Unbelievable match. Christophe started out so badly, it was like 0-4 within 10 or 15 minutes, then he just turned it around. He outsmarted and out-hit Gaston. Just GREAT fighting. You could almost see his nerves and he fought through it and hit great shots when he needed to and just drove Gaston nuts. Just great!!!!!!!!!!!

So true, I only watched the third set and could see that he was fighting for every point. Almost all games went to deuce and he stepped up at the most important ones (even if he screwed some of them) and deservedly won.

I really liked the way he played - his dropshots and volleys were amazing! Congrats, Cristophe! I hope he defeats Chela.

It's true that Gaudio is better, but Rochus outplayed him from what I've seen. Ok, this is no surprise as we're talking about Gaudio and if he loses his mind, then his game is off forever, but will he ever cut the crap?

I don't know why he is so pissed at himself all the time. It's annoying and completely unfortunate for him. I've heard he was worse in the past and that must be true 'cos sometimes I can see he's trying to relax. That's what he should do. Play relaxed and calm, not getting mat at himself 'cos that's not gonna help.

It sounds as though Rochus played one of the matches of his life, and all credit to him for taking out Ljubicic and Gaudio back-to-back. This is going to produce a completely new and unexpected TMS finalist from the bottom half: LOL, what chance a Rochus-Seppi semi?

I know these Rochus brothers are on a tear, Didnt Olivier upset Safin not too long ago? So the Rochus brothers are from french speaking Belgium Waloon? Nonetheless Olivier seems to be more of the upset veteran than his brother. Safin always seems to be troubled by his scrappy and tenacious game.

by the time he got it in check and realized that he was about to be crushed, it was too late. Christophe played within himself, moved like a panther, and was just amazing. ;)

Well Gaston started well and I thought this could be a good performance, but Rochus was nervous and stepped up the level of his game at the start of the 2nd set and Gaston didn't vary his play enough at all. As Rochus was getting more confident Gaston was playing some neither tennis, it was neither here nor there.

One thing that was very noticeable when Gaston had a passing shot oportunity for most of the time he tried for an outright winner, instead of varying it and especially on the backhand he was going down the line all the time and Rochus was camped there and just hitting little drop volleys that were even more effective as for Gaston's court positioning.

His mood well it wasn't the best, but that's him. It was a big opportunity lost, but the fact that Rochus was the better player on the day, he outhought, outmanouevered and outplayed Gaudio and deserved his win.

When Gaudio's wearing his unlucky blue sock he is always going to lose!!

One thing I have clear in my mind about that. Despite these losses I won´t be tempted to put my money against him in Paris. I have too much respect for him and I would be surprised if he doesn´t do well there.

Look at all the people that wrote of Costa in 03, and look what a top performance he pulled off there. To me it's not important as to whether he defends his title or not. Gaudio said it himself last year and this makes sense he is the Valencia while guys like Federer, Coria, Guga for example are Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Yes, he has won 3 lower level titles albeit Buenos Aires was a good standard event, he hasn't bought it often enough at the 3 TMS events where he has to raise the standard of his game.

Franco's reactions are always funny when Gaston isn't playing to his abilities.

I don't have a problem with that normally except if it doesn't work then try and adapt.

As I said an opportunity lost in a big way that was the better section of the draw, but it's spilt milk now onto the WTC and then RG.

This is exactly the same path that they did last year and it was actually WTC where he got some of his confidence back and got over his mental breakdown vs Federer in Hamburg. He always likes playing for Argentina, it's 3 matches at worst in the week, so I don't have a problem with it.

Rochus played so well, he tried to go for the shots and was the player who was more active. He drove Gaudio crazy with his drop shots. I was there live and and the crowd really cheered Christophe. Deservedly.

Sorry, its Olivier Rochus who is a petite 5'5. Christophe is 5'7.
