If you saw my Roland Garros countdown, you'll know I enjoy build up :D That's why I've made this in June, despite the tournament being mid/late October :D. I just love the place! Will do my best to get there again this year..

Is this actually a challenger, or a future?

It is a challenger, but I believe they hold a satellite there also, much earlier in the year.

Hi

I am the Tournament Director for the Southampton Challenger in October
(there is still an event taking place from 2nd - 9th October in Bolton
but that is now a Men's $10k and a Women's $25k event).

Your thread at Steve g is probably going to be deleted. What info are you looking for? The entry list for this week of Challengers won't be out until the week of Spet 26th (but I'm sure you knew that because you can count to 21 right?).

Awful reception at steveg for andy, all those rude comments by the guests and other posters. It was totally out of order, i wouldnt have thought that would happen on a forum like steveg.

Dont think i will bother going to be honest after seeing the list  Only 1/2 players i actually like. And the list is only gonna get alot alot worse in the few weeks running up to the torunament.

Also bad news from uni, it seems my hours are about double last year  So on monday/tuesday i have full day of lectures  I was hoping to have 2 or so, and just skip them.

But we will see, might just go and take some photos.

Also, the LTA always seem to make the main draw AFTER qualifying and thus rearrange the seeding, unlike most others, eg. Denmark who made the main draw BEFORE the qualifying has even started. - Aren't there rules to determine the correct procedure. Why should tournaments be different depending on who is the host?

Hi Guys and Gals

Looking forward to an interesting tournament and hoping that some of the Brits can make an impression.

May I draw your attention to the new website of David Sherwood, British Tennis player, this can be viewed at www.davidsherwood.net

The website has been designed to give people who want to follow David's career an opportunity to keep more up to date with the story behind the results and to ask questions or enquire of David himself.

It is also intended to give a shop window to organisations that sponsor David, and to generate sponsors for David.

As you may be aware David receives currently virtually no funding with the exception of prize money and his existing one off sponsorship arrangement with Champs.

David's Coach (Gary Henderson ) has recently moved away from Sheffield for personal reasons and so we as David's Management company are trying to assist David in generating sponsors to give him the backing to compete on the world tour.

British tennis fans may also enjoy the Top 500 list of Britain's optimistic but often disappointed band of players in the Top 500 and their weekly progress. :)

Anyway, Thanks for reading & I hope you find a minute to view the site, and would welcome your feedback and any ideas for improvements. It is very much a work in progress and will change & improve as time goes on.

I thank in advance the comedians who support other players for their thoughtful and wise comic asides in reply. :haha:

Oh Nathalia, its worse than that.

Michael broke twice in the tie break and led 5-1 and then had two match points at 6-4. Pequery was going mad and shouting at himself, then Michael missed the first mp on Pequery's serve and then missed the second on his own serve for 6-6. He conceded another mini break, so now Pequery served for the match at 7-6 and he won it with an ace- 8-6.

Michael was pretty pi**ed I can tell you.

Met Uros Vico and some of the other Italians at the tournament and they were great. Uros is a wild man. At the end of the 1st set of his second round match I looked over at the court, and they are packing up.

I had seen Uros arguing with the umpire a lot and now the game is over and he is having a blazing row with the umpire, 'the lighting is crap, the courts have bumps in them, the umpire's not watching' etc etc

So I'm thinking 'Oh no Uros has got disqualified' I spoke to an official and said 'what's happened to Uros?'

The official said Oh his opponent is injured and has had to retire, so I said: "why is he arguing then", 'Oh well you know what the italians are like' said the official with a shrug, 'he was just angry!!!'

Also had a great time at the players party, Uros and the other Italians were in a team for the quiz night (think there was just Galvani and the other one who played doubles with James auckland). They were hilarious, for several of the questions they said we know the answer in Italian but not in English!!
For the picture round there was a picture of Freddie Flintoff, and you had to identify who it was; Uros answer: "James Auckland".

Needless to say they didnt win but great bunch of guys and they all watch each other's games and support each other so when there is an Italian playing it's a bit like a home game!!

Oh thank you for your reports. All this behaviour is so typical for this man. I only hope he didn't get too much frustrated and still could enjoy himself at players' party. I already have written it, but I'll do once again, the David Sherwood website is very smooth :yeah:

Well done Jerome! Come on, now the final!!!!

He is definetely my favourite for this tournament!

He seemed to be in great form these last few events, have a look, semis in Grenoble lost to Enqvist, semis in Mons lost to O. Rochus (both in 3 set), and this week final or winner!! wow

Finally, after the event, the LTA provides a website -- very useful  2 results and nothing more. Plus, they got the doubles score incorrect.
