Go SAFIN :worship:

Unfortunately Alexander made it way too easy for Safin in this match with so many unforced errors and crappy shots. I had high hopes in him he would play better than this crappy performance :sobbing: Looked like a shadow of former times compared to what I've already seen of him on the grasscourts :( :banghead:

I hope Popp will regain some grasscourt strength soon

That's his first grasscourt win since 2002.

Too bad he'll probably get Santoro in the next round and then Olivier Rochus after that (if he survives round 2!).

I saw the match too and I really was cheering for Safin, but Neely is right, it was just an awful performance of Popp, Safin wasn't very impressive.

(And Safin's knee injury didn't 't look good at all. He touched his knee a few times with a worried face.)

That's a nice win for Marat. I hope his knee is okay and he has a nice grass court season.

I hope Denise brings Marat some good luck again like in Oz. :D ;)

And LOL at Vass.

Well done.

And Marat said at RG that the knee tendonitis is permanent, he'll be playing with it till the rest of his career.

Forget my posting, Denise, it sounded way too negative. I was worried because of his knee and I found he didn't move very well today for example. But of course he was not so bad, otherwise he wouldn't have won 6-3 6-2. He just controlled the match and didn't have to raise his level today.

lina... Popp is the guy in my avatar. Click on his name in my sig to find out more.

If I was a safin fan, and not taking away from this because a win is a win, I wouldn't be THAT overwhelmed by this performance. It's Alexander Popp after all. He's been off since around USO time last year. First competitive match on grass (correct me if i'm wrong) and it's really not surprising. When he beats someone who's been dominant and consistent,,, then it'll be worthy of the :worship: ;)

Great news for Safin.

Aside from the knee, he can breeze through to finals here.

Santoro is next. Lucky Marat

"After my my fourth or fifth victory against him, whenever he saw me, he put his hands on his head and said "No, please, not him!". He teases me too: "So, Santoro, still got your slice?" or " Tell me, you've been on the tour for a long time. Don't you think it would be a good time to stop now?". He's a nice guy, and I find that our matches bring us closer."

Fabrice Santoro

Like 5 or 6 of Santoros 7-1 H2H came from 01 and further back.

Safin is having his best year arguably if you break down his GS success.

No chance for "The Magician" here.

Safin is quoted saying "playing Santoro is like being told you're gonna die".. just playing to the media again.

Safin doesn't like Santoro's high lobs back into play, his game is adjusted this year.

He knows he can take him down and is having a far superior season
