The scary thought is that Hewitt very often loses to an eventual champion.

Certainly well done for Karlovic reaching this final here and beating people like Hewitt and ToJo on his way, actually breaking their serves, too.

Neither do I want to miss this big servefest. I hope it doesn't interfere too much with the Halle final tomorrow.

ivo should such great mental strength. hit an ace on tojo set point at 4-5

he was up 6*-4 in the tiebreak and tojo's return landed just on the outside of the line for a return winner
tojo got up set point and ivo hit his best second serve of the match right on the line
and he was able to finally win it on tojo's serve.

ivo did a great job on the return today, tojo didn't have many easy holds

Well done to Karlovic. I also think he is quite a bit better from the baseline than last year, and his serve and volley are superb like always. Certainly has a chance tomorrow.

Karlovic serve is a monster, but another reason for his success is his net-game. Johanson failed quite often to give him troubles on the net even when he had a chance... Same story as with Hewitt the other day... Karlovic has a specific net game that is under-rated - he never tries risky volleyng, he only block ball back so it bounces low, and many players don't come to terms with this.

His serve only would not be enough to bring him this far... And he also had some luck to be honest. So it's not all about serve actually, although it is ofcourse the base of his game.

But, Johansson also had SO many looks at passing shots and almost every time he went cross-court instead of down the line. if he had gone down the line more - much more - I think he would've been able to break Karlovic. he was close as it was. He had 0-30 and 15-30 here and there and had good looks, and a BP that was a set point where he missed a shot. It's not like Johansson had no chances at all. He just didn't take the ones he had, and obviously that takes a mental toll at some point.

Karlovic served an ace on the setpoint, so no chance for Johansson there, but he certainly did make some inroads in return games and missed a few returns that he might have made on another day. He seemed a little jaded, perhaps from the long matches he's had this week - it was a rusty game he played to get broken at the very beginning, although Karlovic connected with some good groundstrokes too.
