Turned up his serving with 12 aces in the last two sets and broke Beck's rather weak serve quite a few times even with his poor returning game. Good work Flip!

Great result!

First set was weird, Mark was more comfy breaking Beck than holding his serve

I hoped he'd win, but didnt think he'd be able to get through in straights (let alone without having to play any tb's!)

Absolute amazing power from Flipper...the commentators said he's never seen such a display of power and brutality, even from Sampras in his prime. Federer, Roddick, Hewitt beware!

Congrats Scud!
A really overall good match, especially how he managed to stay in the first set despite Beck seemed to have the edge in the returning games as he returned Mark's serve pretty well and his first serve points won percentage was only about 50% I guess.

Strong serves, determined and offensive play, good volleys.... That's how grasscourt tennis has to be celebrated and exercised :inlove: I didn't see it completely, but what I saw was very entertaining for me! :yeah:

Bad luck for Beck that he didn't get a more ordinary first round match up. For my taste he was beaten under value today and couldn't show that he was a better player than the bare scoreline would suggest.

Well, that display was more awesome than Federer's performance against Roddick in the semi 2 years ago...nobody would have beaten Flip today

Mark's stats are very, very similar to Marat's today. :)

Yep, I heard Marat's performance was equally as impressive. Those two are undoubted 2 of the most talented players on the tour along with Federer

Phenomenal 2nd and 3rd set from mark!!! He was still finding his range and rythm in the first set and to fight through the amazing returns of beck proved mark is ready and focussed. I watched some of his matches at ordina last week and in all honesty had serious doubts about his game coming into wimbledon but i can say without doubt todays effort was some of the best tennis mark has played in over 2 years... he wasnt anywhere near as sharp last year, and i dont know where its come from but im sure as hell happy to see the old mark back.

the safin match will be awesome, mark really wants this and if safin wins he will have to play pretty darn good. bring it on!!

Maybe it'll be a bit like Goran in 2001 in which for two weeks he suddenly was back to his best for no obvious reason. And we all remember that Flip at his best was smacking Sampras around no problem. Scary prospect.

It's just a real shame he and Marat will have to face up so early.
