Gimelstob takes lucky loserdom to new heights as he beats two Grass Gods in a row (Garcia & Massu) to make the 3rd round.

as long as Lleyton stays solid, he'll meet Gimelstob in R3

h2h is 1-1, both matches in 98

Gimelstob is like a poor man's Mardy Fish. He's had some wins over top players in the past, but he's terribly inconsistent. Will be a toss up if he meets Hewitt, esp. since Lleyton is coming back from injuries and getting married in less than a month/inpending fatherhood.

sore foot/sore ribs will def take out bad back/sore legs (and whatever else Justin's got going on these days), but Justin's made some money this week and that's always good. :D

i don't think that guys who pull out on purpose at 0-1 in the third round of a qualifying match should be given LLs. that's just poor gamesmanship

Well, by retiring in his final quallies match, Gimelstob allowed Bastl to get into the tournament.

Maybe now Bastl's supposed to give Gimelstob a 10% fee? ;)

Apparently the ITF told him to do it. Not that I disagree with you, but it seems he's not entirely fault.

Borin match except for a couple of points, if Gonzo loses today then we'll finally be able to see good matches in Latin America at least one day out of two, instead of clay courters struggling on grass :o

Wow, really? Seems like a strange thing to do with fans watching and all. Then again, the fans didn't pay to get in, so I guess they would have no reason to complain.

Well, I don't think my poor Nico is a Grass God, more like clay but a god nontheless. In truth Nico skipped the pre Wimbly grass tournys so I don't think he had great expectations here. That said, I had thought he would pull this one off. :tears:

Congrats to Gimelstob.

Yes, Justin had already told Bastl that he could not play the match (back spasms, etc), but an ITF Official apparently asked him to take the court and give it a try, even if it was just for one game. Justin did what he was asked. I don't know if he would have been eligible for the lucky loser spot if he hadn't taken the court, but once he got that spot he was able to take advantage of the trainers and facilities at the All-England, who were apparently working on him right up to his first round match.

I've never seen anyone get so antsy that they started to beat themselves with their own racquet between points. They interviewed Gimelstob on ESPN and he lifted his shirt to show the bruise he left on his chest.

How about a little goodsportmanship here. Its one thing to happy when you're player wins but another when you just take pleasure in another losing.

Just so you know, Fernando did win the Boodles challange exhibition last week so he is actaully playing well on grass.

Just an update...Fena just won in straight sets. Guess that's pretty good 'struggling' on his part... :D

Wasn't that just bizarre? I thought the guy had Touretts (sp?) or something. The Headline should read, "Gimelstob beats himself and Massu" or "Gimelstob beats his meat at Wimbledon"

Nice one, certainly a good result for Gimelstob that he can need :yeah:

For Massu, it's just another loss at the 1st/2nd round Grand Slam stage... will he ever make it at least to a 4th round at any Grand Slam? :help:

Massu is just conserving his energy for the 2008 Summer Olympics. If last year's effort was any indication, he'll need it.

BTW, what is a "super moderator?"

Do you ever seen Gonzo play before?????
Fernando is an all-court player, maybe his titles don't reflect this, but he can adapt his game to any surface... anyway he destroys Zib today and I hope he can reach the QF this year.

Brad Gilbert said he was worried about Gimelstob's GF when he saw him beating himself at every point.BG knows Gimelstob's girlfriend & was obviously joking. Mary Joe also knows her very well & laughed at that comment.

I thought that was an odd comment from Brad. Why would Corrina be worried that he was beating his chest? Must say, when JG lifted his shirt I was a bit impressed, he has lost some weight and looks pretty fit around the tummy.

Unfortunately, the run stops here for Justin vs. the #1 Aussie.
