Why didn't he retire at 3-1 or something like that? Retiring at 5-2 is too bizarre for words.

Maybe he placed a huge bet on himself to win... and wanted his money back. :)

Kiefer got his thigh heavily taped at I think it was 3-1 down in the second set. He played on but I was a bit surprised when he suddenly retired, although in fairness he did seem a bit restricted. He played really well I thought in the first set but maybe after the effort that went into that and only to lose the set, he had enough.

He certiainly put a lot more effort in today than Malisse did against Nadal.

It's not hard to give up 4 points if you want to lose that badly. Players retiring with one game to go, without a MAJOR injury, is just classless.

I'm a Kiefer fan, but this is pathetic.

I was under the impression that the trainer told him to stop. I didn't see it or read that in an article, somebody on another board said it

He seemed to be moving quite well for a guy who had a thigh or quad problem.

Maybe he thought he would have done more damage if he'd continued, or didnt feel like tanking the last game. I dont know as i didnt see it.

He retired cause he´s a silly dude many times. He moved ok throughout the whole match.

If there is a quad or thigh strain, then it's very hard to move forward to dropshots and take off quickly, that was something Kiefer didn't have a problem with.
