Cristophe ROCHUS defeated GAUDIO. 2-6 7-5 6-3willie 05-12-2005, 07:59 PM Incredible  but with gaudio everything can happen  Rogiman 05-12-2005, 08:00 PM Gaston tank-you-very-much Gaudio  Bart. 05-12-2005, 08:02 PM Well done Christophe! :yeah: Deboogle!. 05-12-2005, 08:02 PM Unbelievable match. Christophe started out so badly, it was like 0-4 within 10 or 15 minutes, then he just turned it around. He outsmarted and out-hit Gaston. Just GREAT fighting. You could almost see his nerves and he fought through it and hit great shots when he needed to and just drove Gaston nuts. Just great!!!!!!!!!!! tennischick 05-12-2005, 08:02 PM  i didn't watch this match bec i was studying but also bec i expected Gaudio to just thrash him 6-0 6-1. thank goodness for repeats -- i'm gonna watch this match later. congrats to the short guy ;) savesthedizzle 05-12-2005, 08:03 PM Christophe played very well... Gaudio was very frustrated throughout the match. Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:03 PM Is he short too? joske 05-12-2005, 08:03 PM  shocked but happy for Christophe too :yeah: bien joué C. not as short as Oli no :) joeb_uk 05-12-2005, 08:05 PM Sky sports decided to cut the interactive service, dump us with a replay of henman whilst gaudio was live! come on, no matter who is playing - please play live tennis when its on ;) DanEd 05-12-2005, 08:05 PM gaudio is a very much better claycourter player than rochus. it is clear rochus played well and solid but gaston shouldve won. he wasted the chance of his life to reach hs first master series final. Deboogle!. 05-12-2005, 08:05 PM he's about 5'7, Ryan. Taller than Ollie but similar playing style and heart and fight. TC, definitely catch the repeat, it was a LOT of fun. oneandonlyhsn 05-12-2005, 08:06 PM I am starting to doubt if Gaudio is going to be a serious contender this year at RG. He hasn't played very well this year, but then again its Gaudio he may surprise everyone and do very well. lucashg 05-12-2005, 08:06 PM Unbelievable match. So true, I only watched the third set and could see that he was fighting for every point. Almost all games went to deuce and he stepped up at the most important ones (even if he screwed some of them) and deservedly won. I really liked the way he played - his dropshots and volleys were amazing! Congrats, Cristophe! I hope he defeats Chela. Julio1974 05-12-2005, 08:06 PM Gaudio's performance in Montecarlo, Rome and Hamburg was extremely dissapointing, to say the least. Jorge 05-12-2005, 08:06 PM Chris! I thought you would lose after the 1st set! what a comeback! :bounce: Rogiman 05-12-2005, 08:07 PM I am starting to doubt if Gaudio is going to be a serious contender this year at RG. He's not, stop doubting. Deboogle!. 05-12-2005, 08:08 PM his dropshots and volleys were amazing! No kidding! he was something like 34 of 41 at net!! tennischick 05-12-2005, 08:09 PM Is he short too? i take it you are as well ;) lucashg 05-12-2005, 08:10 PM gaudio is a very much better claycourter player than rochus. it is clear rochus played well and solid but gaston shouldve won. he wasted the chance of his life to reach hs first master series final. It's true that Gaudio is better, but Rochus outplayed him from what I've seen. Ok, this is no surprise as we're talking about Gaudio and if he loses his mind, then his game is off forever, but will he ever cut the crap? I don't know why he is so pissed at himself all the time. It's annoying and completely unfortunate for him. I've heard he was worse in the past and that must be true 'cos sometimes I can see he's trying to relax. That's what he should do. Play relaxed and calm, not getting mat at himself 'cos that's not gonna help. Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:10 PM omg...I know you are loving the music right now Deb. They play the same music everytime. Lets take a look back at some of the brighter moments in this match...*baaweett* *bawaw* *doot doot* *tucka tucka tucka* *bawwweet* *bawaw*...*bumm* *bumm* bumm*...*doot doot*...*bawaw*...*tucka tucka tucka* Thats the cheesy ATP/TTC music they play after a match. Jinx 05-12-2005, 08:11 PM UUUu.....thats so bad!!!!!    so, gaston is loosing everything lately...lets no get to dissapointed, becasue maybe he will kicks some asses in Rolland Garros!!!!!    jajaajajajajaajajajajaj (thats how you laugh, where i live) Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:11 PM i take it you are as well ;) Well, what counts is that there is no shortage of my love for you. Fergie 05-12-2005, 08:12 PM Gaston  tennischick 05-12-2005, 08:12 PM Well, what counts is that there is no shortage of my love for you. i'm all for the loving as long as you have no significant shortcomings :p Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:16 PM i'm all for the loving as long as you have no significant shortcomings :p We all have shortcomings the trick is to keep those from making you come up short. Denaon 05-12-2005, 08:18 PM This is due to GSS, Gabriela Sabatini Syndrome, get used to it! BelgianWaffle 05-12-2005, 08:19 PM  christophe  Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:20 PM The grude = bad movie...get used to it. This man will eventually become short of patience if you keep messing up with his chick! Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:20 PM This man will eventually become short of patience if you keep messing up with his chick! Oh Short up! ;) Rogiman 05-12-2005, 08:22 PM Oh Short up! ;) Shall we take off our shorts to prove which is bigger? :p tennischick 05-12-2005, 08:22 PM i see that i will shortly have to part a fight  Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:24 PM Shall we take off our shorts to prove which is bigger? :p I concede. I have a shortage of pride and you of shame. :o Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:24 PM i see that i will shortly have to part a fight  I am sure we can find another way to short this mess out. :) Corey Feldman 05-12-2005, 08:25 PM Another example today of why Gaudio is the fluke French open champion :o tennischick 05-12-2005, 08:25 PM I concede. I have a shortage of pride and you of shame. :o  didn't you mean to say shortage :p Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:26 PM O short! Rogiman 05-12-2005, 08:26 PM I concede. I have a shortage of pride and you of shame. :o This time you fell short ;) Fumus 05-12-2005, 08:27 PM Well, what can I can say...I can't out short you! Rogiman 05-12-2005, 08:29 PM Well, what can I can say...I can't out short you! I'll make it short: Stay away from my chick! joske 05-12-2005, 08:31 PM what short temper, Rogiman.... :p robinhood 05-12-2005, 08:34 PM Gaston. Give me my 20 bucks back!! vincayou 05-12-2005, 08:35 PM He should form a WTF duo with Marat. mitalidas 05-12-2005, 08:37 PM Gaudio's performance in Montecarlo, Rome and Hamburg was extremely dissapointing, to say the least. that was last year too and see what he pulled off at the big RG jasmine(usa) 05-12-2005, 08:42 PM This is due to GSS, Gabriela Sabatini Syndrome, get used to it!  You are so true! Thanks for the laugh! Levo. 05-12-2005, 08:50 PM w00t. vCash for me :) *julie* 05-12-2005, 08:53 PM OMG! Gaston!!! And now, with Rochus we have 3 qualifiers in the quarters! And what did you do JC? It could have been 4 Q in quarters ! Jim Jones 05-12-2005, 09:05 PM hey I'm exactly the same height as Christophe (1.70) and I don't call that short. Anyway, for all you teens out there, if you want to be tall them eat well. If only I knew (sigh). Sjengster 05-12-2005, 09:53 PM Do you think he was at all motivated by thoughts of revenge for little brother? Because Gaudio played Olivier in the quarters here two years ago and destroyed him 1 and 1... with that result in mind I was fairly confident he would come through this match, but then you should never take any Gaudio victory for granted. It sounds as though Rochus played one of the matches of his life, and all credit to him for taking out Ljubicic and Gaudio back-to-back. This is going to produce a completely new and unexpected TMS finalist from the bottom half: LOL, what chance a Rochus-Seppi semi? Geniey2g 05-12-2005, 10:09 PM Gaston tank-you-very-much Gaudio  hahaha He's dreaming if he believes he's got a hope of defending his RG title... JuanRodriguez 05-12-2005, 10:37 PM Wow Christophe :yeah: This is just awesome! Christophe is doing pretty great this year... and now he even has a realistic chance to make it to the final. Way to go! :D HybridTheory 05-12-2005, 10:48 PM NOOOOOOOO I lost all my vCash  :p star 05-13-2005, 12:32 AM :woohoo: C.Rochus. I would have rather it had been O.Rochus, but I'll take the bro. :) TennisLurker 05-13-2005, 12:39 AM ha Cristophe, the Rochus no one likes Smankyou 05-13-2005, 01:13 AM Let it be known that pages 2 and 3 of this thread were very entertaining. Smankyou 05-13-2005, 01:24 AM Let it be known that I can't spell and had to edit the above message. Kristen 05-13-2005, 02:29 AM NOOOOOOOO I lost all my vCash  :p DITTO! If he somehow comes to aus for DC I'll be pissed. Well, hopefully I'll be over it by then :p I'm sure there are more important things to worry about. Who would've thought Christophe would win a match  Billabong 05-13-2005, 03:21 AM  congrats Christophe:yeah: azza 05-13-2005, 04:18 AM Wow well done Christoph :) Federerhingis 05-13-2005, 05:25 AM Do you think he was at all motivated by thoughts of revenge for little brother? This is going to produce a completely new and unexpected TMS finalist from the bottom half: LOL, what chance a Rochus-Seppi semi? I know these Rochus brothers are on a tear, Didnt Olivier upset Safin not too long ago? So the Rochus brothers are from french speaking Belgium Waloon? Well obviously the names are very french, is Malisse from flemish Belgium or waloon? Howerver, I do believe when he got caught arguing with the umpire at the Nasdaq open he was yelling in flemish wasnt he. A bit off topic by the way. Nonetheless Olivier seems to be more of the upset veteran than his brother. Safin always seems to be troubled by his scrappy and tenacious game. tennischick 05-13-2005, 07:48 AM i just finished watching this match. the commentator said that Gaudio's ego interfered with his winning this match. perhaps. by the time he got it in check and realized that he was about to be crushed, it was too late. Christophe played within himself, moved like a panther, and was just amazing. ;) Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 08:17 AM Well Gaston started well and I thought this could be a good performance, but Rochus was nervous and stepped up the level of his game at the start of the 2nd set and Gaston didn't vary his play enough at all. As Rochus was getting more confident Gaston was playing some neither tennis, it was neither here nor there. One thing that was very noticeable when Gaston had a passing shot oportunity for most of the time he tried for an outright winner, instead of varying it and especially on the backhand he was going down the line all the time and Rochus was camped there and just hitting little drop volleys that were even more effective as for Gaston's court positioning. His mood well it wasn't the best, but that's him. It was a big opportunity lost, but the fact that Rochus was the better player on the day, he outhought, outmanouevered and outplayed Gaudio and deserved his win. Adman 05-13-2005, 08:28 AM When Gaudio's wearing his unlucky blue sock he is always going to lose!! iliketennis 05-13-2005, 08:44 AM A well deserved rest for Gaston after so many tournaments. He did well anyway :D Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 08:45 AM A well deserved rest for Gaston after so many tournaments. He did well anyway :D If you think losing a match when in control is doing well then all the power to you. iliketennis 05-13-2005, 09:02 AM If you think losing a match when in control is doing well then all the power to you. No, but I do think that playing 4 consecutive tournaments, reaching 2 QF's, winning a title and winning two matches at the other tournament is :p Deivid23 05-13-2005, 09:05 AM It will be funny when Gastón wins some matches in Paris.... Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 09:07 AM No, but I do think that playing 4 consecutive tournaments, reaching 2 QF's, winning a title and winning two matches at the other tournament is :p He has played 4 consecutive tournaments so what. I mean the losses are what has to be looked at and not just the wins, but actually this was not a good performance though better than Rome. Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 09:08 AM It will be funny when Gastón wins some matches in Paris.... It'll be forgotten about and imagine if he won it again, there'll be plenty of excuses for that as well. Deivid23 05-13-2005, 09:09 AM It'll be forgotten about and imagine if he won it again, there'll be plenty of excuses for that as well. One thing I have clear in my mind about that. Despite these losses I won´t be tempted to put my money against him in Paris. I have too much respect for him and I would be surprised if he doesn´t do well there. Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 09:17 AM One thing I have clear in my mind about that. Despite these losses I won´t be tempted to put my money against him in Paris. I have too much respect for him and I would be surprised if he doesn´t do well there. Look at all the people that wrote of Costa in 03, and look what a top performance he pulled off there. To me it's not important as to whether he defends his title or not. Gaudio said it himself last year and this makes sense he is the Valencia while guys like Federer, Coria, Guga for example are Barcelona and Real Madrid. iliketennis 05-13-2005, 09:25 AM If Gaston reaches the QFs at RG, I will be happy. If he doesn't, so what  This is his best start to a season so far in his career. binkygirl 05-13-2005, 09:25 AM This is the last time I bet on Gaudio. What the hell is wrong with him? Isn't Rochus like 5'3 or something? He lost to a midget! Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 09:28 AM This is the last time I bet on Gaudio. What the hell is wrong with him? Isn't Rochus like 5'3 or something? He lost to a midget! Thanks Gaston this loss has just made me feel better. Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 09:29 AM If Gaston reaches the QFs at RG, I will be happy. If he doesn't, so what  This is his best start to a season so far in his career. Yes, he has won 3 lower level titles albeit Buenos Aires was a good standard event, he hasn't bought it often enough at the 3 TMS events where he has to raise the standard of his game. Once he starts losing consistently will you still support him? iliketennis 05-13-2005, 09:30 AM This is the last time I bet on Gaudio. What the hell is wrong with him? Isn't Rochus like 5'3 or something? He lost to a midget! Have your favourite players lost to Guillermo Coria? Size ain't got nothing to do with it. Skills compensate for size ClaycourtaZzZz. 05-13-2005, 09:31 AM I'm sad! He should have won very easy!! But that's Gaston.... When will he play in Düsseldorf? JMG 05-13-2005, 10:13 AM I didn't like it to see Gaston 2 meters behind the baseline so often. The funniest thing was probably when the distance between Gaston & his coach was about 1 meter and he spoke to him so that is was difficult to overlook. Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 10:15 AM I didn't like it to see Gaston 2 meters behind the baseline so often. The funniest thing was probably when the distance between Gaston & his coach was about 1 meter and he spoke to him so blatantly. Franco's reactions are always funny when Gaston isn't playing to his abilities. I don't have a problem with that normally except if it doesn't work then try and adapt. joeb_uk 05-13-2005, 10:19 AM Guess thats how it goes :( he crushed rochus in two easy sets back in monte carlo a few weeks ago, and now a loss :( Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 10:26 AM Guess thats how it goes :( he crushed rochus in two easy sets back in monte carlo a few weeks ago, and now a loss :( As I said an opportunity lost in a big way that was the better section of the draw, but it's spilt milk now onto the WTC and then RG. joeb_uk 05-13-2005, 10:31 AM Do you think wtc is a good idea? i cant see why he is bothering with it myself. Action Jackson 05-13-2005, 10:34 AM Do you think wtc is a good idea? i cant see why he is bothering with it myself. I'll do it here, but I'll discuss it in the Gaudio forum at greater length. This is exactly the same path that they did last year and it was actually WTC where he got some of his confidence back and got over his mental breakdown vs Federer in Hamburg. He always likes playing for Argentina, it's 3 matches at worst in the week, so I don't have a problem with it. The Nils 05-13-2005, 12:51 PM Rochus played so well, he tried to go for the shots and was the player who was more active. He drove Gaudio crazy with his drop shots. I was there live and and the crowd really cheered Christophe. Deservedly. binkygirl 05-14-2005, 02:04 AM Sorry, its Olivier Rochus who is a petite 5'5. Christophe is 5'7. | |
