If you want to know what Gasquet will tell to Nadal at the end of the match, check the sig.
(Let's just hope Richie won't be kidnapped by someone who wants him to sit on her face before that...)

have to give the edge to nadal, if nothing else because of the homepressure on Richard

I saw the matches today and Richard seems to be a slow starter, slow getting into the match. if they each play how they did today, then i assume nadal will win in straights

yea, I think he mistyed it. Nadal in 4 but could be 3, I will say 4 just to be conservative. Gasquet is good maybe one of the best on clay at the moment but, Nadal is ready to be a world champion...

 he was being sarcastic

Nadal will win, probably in 4 sets. He's looked a lot better than Gasquet in their 2 matches, and has the mental edge. The longer the match goes on the more it suits Nadal, Gasquet needs to be ripping winners all over the place if he's going to beat him, and I just can't see him playing to the level he needs to over a 5 set match.

mitalidas
05-25-2005, 05:28 PM
No, sir. Nothing much Salieri can do against Mozart.

precisely..... so therefore you mean Nadal will show Djukovic how to give a triple bagel
not Gasquet will show how to give a triple bagel

I think Nadal in 3, but not 3 bagels

well, sarcasm could be valid if this was nadal versus random qualifier
but nadal versus Gasquet is a toss up and posters have wide ranging opinions on who'll win and how (see the results of the poll)

so your sarcasm was quite misplaced .... hey, I thought you had so little confidence in your guy that in your post you really did believe Gasquet would win :)

Statistically, I'll say Nadal.

If Gasquet decides to play his very best tennis, I'll say it's a toss up. Gasquet had a very good opportunity to beat Nadal in Monte Carlo, but we saw exhaustion defeat Gasquet. If he has the energy and plays great tennis, we're in for a great match.

Nadal is a Davis Cup winner, 2 x Masters Series winner, 6 x ATP titles. Gasquet has won nothing. Nadal is on a 19 match winning streak and has won both meetings with Gasquet on clay. Don't get me wrong, Gasquet is very talented and has the potential to win but Nadal is firm favourite.

Talking a bit more seriously, you´re completely right. Of course Gasquet can win Nadal on Friday, but that match is way far from being a 50/50 (I don´t take Mitalidas too seriously, maybe he was lost with his English). Nadal is a clear favourite there.

Home pressure? First, he's underdog... and I tend to believe pressure will be nothing compared to the support he will receive from the crowd...

I voted for Gasquet just to help him in the poll. Can Gasquet win? Definitely. Will he? Probably not, because Nadal is the big favorite, is more consistent and won't have the homepressure - unless the French crowd decides to help him unlike they did with Monfils. :o

I voted Gasquet in 5, but realistically? Nadal in 3 or 4, but close sets (6-4 is a close set against Nadal on clay, btw). I'd be clearly rooting for Gasquet, though.

My comments are based in 10 years living in the US... it is very unfortunate but it is like that. (my opinion).

I think Gasquet does not have any weapons to beat Nadal at all, if something, he has the advantage of being at home and that helps most of the time.

Gasquet has the ability to trouble Rafa. But as MC showed, Rafa is the bigger fighter, and is much stronger physically. If Gasquet wants to win he's going to have to be firing winners continously, and he won't be able to do it over a 5 set match.

Well, usually Spanish players do better at home, and so do all soccer teams...I would think that this is an advantage...

What happenend in Monte Carlo with SF? He probably played against a better player and people don't forgive their players being upset at home. Also, Nadal is a fighter, if he encounters rejection that could help him getting the edge.

Definitely Rafa is a bigger fighter. No doubt about that.
At Monte Carlo, you have also to remember Richard went through qualies and Federer and was quite tired before playing against Nadal.

Richard Gasquet will win in 4 sets, I think he had the match against Federer too much in his mind last time. He has the right game to beat Nadal (aggresive backhand is very important), also the crowd will be totaly crazy and the court is pretty fast compared to montecarlo. I like them both, but Gasquet is definetly my favorite.

Q. Are you going to practice with a left‑hander tomorrow?

RICHARD GASQUET: (In French.) No. I'm playing doubles with Gael tomorrow, but I know how to play Nadal. I've played against him. I know what to do and I know how to beat him. I will not try to train with a lefty tomorrow. I don't need that to play against Nadal.

Are you serious?

Saying "I know how to beat him" doesn't mean "I'm gonna beat him" and I don't see any cockiness in his words...
Gasquet used to own Nadal when they were juniors...They know each other perfectly. He showed in Monte Carlo that he definitely had weapons to beat Nadal...
These are facts. Anybody saying the opposite is not objective.

But if you judge a tennis player on words and not on his game, that's perfectly your right.

Gasquet will lose because he is a cocky bitch!!!!
Cocky ???

Q. What do you think about the Nadal thing, if you're going to play against him in the next round?

RICHARD GASQUET: (In French.) I will need to play fantastically if I want to win against Nadal because he's a great player. I will need to be extremely focused, to be in very good physical shape. It will have to be the perfect match on my side because otherwise I will not win.

I see no cockiness in his words at all. "I know how to play Nadal" doesn't translate to "I will beat Nadal". Now, there's a difference.

savesthedizzle

Nadal in 4. I think he'll win the first set when he gets out to a fast start and that one break early will be enough for the first set, the second set I imagine will be close, I could see either one of them breaking at 4-4 or 5-5 and taking the set, but I would guess Nadal. Gasquet takes the third when Rafa has a short mental lapse in concentration, and then Nadal finishes him off in the fourth.

Well, that's my prediction anyways...

Q. Most people seem to be tipping Nadal, but you've seen Gasquet at
Monte-Carlo. What can you see in his game that's so special? >

MARAT SAFIN: He's typical French player. He has beautiful technique, good
serve. He can do everything. He can volley. He can play on the baseline.

And Nadal is little bit -- he's incredible player from the baseline. Doesn't
miss one ball. He fights every single point. He doesn't have any huge
weapons, but he is there all the time, he is consistent, he is fighting and
he gonna be there forever.

Gasquet is more of a -- let's put it this way, more -- a nicer player, like
nice technique, you know. Just beautiful. It's nice to watch him.

But Nadal, he's pretty good in the head. Mentally, he's really good.

I hope that Nadal wins, but I don't know. There is an extra dimension to consider when he plays Gasquet, I believe, even if he goes out of his way to deny.

Marat would pay for having Nadal´s forehand as the huge weapon he says Rafa lacks.

Lucky he has a backhand twice as hard and a serve 5 times as powerful.

Unfortunately for him in the head-department he's trailing by light-years.

No. They'll postulate that he's just an eary developer who won't be much of anything in comparison to the others within a few years. Indeed that remains to be seen, but that is little more than wishful thinking. I am a broken record but it's all true ;)

Hewitt, btw, was still a skinny kid at 18. I don't think he learned to grow biceps until this year
