Apparently is serious ... they think he has teared his plantar fascia (i think that's the translation) ... if confirmed, he could be out for a while ...

Very bad luck for him

Very serious indeed. On the bottom padding of your foot. My father simply strained this a while back and it was a bitch of an injury, I can't imagine tearing it. I imagine Younes might have torn his.

There will be an interview with Mariano from the hospital with ESPN + (LatinAmerica) after the doctors see what's wrong...

The rumor is that he'll be out for about a month, and he's in doubt for RG.

That sucks for him, he was playing well too. I would think he would be out for quite a while if he it was actually torn.

Plantar fasciitis is the same injury that sidelined Younes el Aynaoui most of 2004. He hasn't been the same since he came back.

How quickly things can change? He was having some good results this season and was playing well enough to beat Ferrer and even challenge Coria. Well, bad luck has no time to come around.

This definitely sounds serious, but hopefully it won't affect him too much, even if it prevents him to play several events, it's better for him to fully recover. Best of luck.

Oh God...

Here they said it was quite serious and he'd have to be out for AT LEAST a month. But I'm pretty sure he'll be out for a lot more

Plantar fasciitis is the same injury that sidelined Younes el Aynaoui most of 2004. He hasn't been the same since he came back.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the tendon that runs down the bottom of your foot. Tearing the tendon it is different, and certainly much more serious than it being inflammed.

It looks like this injury can have different levels of seriousity depending on how quickly the injury is treated.

Mariano had treatment as soon as it happened. (we had live coverage... he did not take one step he didn't have to..)

Maybe because he is such good friends with Younes he knew what it could be...

Lets just hope that what ever the problem is... it goes away very quickly... Mariano obviously has the best people working with him.

To the best people... fix that foot please... its needed...

I'm not sure if I should be shocked or not that this happened to David Ferrer's opponent.

Relax. Coria will only have a match point, but have to retire on it due to excruciating pain from kidney stones.

Very bad luck for him :sad:Sorry to rain on everyone's parade who is hoping for a quick recovery.... but my own sad experience is that one year later (and having tried every treatment, short of surgery) I still have the foot pain and have to limit my activity. Mine did not show tears, I can't imagine how that must feel.

I hope Mariano is one of the fortunate ones, but it is hard to recover quickly and be up to a professional athlete level. During last year's NBA playoffs one of the guys developed plantar fasciitis and they had to continually shoot him up with cortizone to try and contain the swelling and let him still play limited minutes.

The recovery from the surgery takes a while and for a big percentage of people it doesn't solve the problem. I have my fingers crossed for him.

Mariano was running into some very good form and had the clear advantage on Ferrer in this match and then this news has come through. I just hope it's a strain and not a tear, whatever it is.

Get well soon Zab.

This is unfortunate for Mariano. One of my favourite players! Anyways, this comes at a time when he was getting things started for 2005, he was starting to make good results. Wish him well.
