But seriously, Vinny Ice was pretty badly injured and apparently didn't even really play or practice much going into Wimby. I suppose it was nice of him to try, but from what everyone said, he was not fit to play.

although spadea apparently was serving in the 80-90mph range and couldn't even hit normal shots from the baseline

Spadea was injured and it was pretty obvious in the last two set. He was only serving at 90-100 MPH. He got a medical timeout and they were massaging his back.

Okay, so Vince was injured. But how did Rafael play? (Hoping that the chourus of Nadal only won because Spadea was injured will not start) It sounded on the radio that he was actually doing pretty well and was not afraid to come to the net.

Yea, good question? Anyone care to answer? Debtron5000?

Spadea had pain in lower back from second set. He only realy played in the first set, which was tight, and afterwards it was easy for Nadal.

But Nadal didn't impress me at all. He will stand no chance against a grass-court specialist... He plays similar as he does on clay, but ofcourse is much less effective on this surface... and his serve is very breakable - although Spadea was not the man to prove that today.

Thus, as we haven't seen Nadal play against a true grass courter, you're speculating a bit early here. However, I think the 6-5 giant from Luxemburg will prove to be a much bigger threat than an injured Spadea. I hope at least Rafa makes it through for a rematch with Gasquet though.

It was all about luck, this time an injured player... how typical

I think Rafa did pretty good. Spadea wasn't complaining at all, it was his doctor, or whomever went to massage him, that reminded him: "hey, you got pain!" because he was being eaten by Nadal. I hope Nadal really does well, it would be great.

I think he looked wicked today; I prefer the zippy sleeveless shirt to the normal Nike ones.

And if you think Rafa looks girly, you need to check out Hrbarty's top he wore at Roma this year- it had breast cutouts!!

Oh yeah, Rafa did play well, but I'd have liked to see him come to the net a little bit more, but then, he just did enough to win, didn't waste too much energy- sensible match.
I was also impressed with the pressure he was able to put on Spadea's serve from the outset- before his back really started to give out.

I didn't see the match but followed it via the live scoreboard, it seemed like Rafa's serve has improved. He didn't double fault at all and only had 1 break point which he saved. Compare that to the way he was struggling to hold about every set at RG just 3-4 weeks ago. 8 unforced errors is only 2 and 1/3 per set...

If he can keep up the serving and tidy play, I think he stands an excellent chance of reaching the 3rd round and having a really competive match against Gasquet (assuming Richard also makes it that far).

Rafa :hearts:

I was shocked that they allowed him to wear that outfit. Then again one of the officials who told one of the guys to put his shirt back on in centre court told a very attractive lady that there were always exceptions to that rule. LMFAO

Good match for Rafa, even though Vincent was injured.

Still think he'll get eaten alive by a Roddick/Ancic/Federer or even Timmy ol' Boy.

I think it might be Gasquet who does the job in R3

i was not majorly impressed with Nadal either. he did not play badly but there was nothing that made me think he might be a serious challenge to any of the top grass players. he was impressive IMO only bec Spadea was that bad.
