Andy's biggest win in 05'

Well, it hasn't been a great year but what was the biggest win?

Was it Haas in San Jose?
Maybe Moya at IW where Andy played great?
Grosjean in the finals of Houston?
Maybe recently when he beat Albert Costa?

Costa and Moya. Costa because I think it boosted Andy's confidence on clay.
Moya because he and Andy always have close matches and Andy always finds a way to pull through.

I agree with you, Jen :D

For me it wasn't a win but 'an almost win' against hewitt at IW. It was the most excting match of the year so far.

It was a really good match :yeah:

I agree..I was about to post the same thing. Of course it would have been better with a win...it was an exciting match to watch, and at least he stuck with Hewitt.

ok. Will the 5 set thriller win over Federer in Wimbledon 2005 count?

I would settle for a thrilling 4 set win over Federer to win Wimbledon.

No because that would belong in "The biggest win in the history of tennis thread...die die die...all you gm assholes that never thought Andy could win wimbly especially against Federer" thread...

I didn't see the two on clay but I'd pick the one against Moya. :) Those forehands. :worship:

With half a brain, he'd have 7 TITLES so far in 2005.
Predictably, he hated himself, had bad training, cracked his racket in Miami and injured his wrist.

Definitely!!! :yeah: He was just soooo close...

But I also loved the Costa match... ;)

As for Wimbledon, those predictions sound lovely! :)

Everywhere, the expectations are high for Hewitt & Federer.
Andy worries about them more than he worries about himself.
Hewitt/Federer did not play that well...they got their serves broken all the time.
But...Andy kept saying "I have no chance."
The fans say it's fine to be afraid of Hewitt/Federer, but Andy got tons worse when he had low expectations.

wait so basically what everyone is saying is that Andy hasn't had a big win in 05?

I think that's rather obvious, Ryan ;)

i think he has underachieved so far this year....until he wins a slam or a masters or takes out hewitt, nadal, federer b4 a final then i there wont be any big wins in my eyes. never mind a 4 set wimby thriller over federer...i would take any win over federer lol

For me, big win is like Marat taking on Fereder in the AO, Nadal taking on Coria in Rome.

Those are memorable matches and big wins. We are still to see the best of Andy 2005.

All of the "big matches" he has been in, he has lost. So yeah. :)

No surprise. He got away with the lazy pre-match activities---playing baseball & basketball instead of practicing, doing nothing with his fitness---in 2003.
It escalated into complete ignorance---no practice but casino gambling during the Australian Open, telling lies about being injured because he didn't want to play & when he played, he got worse and lost badly...

When that happens, the world will turn upside down.

Roddick hasn't had a big win in quite a while, I think.
His last significant tournament victory came in Miami last year,
and he hasn't done much since.
He beat Hewitt in Queens before Wimbledon,
but back then Hewitt was being considered a washout,
so that win (his first and only win so far vs. Hewitt) didn't carry that much weight.
I think his most recent "biggest" win has to be one over Safin at Masters Cup in Houston during round robin last year.
Two tiebreakers.

So far in 2005.... :o
I'm sure he's due for a headliner soon,
but a victory over Fed at Wimbledon or anywhere?
Hmm...

When has Andy been not a wash out?
Someone forgot the period between October 2003-April 2005--the crap period.
