No Luzzi is a bad choice

Have they shunned JC? That is not good for him....

I can't see him getting a WC for Hamburg either. German tennis is not doing so well at the moment and they'll probably want to give WC to their own players...quite who I don't know though. Burgsmuller, Kohlschreiber, Zverev?

Ferrero should be in directly.

Surely they would have given Ferrero a WC if he had requested it ?

I saw on the steveg forum that he's not.... not even on the qualifying list

Ferrero should be in directly.

How exactly? He wasn't ranked high enough, he's not on the qually list and hasn't got a wildcard, there's no special exempt afaik. He might be on the alternate list but probably too far down to make the draw. Is there another way of getting in?

It looks like it's a week off for Ferrero then doesn't it? If he wins Estoril, he'd be ranked somewhere in the 40s or 30s wouldn't he?

Got to love the organisation thinking of Sanguinetti over Ferrero, got to love that choice.

It does rather look like a week off, and perhaps he could do with it. Folks at SteveG were expecting him to get a wildcard, but I can't say I'm terribly surprised since the Italians and Germans tend to go for home-grown players as wc.

Still, if he does really well in Estoril it should be enough for an RG seed. Just as well Baggy didn't beat him the other day I suppose.

Ferrero should get a WC to those TMS events, but hey not everyone can think clearly can they? It will almost be like the possibility of Robredo having to qualify for Estoril this week.

:haha:

JC's on the qualifying list for Hamburg though, so he could be the qualifer who wins it... (I'm optimistic! at least i can be... before I see the draw)

Ferrero is 42 in ATP Entry System. There is 52 direct entries, there are not more than 10 protected players. He has to be directly in. :)

he wasn't 42 six weeks ago though!

LOL @ not giving Ferrero a wildcard. He WON Rome a few years ago. That's just pathetic.

Potito :yeah:

Davide  *Must be sentimental reasons*

Alessio Di Mauro *Makes sense because I saw his results and he's been very impressive lately and got to 100 this week.*

He may not have asked for a WC. He may need to rest for Hamburg & Paris. He said he was very tired this wk. Probably decided to play Portugal 'cuz he wasn't sure if he could get into Rome...Who knows...

Dirk

How could they deny a former champion a WC? :o

JC did ask for a wildcard....

Snubbed Ferrero considers return to qualifying

ESTORIL, April 29 (Reuters) - Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero may have to take part in qualifying for an ATP tour event for the first time since 1999 as part of his build-up for the French Open.

After losing a tight three-setter to top seed Carlos Moya in the second round of the Estoril Open claycourt event, Ferrero said qualifying might be his only option to get some match practice before Paris next month.

The 2003 Roland Garros winner was denied a wildcard for the Masters series in Rome next week and is still waiting to hear after applying for the Hamburg Masters the week after.

"I definitely won't play in Rome and if I want to play in Hamburg, maybe I will have to do qualifying," the Spaniard said aft,er losing to Moya. "I thought they were going to give me wildcards in both tournaments but they didn't.

"For sure it's not good for me to be missing two Masters tournaments but I haven't played qualifying for a long time. I don't know yet what I'm going to do."

After a brilliant 2003 in which he became world number one and won the French Open as well as reaching the US Open final, Ferrero suffered from injury and illness in 2004.

He dropped out of the top 30 for the first time in five years and has spent 2005 trying to regain his form.

This month he reached the Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals and lost in the Barcelona final to man-of-the-moment Rafael Nadal last week.

I can imagine that many Italian fans want to see Sanguinetti & Luzzi more than Ferrero.

i would rather see ferrero in umag, than karanušić, krajan, or karlović
but if they wanted luzzi, they got him :retard:
