Mariano will be part of the Argentine Davis Cup Team playing on grass in Australia the week before Umag. He obviously didn't know this when he first put Umag into his schedule, but now I guess he feels that he needs some time off before embarking on another tournament.

Dear Juan Carlos, you can't play a tourney avoid Nadal?!

 why is this tournament such a strong field compares to Generali which is a ISG?

If Juan Carlos keeps entering the same tournament Nadal plays, he better starts winning some sets from Rafa. :p

Hey guys!

While I'm all newbie in here I just wanna pull my first
Thread in here ...
I'll be in UMAG this year and I already have tickets
for 3 days of the tournament! Hopefully the draw will
stay that good!

I read that the matches in Umag start at 6 in the evening?!
Is that true?! How can they pull a whole tourney through while
just playing in the nightsessions?!

Anyway, maybe I meet some of the Pros in a club late at night
drinking ... then i'll try to find a internet café to post y'all who
to bet against the other day! ;)

Have a good one!

Here's the article from marca.com:

My Spanish isn't perfect but I think Toni Nadal said they have thought about not playing Umag, depending on Rafa's result at Stuttgart. It seems mainly about Rafa's goal to be No 2 in the world so he won't have to play Federer until the final and about how he can overtake Hewitt in the rankings before the USO since Hewitt reached the QFs at Toronto and the final at Cincy last year while Rafa lost 1st round at both.

I also checked Umag's website and Rafa is still on the player list.

Just pull out already Nadal and let someone else win a clay title for a change this year...

On the Croatia Open Website, Nadal is still listed.
But i guess this doesn't proof anything - it's just
some way of "Public Relations" for the tournament.

If the officials there already know that Nadal is not playing
they still wouldn't put it in the NEWS on their homepage
becuase they still want to sell tickets!

I think I'll still hav 3 nice tournamentdays down there -
with or without Rafa! But I'd love to watch him play live!

still got some tests to write before i can leave for Croatia!

Hi Pixeltraum,
Enjoy your time in Umag. I don't know if you've been to Croatia ever before, but I can guarantee it's a beautiful country with amazing landscapes and friendly climate. I've never been directly in Umag though, but from what my tennis-playing friends say, it's one of the tourneys you're gonna see players drinking with umpires at the discos for sure. So I hope the nightsessions won't finish too late.
Besides, there's pretty good alcohol in Croatia.

RDucky was right, Ivan is NOT playing Umag, he has a back injury and will rest till Canada. Umags original entry list was very good but now it is not that strong.
