I don't know who's on the Swedish team, but it seems like a good draw, compared to how it could be. Anybody know where this is played? It is on clay, right ? It wouldn't make sence to have a non-claycourt tournie right before the french? Would it?

too sad, another poor match of Kiwi
He lost to Thomas Johansson 4-6 2-6

Instead of putting pressure on Johansson, he let Johansson play too much. It was not often enough that Kiwi controlled the points. Also most shots before coming to the net were not good enough and not with sufficient determination, too many easy passes for Johansson.

I hope he finds his confidence for better shots soon. That's not a surface specific thing. I think he would have lost to Johansson today on any other underground too.

The US Open match should have been reason enough to be confident. I fear Kühnen will take him out for the next game. There are really at least 5 matches each year where it looks like Kiefer has no talent, can't hit winners from the baseline, makes many horrible unforced errors... I just hope he won't play in the final, if it comes to a match against Argentina.

At least Germany still won thanks to Haas and Waske and they can keep up the hopes to beat Spain... but after today, I don't have much confidence they will beat Robredo or Ferrer in their singles matches :(

Would require a drastic improvement of Haas or Kiwi... (or somebody else)

Kiwi is not playing today against Spain.... he is replaced by Florian Mayer

I think it's better to give somebody else a try against Coria. Mayer earned this win against Spain and Mayer is still free of any negative history with Coria on claycourt (he has beaten him already, but on grass) and Kiwi lost five matches in a row to Coria now, harldy scoring any games in these meetings.

Mayer won on Friday, but he wasn't running the best form into this match. But still a fair choice because Kiwi couldn't beat Coria since long time.

Do you think Kiwi is being left out because of his stiff neck? Or truly because of what Florian did today?

This must be tough for him to not get to play in the Final

I think for Kühnen this win of Mayer today was good enough, no matter how good or bad Kiwi's neck is (we don't know really how much we can read into that neck problem, do we?). He was glad about the way Florian played at the end and said that Ferrer is no crap on clay and that he was running some good form this season so far. Florian's level was not terrific in this match, but somehow it was impressive and well, the match seemed totally out of reach as he was down a set and down all these breaks again and again and every time he broke Ferrer back and won the 2nd set. Sure, Ferrer contributed to his loss with a some errors he didn't made in the first set and while Mayer started playing better, Ferrer's game was going downwards.

At the end I really think it's fair choice. Mayer won today against Ferrer, Kiwi couldn't beat ToJo earlier this week and lost five matches in a row to Coria hardly winning any games.

I agree with everything you said (even questioning the neck ;) )
