I didn't follow the pack mate ;) As long as he keeps serving well he can expect to win 7/6 7/6. I admit, if his serving is off then Verdasco will win. The surface suits the big servers and volleyers more than other clay surfaces...you can see that for yourself. Step, Henman, Roddick and Ljubicic make up a quarter of the remaining draw.

Well Ljubo won't be standing there saying Andre I want your autograph during the match like Gasquet was.

No shit Rome has been fast for years, that's a given. When you have an Agassi/Haas final on clay at a TMS event, that should give enough clues really.

Keep it up as this is childs play as none of these guys are going to be factors when the real stuff comes along especially the new 4 favourites.

If he gets enough balls back then he'll win as the Duck can't be that disciplined for ever and also once the serve starts coming back and he loses points, lets see the composure then.

Yeah I agree on that point...who wouldn't? That is a given

But I, like many, are acting on the assumption that he will serve just as well as he has the last few days here. In which case, there won't be huge number of balls coming back for him to fluff.

Also, where has Verdasco threatened to break through this year? I can't remember any instance. He is playing a player that is in-form - Roddick is tough and when he is trying to make a breakthrough in these important events, that makes the task tougher still.

That's the French Open - the surface is much slower as you well know and Andy had very limited clay match practice last year. Beating Todd Martin in round 1 was hardly a major scalp.

Deivid23

Roddick on Verdasco:

"He's nasty. Throwing another Spaniard at me. You know, we had a tough match in Indian Wells, and he was getting the better of me in Miami before I had to stop. So, you know, it's going to be a tough one. I'm going to have to keep my level up. Not really. I mean, I think he's a very, very good young player, you know. The only thing missing is a little bit of consistency with him in his results. You know, but as far as just on paper, you know, forehands and backhands, I mean, he's very, very good."

One performance shouldn't be overrated in the overall context of things, it was a good performance his best ever in Europe on clay, but that was then.

GWH Andre outplayed Richard. Give him credit. Richard doesn't do himself any favors by standing so far back. I knew he would lose base on that fact alone. Only the most experience clay players can do that and survive against Andre. Verdasco will win not because of defense but because he is just offensive on clay too. I say straight set win for him.

There is enough collective love of Agassi around the world, to feed the worlds population 15 000x over, it doesn't need me to give him credit. Gasquet was too much in awe to do anything, oh Mr Agassi I can't beat you cause you are my idol.

Actually Federer is his idol. :rolls: He stood too far back and put himself on the defense way too much. That shit will only work if you are playing against a clay courter but when playing against someone like Andre who can turn the clay courts into hardcourts on a nice sunny day, that is not a good idea.

I am sure his confidence gave out because of this and then he started to fall in love with Andre. The positioning on the court was the start of that snowball effect.

Well I am still a bit gutted when I had Dynamo Kyiv to win the Champs League and the fools blew the semi final.

At the same time I remember when Corretja was good when he was playing Gaudio that was an easy bet and when Pavel plays Behrend, business has to be done.

One has been playing the game since 1986.

Just to make this very clear to you. I don't care who you have put your money on at all, but with that logic you would bet on Agassi all the time on clay then? Even against guys who are better on him on this surface, note this doesn't say that Ljubo is better on this surface.

Sure is Ljubicic much better than Kiefer on clay, but just growing up somewhere doesn't mean much. Since when has anything been 100 per cent, well it's possible to play outdoors all year in Germany as you might have guessed, then again some styles of games are suited to the other surfaces hence indoor players.

The Cro guys can play on all surfaces at least be respectable on all of them.

not so long ago I loathed Lleyton, but when I thought about it I realised I simply disliked him for the way he behaves on the court - somewhat parallel to the way an actor carries themselves in a film. Granted he comes across as being irritable and miseducated, but when you consider the fact that he competes with and enjoys success against players with far more talent than he has, you can't do anything but admire the fire in his heart.

He has poor groundstrokes and a crappy serve, yet he can still make slam finals - props to him :).
