Hurry Up Santoro!

Sjengster
02-26-2003, 12:06 PM
Yes! The Sjengster broke Santoro when he was serving for the match and has now levelled at 5-5! Now come on, get that break!

I suppose it's too much to hope that Federer, Novak and Schalken can all win on the same day, but it's worth a try...

vaiva
02-26-2003, 12:19 PM

Three out of three for me today, not bad at all! Now we'll have a new Dubai champion, and I don't mind who wins out of the Sjengster and Novak, at least one of them will make the semis!

It's 4-4 now. Hmm, I shouldn't imagine Safin would take kindly to being labelled German - the two countries have something of a history, to say the least...

Marat is having another 1 of those days

Sjengster
02-26-2003, 01:38 PM
Yes, but Bl@de accidentally put 'GER' beside Safin's name and I just casually mentioned that Safin probably wouldn't want to be mistaken for a German considering the history between the two countries; Riley Finn then linked that to the Poland comment.

Back on topic, vamos Tommy!

warfreakbix
02-26-2003, 01:39 PM
Blade, I thought Marat was serving well? What happened?

Sjengster
02-26-2003, 01:41 PM
Well we all know with Marat that when the mind goes, so does the game - even if he's serving like a god, he probably missed a short ball on the very next shot and the unforced errors have mounted. Still, I'm only speculating, Bl@de will know the truth.

Still, I'm happy for Robredo - this is only his second win of the year, after all. I guess Safin is going to have to close out these tight matches if he wants to make a full comeback from injury.

Wow! Looks like Tommy is finally getting sth going here! What was the TB score? I just came back to check the scores! I'm very happy for Tommy but not happy at all for Marat -- what happened to him?? Anybody watch the match and can give us a summary??

Hi Sjengster! A lot of people checking out this thread! ;)

Vamos, Tommy! He'll face either El Aynaoui or fellow Spaniard Fel Lopez!! Happy for Rogi and Max too!

It doesn't matter meSafin lost, I'm not a fan of him. But I did never expect it. Ok, Robredo is a good player, I know. But...

Well, everyone's having a go at Safin, but by the looks of the score Robredo was mighty determined - I don't know what the tiebreak score was, but it went on for well over ten minutes, and perhaps he was just the stronger player in the end.

I think he'd prefer to face his fellow Spaniard in the quarters, though... he did beat El Aynaoui in that big marathon semi-final in Younes' home tournament Casablanca in 2001, 7-6 in the third, then lost the final to Canas. But the last time they played, in Bastad last year, El Aynaoui ran Robredo all over the court with his forehand and smacked winners everywhere.

:) Thanks Sjengster! Yes, I'd prefer an all-Spaniard match next rd too! So vamos, Feli!!

Riley Finn: "kartofla"? does that have sth to do w a potato???

warfreakbix: "orgasmic proportions" lol! I guess if it's a Marat match, that will inevitably happen!! ;)

Who plays next anyway?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I was rooting for Roboredo...or would have been if I was around..

Nice for him to pick up a good win like this - yeah, yeah, Marat isn't 100%, but it's still a damn good win for a guy who hasn't won much all year. He's been getting some awful draws, this one included.

Sjengster

Well, everyone who did well here last year keeps tumbling out - and El Aynaoui's 2003 tiebreak nightmares continue. That's the second time he's lost in two straight breakers in the Middle East, the first being to Koubek in Doha 7-6, 7-6. It's these left-handers, you know... seriously, I think his problem is that they can find a better forehand angle to his weaker backhand side and get errors out of him.

Pity, I was hoping that he would make some steps towards capturing another Arabic tournament. Still, it does mean that only Mirnyi can usurp Federer in the Champions Race this week, and even then he'd have to win the whole thing.

Well, I for one know that "Kartoffel" means potato in German, so I assumed that there might be some linguistic link...
