So does it mean I have to sit at all his matches at Roland Garros and swear at him, to fit in with the mood of this thread? Oh - hang on - I usually swear during his matches anyway!!! One of my friends was shocked at my use of the "F***" word during his match with Santoro in Rome - I hardly ever swear but somehow that match drove me to it!!!!!!

Great thread title!

I have to say that lately watching David has reminded me of watchig the Cubs all of these years. Even though the Cubs can have the talent- through injuries or flubbing they don't always get the job done. When I watch and they boggle a ball, have yet another player injured, or lose the lead or game, it's kind of like "Oh well, that's our Cubbies" and then go get a beer from the fridge. I've kind of started that with David. I love him and all but when he gets out at the first round it's kind of "Oh well, that's our David."

Chicago Cubs- a baseball team. Haven't won a World Series since 1908 (that's the longest of any team) - haven't made it to the World Series since 1945.

They almost made it to the World Series in 2003. They were playing the best out of 7 and had three wins when they headed to Chicago for the last two games. Because of craziness that happened after a fan caught a foul ball in game 6- the team self destructed and lost that game and the next one. And I was there at the games at Wrigley Field in Chicago when they lost those two games. I cried off and on for at least a week. It was the only the third time I have seen my husband cry. That has set the standard for sports disappointments so luckily -the snafus with David have been cake.

I have noticed that not many people are mentioning David as a contender in the media so I think he may do a real good job and surprise people and go pretty far. After all- isn't it set in stone that if he enters a GS he will at least make it to the Quarters?

Thanks for the explanation Clara - I know nothing about baseball - I'm a football (soccer) girl myself! As for the "F***" word Tiff - I loathe swearing in normal conversation but it has been known under extreme provocation  - and David seems to provide that provocation!!!

I watched the Cubs and the Marlins tank their series. Such a shame, though. And the year before, the Red Sox were two outs away from getting to the World Series. What Little (was that his name?) did to Pedro was  to me.

I know- why do they have to meet so early? :( Between this and a potential Nada//Gasquet match in the third round (too early!) I am not pleased. Aaargh.
