Great win for Lopez, seems like Lopez is playing very well and does so against Safin.

Does anyone know if maybe the injuries just caught up to Safin?

I totally knew F-Lo would dismantle Safin. Thanks for the vCash, Feli! :wavey:

I've already said this once before, but F-Lo is living proof Spaniards don't hate grass (despite the fact there are no grass courts in Spain) and it's only a matter of time before the second Spaniard, after Manolo Santana in 1966, wins at the All-England Club.

Marat played sooooooooo bad. Most of his game was off.

It was hardly Lopez "thrashes" anyone. The match turned on a couple of points.

Marat doesn't convert either break-point in the first set, doesn't convert either break-point in the second set, Lopez coverts a break-point in the first set, gets a mini-break point in the second set tiebreak. And that's two sets gone for Marat. Then he doesn't care anymore.

Feli played a very smart match, forced Safin to have to make almost incrediblepassing shots. Plus that lefty powerful serve got him out of trouble if he was down.

Great run for Marat, but just faced a better player on grass today.

Feli is looking good, plus Nadal was in the stands what more can I ask for

Well done Feli! My favorite was Safin, but he didn't play well. Hope Feli make another surprise during the tournament! I really wouldn't like to see Federer having a easy time to get throught the finals! I don't know but I don't quite enjoy myself watching matches on grass, there's no many emotions as on clay. Just my opinion!

Yes, I was hoping that this would be Marat's year to make a good run at Wimby.
This would help his confidence and attitude on grass.
Now if he misses the U.S. Open because of his knee, then maybe the rest of his year will be in the tank.

You have obviously never seen Lopez on grass. He is an untipical Spanish player who is, defacto, a grass-court specialist. He was always strong on grass and Federer almost lost to him in 4th round in 2003, when he won his first slam.

I still expected Safin is going to win this - but he is still unpredictable as he always was, and grass is still not his surface.

And I don't think Safin had a good run on Wibledon - 3rd round? That's a failure if you ask me... After Halle finals, this comes as a dissapointment for him.

I never had a doubt watching that match about Roger winning it easily. Even when down 0-3 in 3rd set he always gave the impression of having all under control.
Having said this, grass is where López can achieve nice results, anyway, he better enjoys this win, cause Mario will kick his ass.

PD: Btw, what a player Nole is ;)

That was a really good match from FLo. Safin had no answers to the big serve and the effective chip and charge from FLo. I was rooting for Safin but have to admit, FLo played quite smart. Safin got quite unnerved by the volleying and could not come back with good passing shots.

Hope you do better in the US Open Safin.

F. Lo did play good, but Marat was nothing like what he was in the first two rounds as Fedex pointed out. I haven't got the chance to see the match but my brother mentioned that Safin looked really sluggish. Maybe the humid conditions didn't suit him.

Hey I can excuse Marat's game today ;)

The first two matches were played in hot dry weather. This made the ball bounce much higher and allowed the ball to bounce to Marat's comfort zone. Today, due to overcast conditions, the ball kept low and Marat had problems scooping it out. Remember, he hates bending down.

How is that for a good excuse? :D

I watched the match and Marat had absolutely no chance on LaLo´s first serve, didn´t have a clue about how to handle it. At return games, when he managed to put the ball in play, López mostly waited for Safin to take risks and commit the ue. Simple game plan but also effective as expected here.

Safin is overrated. He can play very well when he's on but he's off more often then his is on, also his mental toughness is lacking. He's one of the top players, but this is pretty much how his career is going to be, maybe a couple more slam wins but nothing too surprising. Some of his fans think he's going to achieve a lot more then he's capable of!
