Mardy Excited for French Open

After two weeks of rest since pulling out of the Telecom Italia Masters in Rome with a wrist injury, Mardy has undergone therapy and has been hitting this past week.

On Monday, he goes an MRI to check on the injured wrist and hopes to get good news. He says he will play the French Open, even if he has to use a one-handed backhand.:eek:

It's better than not playing at all. :)

:bounce: Good luck Mardy. :p

Well I think you will all find he has done that before...

it depends i'd rather if he's injured he skips it and concentrates on getting back to full fitness for the grass courts than makes himself worse, i know theres points and i do want him to get the points but i think grass is a better surface for him and his lovely backhand!

Well I think you will all find he has done that before...what? Played with a 1-handed BH???? his best groundstroke is for sure his backhand. He's not a top 100 player without it IMO. I admire that he wants to play RG esp considering how few matches he's got on clay, but I think there's no way he will do well there without a 2-hander. I am inclined to agree that he is better off focusing on grass season - especially b/c of his finalist points from Halle

Maybe his one-handed backhand is amazing, and no one knows it
Didn't one of Pete Sampra's coaches make him switch from two to one? And Pete did great :)

I thought he played before with a 1 hander due to injury, but maybe I'm not right either.

I thought he played before with a 1 hander due to injury, but maybe I'm not right either.Oh, I'm sure that's possible, but he's not going to be successful with it. That's true, surfpinky, but Pete didn't win things because of his BH whereas it's one of Mardy's best weapons :awww:

Yeah, especially on clay. :(

But if he loses early at RG (which not a soul would be suprised about), he'll still have some good prep time for the grass.

He'd have to draw Paradorn or Karlovic to win a match at RG.

 i love the mardy threads, the fish forum is fun, love the title. i hope his wrist is ok and he plays. will flake be playing doubles at all?

Deboogle!.

oooooooh I hope sooooooo

But it would depend on Mardy's wrist I suppose.

I thought he played before with a 1 hander due to injury, but maybe I'm not right either.

He did play before with a single handed backhand because of injury....but I do agree that he is better off waiting for the grass court season to begin...however, if you are a player then you want to play...and if that means doing it anyway you know how...then I guess you will do it. I just hope he gets back to full fitness again very soon...and I do agree..he has a glorious double handed backhand ;)

Didn't one of Pete Sampra's coaches make him switch from two to one? And Pete did great :)

Pete switched when he was 15 and did dismally for a year. I don't think Mardy's switch would be permanent, rather something that he just has in his arsenal for emergencies. Steffi Graf could actually hit a nice top spin backhand, but you never saw it in matches, she always stuck with her slice.

aceit
05-17-2005, 01:50 AM
Yeah there's absolutly no way he would switch. It's just for now so he can play. :)

still if he's not fit i'd rather he didn't play!

I agree, but I'm saying if he is playing, atleast he can actually hit the ball with a one handed BH and make the best of the bad situation.

I can't wait to see who he draws... :scared:

Not sure if he can play with a one-handed backhand. Seems like its the same situation like last year, where he got injured during the clay court season.

Good news, according to his site, he got good news from Monday's MRI and started using his left hand today. 2-handed BH! :yeah:

Now get your cute self to Paris.

Poor Mardy. Malisse in the first round, who because of his suspension lacks match play just as much as Mardy does. But.... Nadal in the 2nd round. Poor Mardy. OK This time, it won't be his fault when he loses.

05-20-2005, 01:11 PM
well i guess the only good thing is that i will finally be able to see a Mardy match because we get Belgium channels here:)

But it's still a sucky draw:(

The draws don't like Mardy
Maybe in a previous life he spat in one of those sacred draw bowls

uh.....i cant imagine Mardy playing against Nadal on the clay...
poor Mardy....damn the bad draw!
however, win the 1st round is the recent thing...
i cant wait to watch the match

Deboogle!.
05-23-2005, 11:36 AM
Well we won't have to worry about Mardy playing nadal on the clay. :o

2-6 1-6 1-6 in barely over 70 minutes. Xavier is better on clay, sure, but geez.

stats here, but they might make you want to hurl your breakfast.

Mardy:sad: If he was not 100% he shouldn't have played! Based on pics from Associated Press, he fell at one point, so hopefully that pic was also from the same time and his wrist is ok but he just happened to fall.

 Thanks for the link to the picture. Are there anymore?

Those stats are just...horrible. I hope he's ok and will be alright for the grass season.

Oh Mardy. Sometimes I just have to wonder what he's thinking at times.

But oh well - this just gives him more time for the wrist to fully heal up and time to use on the grass courts so he can try to get a jump start on all of the other players. ;)
