No surprise, Gonzo is in terrific form as shown from his last match.

Today he made 47 winners and only 6 UEs. Not from this planet. Steam is coming out of his ears.

Gonzo's really flying under the radar at this grand slam. With that explosive forehand and some great serving today, he's made it to the 2nd week. Chile must be very proud right now.

Thanks for the vCash, Feña!

Seriously, I have always thought that grass ought to be the surface for Gonzalez. He is a hit-and-miss player. He is as much of a hit-and-miss player as it gets. Psychologically, it should be a very fitting surface for him - unlike clay or hard, all he has to do is hitting his high-risk shots - wherever they go - in or out - on grass they are not coming back.

Everyone can get off of the Pim Pim bandwagon now. He got thrashed at Halle and thrashed here. On the stats sheet, it says his 1st serves were averaging only 114 mph? What was happeing there? Great, great win for Gonzo. He is playing better than anyone right now.

He played an awesome match, if he can sustain this level of play then he could go very far

0 UE in the deciding set.

Just good clean playing from Gonzalez.

Pim was mentally shaken a little after failing to convert one of four break points in the 2nd set game. That would have put him ahead and serving for set.

Hope he comes back strong in the hardcourt/indoor season.

His injuries have been limiting his top 5 potential based primarily on hardcourt/indoor results.

Gonzo can be a good played on any surface when he is playing well, so in some cases maybe could be a :god: :D

average pimpim´s first serve speed=114 mph :haha: now coria can serve harder than him :tape:

I honestly thought it would be a closer match but Fernando is playing at such a high level right now :D.

Yeah, I noticed the 114 mph average 1st serve. Pim Pim had a 120 and 123 mph average in his other matches. His 1st serve percentage was 75% today as well, compared to 67% and 66% before. Why wasn't he going for more? Injured?

He probably tried to bomb them in early in the match, but saw that Gonzalez's form was so good, he couldn't withstand the pressure on his second serve, so took something off and went for high first serve % thinking he'd be able to hold more easily since he wasn't getting many aces anyway.

Gonzalez performs infinitely better when the occassion is not too big. Under pressure and focus he cracks.

I didn't notice this topic before posting another on the same subject...

I haven't seen the match, but it transpires that, however Gonzo was playing, Joachim is not so strong on grass as many expect... He is loosing pretty often and not from top grass-courters.

pim pim
and no, he's not injured, but he did have the flu or something last week after he lost in halle, and he wasn't 100% recovered... but that's no reason to play like sh!t!!!

Yes, but grass generally is too fast and doesn't give him the time he needs to set up his big groundies. This year, however, the grass is playing slower and the bounce is higher like a hardcourt.

Unbelievable winners to errors ratio! :worship: Just please lose your next match.

Just typical Gonzo. When he's clicking, (base on the UE's number, he's definitely clicking) there's no stopping him, even Federer, IMO. But it can easily be the other way round for him in winners/UEs ratio. So, all his opponents better pray for Gonzo having an off day when playing him. ;) :p

Is this question based on the loss to Gonzalez? Gonzalez has a win over Roddick on hc, doesn't he?
Pim's problem is a lack of movement, imo.

Huuuum, you isn't watching the matches alive, right? Because what you said about high bounces is totally and completely without sense. The bounces are much, much low than a hard-court.

Pim's problem is a lack of movement, imo.

He has two wins against Roddick on hardcourts:

2002 Cincinnati TMS, Hard, Q
Ohio, USA Hard Q Gonzalez 7-6, 7-6
2004 Athens Olympics, Hard, R16
Greece Hard R16 Gonzalez 6-4, 6-4

There goes everyone's "PimPim" will defeat Rogi in the semis on his birthday prediction...

okay, I kinda thought it could definitely happen myself, but thanks Gonzo for smashing the possibility of "PimPim"'s strong possibility of going to the final b/c i really didnt want that to happen :D

and congrats Gonzo for just opening a can of whoop ass when nobody expected it, even me!!! But like Lee said, Gonzo could be completely off the next day. The dude is f***ing whack. But I'll pray or something,

I never thought JoJo was going to beat Federer. He has a hard time in his first round match against a really weak server, barely beat Rusedski (who is very good on grass though), and finally got slapped around today.

Gonzalez seems to have played out of this world type of tennis in this match. 47 winners vs 6 unforced errors; thats unheard of, especially with his risky style of play. He also, surprisingly won the ace battle, 21-9.
