Olivier played really well. He stepped up to the baseline and read Ivo's serve correctly a lot and just unleashed when he got a racket on it.

The handshake was very cute :D

Ivo was clearly tired and double faulted more than expected. He had no 2nd serve double faults, so it wasn't a mechanical thing.

The Rochus first serve percentage boggles the mind. How can a guy that small win so many first serve points? He apparently doesn't have a big serve. Karlovic exposed Ljubicic's first serve, but not Rochus.

Good run Karlovic. Unfortunately, you have temporarily made my main vBet black list.

Ivo could barely return serve. He made so many errors into the net or hitting returns wide. Even on second serves he was just dumping backhands into the net. Olivier just stood back and watched errors fly by on his service games.

Ivo I'm sure was tired.

He played alot of three setters in this tourney.

I'm confident in his abilities to bounce back against the qualifier at Wimbledon.

Ivo was clearly tired and double faulted more than expected. He had no 2nd serve double faults, so it wasn't a mechanical thing. What is a '2nd serve double fault' exactly? Anyway, Karlovic has played a ton of tennis lately and is not in that great shape. It's no surprise if he was tired.

Karlovic exposed Ljubicic's first serve, but not Rochus.Oli was appareltny playing very well, apparently Ljubicic was not. Oli backs up his serve extremely well and runs down every ball, much better than Ljubicic does. Plus, Ivo is truly a horrific returner.

Anyway, congrats Oli :hug::hug:

2nd serve double fault is a stat on the scoreboard I was viewing during the match.

If you followed the match via Nottingham scoreboard you wouldn't noticed it.

Ljubicic isn't known to be a grass player, and I don't doubt that Rochus moves better than Ljubcic as well.

Karlovic returned 35% of Ljubicic serves for winners yesterday, underlining his capability to do so and the unreliability of the Ljubicic grass serve.

I don't know.

It was on the scoreboard so you'd have to take it up with the Nottingham scoreboard runners.

I'm looking at the scoreboard from nottingham right now. There is no stat called 2nd serve double fault. lol.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'm just happy for my fellow vertically challeneged Oli:D

Oliver is just such a smart player and he always plays so intelligently against Ivo. He knows that he might have one or two chances to break and he concentrates on his own serves and is patient. I knew I should've put more vcash on Ollie:)

Yeah, there's isn't one.

Just double fault.

But he had 9, Rochus only had 2 so it shows disparity in time on court.

Yeah, how did talent own power?

He still cranked 26 aces.

He's just lucky he had the positive mind frame to win so many 2nd serve points.

Otherwise, Karlovic steam rolls in the tiebreaks.

Yeah, Croat123 is really passionate of Ivo.

But Nadal is a good player.

But don't put stock in his grass get YET.

He can develop the other aspects. But right now, it's speed and lob BABY!

No more than a 3rd round advancement in his advanced placement class test for Wimby for the baby boomer.

That's amazing. I would have liked to see that match. I am just trying to visualize the height difference when they shook hands at the net.

If Rochus could beat Karlovic then why couldn't Hewitt? Hewitt is one the best returners.

LH is better at everything, but I don't think he was match ready. He hadn't played in so long that he didn't have the rhythm that he needed. I was wondering if they would put Ivo up against LH and I thought that LH would beat him this time around if the matchup did happen.

Rochus cuts Karlovic down to size
Thursday, June 16, 2005 Posted: 2033 GMT (0433 HKT)

Karlovic was cut down to size after reaching the final at Queen's Club

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Belgium's Olivier Rochus cut Croatian giant Ivo Karlovic back down to size to with a 7-6 6-7 6-4 quarterfinal victory at the Nottingham Open on Thursday.

On a day of upsets, defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan was shown the exit door 6-3 4-6 6-0 by rising French hope Richard Gasquet.

And second seed Thomas Johansson was forced to quit while trailing 6-3 1-0 against American Taylor Dent.

In a battle between the tallest and shortest players on the ATP tour, Rochus managed to gain the only break of the match in the third set to end Karlovic's challenge.

The Croatian, who is considered an outside bet for the Wimbledon title, had entered the contest as the favorite after reaching his first final at the Stella Artois Championships last week.

But the 2.08 meter Karlovic simply could not find a way to penetrate the serve of his 1.65 meter tall opponent and surrendered his title hopes.

"I didn't expect to win this match because he is one of the best players in the world on grass," Rochus admitted to reporters.

"But it doesn't matter whether I am playing a guy who is 10ft tall or one foot tall. I just play the ball and focus on trying to hold my serve... (and) I served well and played well from the baseline."

Sweden's Johansson faces a race to get fit in time for Wimbledon, which begins on Monday, after he was forced to abandon his contest against Dent with a right groin injury.

Despite his obvious discomfort, the 2002 Australian Open champion said he was hopeful of playing his first round match at the All England Club next Tuesday.

In Friday's semifinals, Rochus will play Max Miryni of Belarus, 7-6 6-4 victor over Dane Kenneth Carlsen, while Gasquet takes on Dent.

YES! I FINALLY HAVE AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTION: WHO CAN BREAK KARLOVIC'S SERVE!!!
How could I forget about Ollie? He's THE giant killer. Honestly, Ollie has a way with tall guys with big serves. He's got more chances to win against them than against Santoro.
Karlovic's knees must still hurt from bending down after the handshake.
