ferrero and Corretja for example, and he shocked me most I believe.
Also Johansson, I know he was a good player, but not enough to win a title like a Grand Slam. It's pretty weird.
When Korda won a GS title. I mean, I never expected

i will when i win 1. :D j/k

Johansson!!! The final was so bored!
07-26-2002, 01:18 PM
He beat Marat!

I never would have guessed Johansson to win a Grand Slam; the same thing for Kuerten when he won the French for the first time. I remember thinking that year that Kuerten was a guy who might make the top 20, but never dreamed he would be a Grand Slam winner!

Sampras when he won his seventh wimbledon :D j/k

Johannson moreso than Costa, because Costa has had a lot of success even before Roland Garros.

pete sampras at the us open 90, see that time I was already a Steffi fan but I also loved Andre so when they both lost the finals again I was shocked then I decided only to support Steffi because two favs was not good for my health;)
so when steffi retired and started to date Andre the circle was round again;)
