Patience will play in the Rome challenger final at 13cet. He will play two matches tomorrow?

Patience will play in the Rome challenger final at 13cet. He will play two matches tomorrow?I don't have an inside information about what he will do, but my understanding of the ATP rulebook is that he is allowed to play both matches without penalty as long as he gets to the AMS Rome qualifying match on time. Considering both tournaments are in the same city, it's logistically possible to do so & that may be why he didn't withdraw from AMS Rome qualifying. (That's also probably why the qualifying match was scheduled for the last time slot of the day.)

2005 ATP Official Rulebook:6.07 ONE TOURNAMENT PER WEEK AND EXCEPTION
B. Exception:
A player who has lost in a Tournament may enter the qualifying for a Tournament scheduled for the next week. The Supervisor may authorize a player who is still competing in the main draw of a Tournament in singles and/or doubles to enter the qualifying for the next week's ATP and Challenger Series Tournaments provided that no special scheduling by either Tournament shall be required. In the event of a conflict, he shall be defaulted from such qualifying so as to compete in the singles and/or doubles of the main draw Tournament in which he is competing. In addition, if the player does not appear for play as scheduled, there shall be an automatic fine. Since it's a final, whether he wins or loses the challenger match isn't relevent (since he will no longer be competing there either way).

Do you know the distance between the two events?

awww hope he can play both...but i think he'll have to end up sacrificing one...if he does the Roma qualies, I just hope he ends up getting into the main draw at the end of it all!!!

Patience should have no trouble... the challenger final is at 1PM, the ATP qualifier no earlier than 6PM... even if the former match and ceremony take 4 hours, he can make it...

That reminds me an incident several years ago, that a player played in Eastbourne and Wimby qualifying on the same day...

http://www.telecomitaliamasters.it/pop_news_center.asp?IDNews=830/04/2005 18:30 - ITALIANS STRUGGLE IN QUALIFIERS

The home crowd turned out in force under brilliant sunshine on the first day of the Rome Masters qualifying event but there was little for them to cheer about on the courts themselves. Local heroes Daniele Bracciali, Fabio Fognini (pictured) and Federico Luzzi all lost despite the encouragement of the packed stands.

Luzzi squandered chances in the first set, including a set point, before falling to Argentina's Juan Monaco. A contested line call seemed to break Luzzi's concetration, and he did not recover.

Bracciali was on a high after helping Italy defeat Marocco but could not capitalize on his win, going down 62 62 to Peter Wessels. Fognini fought bravely in the first set againt Spain's Albert Montanes before collapsing and losing 76 60.http://www.telecomitaliamasters.it/pop_news_center.asp?IDNews=730/04/2005 18:13 - SPANISH PLAYERS THROUGH IN QUALIFYING EVENT

Spanish players Ventura, Almagro and Martin progressed through the qualifaction event on Saturday, alongside Romania's Hanescu, Sweden's Bjorkman, Switzerland's Wawrinka and Richard Gasquet of France. Gasquet, number one seed in the qualifying event, eliminated another Spaniard, David Sanchez, in a tightly contested match, 75 76 (6).
