Nadal is red hot at the moment. He's been dropping only a few games a match in this tourney. Gaston just wasn't good enough.

I am really suprised that Gaston didn't put up more of a fight but he is playing Nadal. Who now has a clear run at this title with Federer out!!

Gaston :help:
Nadal is really on fire though. No one can get more than a few games off him. It reminds me of when Coria was doing this in the clay tournaments after Wimby in 2003.

I'm not sure why people are surprised by this, just because Gaston won their previous matches doesn't mean he's the better player.

Nadal has eclipsed him now, and I expected a relatively easy win, such as this.

Surprising that Gaudio didnt put up a fight when he's been in such good form and he leads Nadal 3-0, all easy wins on clay.

Nadal's absolutely overrated. Gaston lost the match, he gave up too soon. And I am surprised because I've been there the last time they played and Rafael has not the game to win a concentrated Gaudio.

Yes, tanks are nothing new from Gaudio, but against someone whom you've never lost to before... poor, very poor. I will say, though, that Nadal will not "eclipse" Gaudio until he matches Gaudio's achievement at RG.

:o Gaston.
He must have been having one bad day to loose with this kind of scoreline. Then again, when Nadal is on his game I don't think there are many who can beat him (on clay). Lately Nadal = untouchable
The way Nadal is playing right now remiinds me of Duck in summer 2003 when he was burning up the US hardcourts.

It's confusing, it's because Monte Carlo was next week this time last year, so Coria's not actually defending the points this week. Next Monday he will have points from two Monte Carlos and will be Top 5 (if he wins tomorrow, that is); then the Monday after that his championship points from last year will come off and Gaudio will finally become no. 5.

I didn't think Gaudio was guaranteed to win, but I did make the mistake of assuming that the match would be competitive. Never jump to conclusions where the Gato is concerned. I'm extremely glad I got to watch a match that most people, including me, predicted would be a one-sided blowout but turned into one of the matches of the year.

Kudos to Nadal, he was the only player on court mentally and the result was a very fair indication.

Got to love Gaston though hitting 37 unforced errors in just over an hour in a tennis match, especially when he doesn't have the high risk Gonzalez game. It happens, there is no point getting agitated about it, sure I'd like the score to have been closer, but it wasn't and he got what he deserved.

We will see.

Gaudio may be a French Open champion, but he won it in a year devoid of serious competition and in which his opponent in the final should have finished him off.

Gaudio is not a bad player, he's a very talented guy, but Nadal is better.

Wow, that was really a very clear scoreline. Didn't expect it that clear. But somehow I think it would have been better for Nadal to win by 7-6 6-4 or something like that because this match will most likely always be remembered by some people as "tank", as "not showing up", as "giving up too easily/early", as a poor match from Gaudio.

Anyway, I don't think it bothers him too much. He's playing another great Masters and already reached the semifinal again.
