I think it will be very funny match. Maybe Rochus will stand 3  meters behind baseline

Yeah, but this is grass...ball bouncing is higher then on hard.

I thought it bounced lower on grass, no? Anyway, it's funny to see that Olivier has beaten Ivo on fast courts, while Ivo beat him on a clay court! Good luck Oli! :yeah:

Fast courts are better for Ivo but also for Olivier. Olivier does much better on hard and on grass usually, but indeed it's funny.

Exactly, normally it's lower. That's also a reason why kick serves on grass with a lot of spin on them aren't as frequently played as on other surfaces, because they just don't bounce as high as on clay or on hardcourt and therefore they aren't as effective.

The only time the ball bounce on a serve on grass can be higher than on other surfaces is if you hit a scrawny spot on the court with (almost) no grass on it anymore or if you simply have a bad bounce which can happen from time to time on a natural and used underground.

it is interesting to see that rochus has won on the faster surfaces and ivo on clay, but this is grass. oliver barely beat ivo in miami and that was when ivo was playing his worst tennis in years. rochus might have one or two chances to break and if he doesn't take them, ivo will win in straight sets.

Oli has already beaten him once this year, I'm sure he can figure out how to do it on grass this time. ;)

Olivier is playing VERY well this week and he watched the last set of Ivo's match today. He knows what to expect...he is a good returner and Ivo had his moments today where he struggled with EVERY aspect of his game. As usual, Ollie has to concentrate on holding serve, then he can focus on the break. If Ivan can break Ivo's serve, Ollie can more than do that. Plus, Ivan had many opportunities to win in the 3rd set today and he didn't take them...Ollie would have done. I reckon Ollie could shock him.

I am amazed that Olivier has been able to handle Ivo and his serve. He is one short but talented player. I hope he will surprise us tomorrow (or whenever the match is played.)

Rochus has just the weapon Karlovic cannot deal with - low, fast shots. Im still confident Karlovic will come through but dont wipe out rochus just yet...

He has more than enough talent on display right now to hold his own serves...if he gets to tiebreaks though then yeah he is screwed probably...

What happened with the man on your avatar, Robredo, Coria... when tried to play on grass? This surface has it's own logic... :umbrella:

yes, but he makes himself feel better about the guy in his avatar by pointing out how the players who are winning on grass (except roger cause it would be too much of a stretch) lack talent

A good service is some kind of talent after all! :p But no doubt most of good grass players really sucks. Thats why I think Fed is the greatest player - only he could be number one ot every surface. It doesn't matter the guy in Deivid23's avatar is N1 on clay in the moment. ;)

The ball bounces lower on grass actually, but as most would agree; Rochus has no chance in this match.

I think Oli has a chance on grass against Karlovic.
He's very good on grass: here are the facts:

* In 1997 Oli reached the semi-finals in the juniors tournament. In 1998 he won the double titles on grass at Wimbledon and Roehampton accompagnied by the young Roger Federer (okay, this also may be quite some explanation why he won the doubles tournament. ;) )
* In 2000 he reached the 3rd rounbd, beating nr. 2 Magnus Norman
* In 2002 he reached the 3rd round, beating Safin (ranked nr. 1)
* In 2003 he got to the 4th round, beating nr. 3 Coria (but that's not really an achievement on grass)

He has the capacity of playing well on grass, plus he's in great shape. Marat Safin told journalists in Halle previous week that he's maybe playing better than he ever did. And... he had to put out a great fight to beat Rochus in the quarter-finals: 4-6, 6-7 (4)

So IMO Oli has quite a chance of beating Karlovic on grass. Hopefully David will beat Goliath again!

How is Rochus going to return Karlovic serve?

A: He isn't.

He won 35% of the return points against Ljubicic which isn't a big stat, doesn't jump out at me.

So, if he doesn't break Rochus and goes to 3 sets he will garner at least 30 aces.

At least 20 if 2 sets.

This will be very fun to follow on the live scoreboard.

Olivier is playing really well. He is really taking on Ivo's serve. He's not standing far back and when he gets a racket on it he is just unleashing on it.

7-6 6-7 6-4

So he broke Ivo at least once ;)
Another great result this year for the youngest Rochus, I wish him the best of luck in his next match! :yeah:

Well the problem wasn't Rochus' return game, the key was 63% 2nd serve points on the match for Rochus.

He gets the most out of his serve, like a Henin-Hardenne.

Ivo just couldn't crack his serve all day long.

Only picked up 1 break point believe all match.

He did much better in all of these categories and held the Ljubicic serve in check his previous match.

I guess flexibility and quickness are spawned formally in Belgium.

Rochus really impressed me today.
