moya - kuerten

Kuerten is leading with 5/2 from their seven meetings, but the last one was in the masters Hamburg in 1999.
So it will be a beautifull match I think, both number ones, both winners roland garros, both being back from serious injury, moyke is already in the top ten and guga will come back in the top ten.
Who will win the semis,? I don't know but I hope it will be moyke!!!!

I was kind of hoping that Kuerten would win this one. Check out his last two matches against Coria!

2002-09-09 Bahia Hardcourt F Gustavo Kuerten (BRA) 6-7(4) 7-5 7-6(2)
2003-01-06 Auckland Hardcourt QF Gustavo Kuerten (BRA) 7-5 4-6 6-2

Yeah, Coria has never beaten him, but there is no time like the present! Last final they played Guga fought off a match point or two. I was hoping that Coria would return the favour.

Moya won the only match against Coria as well, but that was back in 2000, when Coria was still rather wet behind in the ears.

Coria's back in the top 30 next week :)

I'm not surprised that his ranking's going up - I believe now he's reached the final, he's knocked Koubek off 10th spot in the Champions Race. Just like Chela raced back up the rankings last year, Coria seems to be doing it this year - it's taken him a little longer to get over the drugs suspension, but he seems to be able to beat an awful lot of top players.

The only time I've seen him play was his first round against Henman in Monte Carlo, and he certainly showed his skills there - he led 7-6, 4-1 with a double break, then 5-4 serving for the match, until Tim finally pulled it together and Coria won just one more game in the match.

With Canas' top 20 place in jeapordy, if he doesn't start playing (and winning) soon, Coria may be the one to jump up and fill his shoes. Chela is ranked slightly higher still, but if Coria was to win the title, it would be a difference of a few ranking spots.

Actually, I remember now I saw him play third round at Roland Garros against Ferrero, and even though Ferrero won in straight sets it still seemed like a tough encounter - I saw the early part of the third set and Coria was racing across the baseline chasing down everything being thrown at him and hurling it right back at Ferrero with furious intensity, he was like a clay-courters' version of Hewitt. I think Ferrero called this and the Safin match his two best performances from Roland Garros, however.

Ferrero really did have a stinker of a draw at Roland Garros. Coria, Gaudio, Agassi, Safin. That's dreadful! Especially seeing as he was 1-3 against Gaudio, going into that match. Not to suggest that Costa had a soft draw mind you, his was just as bad - on paper, that is...

I had expected more of a match from Coria at Roland Garros - that is, I expected him to take a set or two. But I suppose that Ferrero played really well that match, or he would not have said it was one of his best performance there. Of course ESPN was too busy mourning the loss of Andy Roddick to show matches for the next week and a half :)

Coria hasn't done much at the French Open, but he's gotten terrible draws. Guga in the first round in 2001, then Ferrero early in 2002. Hopefully he - and Gaudio as well - get some decent breaks this year. For the love of God, let one of them draw Roddick as their earliest seed...

Hmmm... I sense this is one of those matches that Kuerten would have been able to close out comfortably a couple of years ago, but which he's now struggling in due to the physical problems that he's had. He was serving for the first set, wasn't he? And once he lost the tiebreak, I think the physical factor played a huge part in that second-set collapse.

Billabong
02-22-2003, 09:00 PM
Guga was really dominating in the first set until 5-3, he just lost his concentration, like 2 days ago against Saretta... he said it's normal because it's his first clay tournament for a long time, and soon it will be like before... I think he's as good as before, it's just a matter of concentration..

Well, that was a tough match to cheer for.
I like both of them, They are my favs. So i am happy and a bit sad at the same time. But this may happen in Acapulco as well, since they are playing well.

OK then the final will be "Moyá vs mini-Moyá"
interesting match to see

Go Coria... I think he's the underdog here... I always prefer underdogs...

I want Coria to win because Moya's been there and done that... Coria is starting to realise his potential and I think with his confidence sky-high....he'll give Moya a good match....

However, reality will prevail in the end though..... Moya has too much experience on his side....Moya to win his first title of the year... Moya 75 26 64

I surely hope Moyke will win the match, his first tournement from the year. He is so good on clay.
Coria is young and indeed he is at the beginning of his career and if you are a fan from him i can understand you want him to win. But maybe he can win another tournement? But not from moyke. =))
